- Madpony, on 11/06/2009, -0/+62Sure! That desktop has icons all over it!
- meruru, on 11/06/2009, -7/+30Something that was released a few months ago is "iconic"?
- DjOverEZ, on 11/05/2009, -3/+25This guy has an amazing style!
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+15I guarantee this poster is a hipster and already has numerous posts about how great Macs are.
- geoman2k, on 11/06/2009, -2/+14who dugg that down? c'mon that was funny.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -1/+12I hear they added some method whereby you can change the image that appears in the background of your desktop.
- chucknopattern, on 11/06/2009, -0/+10I would like to give my seal of approval to this comment.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+9I had to flush him down the toilet.
- doshindude, on 11/06/2009, -3/+12Why is there no mention of the beta fish wallpaper?? That was the best one!
- ducttape36, on 11/06/2009, -2/+11i guarantee you are wrong.
- Adrianne, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7I saw Chuck Anderson at a conference a few years ago. He's one of those people you just hate for being so talented. He was just out of high school, still living in his small hometown in Illinois and doing big campaigns for Sketchers and some album covers.
Whats great is he gets hired as an artist and not a designer. They commission his work for his style so they just tell him to make a piece and he comes up with whatever he wants. He does these amazing collages and does all the photography and artwork himself. He never uses anything found or purchased.
He had the best story about getting started though. He said he would look for the name of the editors in magazines he liked and then guess their email addresses. He would send a bunch of them trying to guess if they did full names in their emails or first letter and last name until he got one that didn't bounce back. He got connected to a bunch of people that way and got started as an artist.
He was a really nice shy kid when I saw him. I'm glad he's doing so well. - geoken, on 11/06/2009, -1/+8You're probably right. Everyone knows PC's can't do anything but make spreadsheets and file TPS reports.
- DjOverEZ, on 11/06/2009, -1/+8I guarantee you'll die cold and alone.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -1/+7It blows your mind? I would hate to see what happens when something really interesting comes along.
- marson, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5This wallpaper will not be iconic, it will take little time before people like my mother will have their whole desktop covered with useless icons and will have replaced this wallpaper with some wallpaper that doesn't fit the aspect ratio of the screen.
- dobbinmon, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5...he certainly has
- Speedy7, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5Yeah, I like it.
Very Simple. I don't like crammed desktops. - FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5I didn't even notice that stuff until you mentioned it. Sounds like you have some issues if it bothers you.
- DjOverEZ, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5I liked your mom better, but your father still won.
- CLShortFuse, on 11/06/2009, -2/+6I'm still using the default wallpapers for Windows 7 and I've been using Win7 since RC. I might throw in some some of Orioto's work in there
- zantos420, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4I guarantee I'm getting drunk tonight.
- chucknopattern, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3I'm quite proud of this. I really do hope I was the first and only person to ever tie Slayer and Windows together somehow
- PhillyMJS, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3I thought the default login screen background was ugly, and was very glad to find via googling that it's easily changed. Now I have a nice, solid blue that is very pleasing to my eye.
- enantiodromia, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3"he looked at a bunch of others, and made it blue" ?
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3It was a epic mastery of invention to rival all that has gone before.
- Lunarbunny, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I liked the recent Metroid one.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2You don't like teal?
- specialK16, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2The guy's got talent, yeah. But I feel some of his stuff is just WAY overdone.
Better than any ***** I could come up with though. - SreyaNotfilc, on 11/06/2009, -2/+4I like it. Unfortunately not all are thrilled with it. :(
http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/reviews/2009/10/w ... - geoken, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2laser clouds ++
- geoman2k, on 11/06/2009, -4/+5dugg for slayer reference
- rhinitus, on 11/06/2009, -1/+2So?
- Nishnabotna, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1What can I say? She's got good taste.
- Speedy7, on 11/06/2009, -2/+3Looks comforting for the eyes.
Nothing like the rape that SOME windows OS's used to inflict on your eyes... - FritoPendejo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Uhhh I was talking about the wallpaper. That butterfly and sailboat stuff is is barely noticeable. You may not think you're talking about yourself, but you definitely are.
- Charun, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Everyone is gonna think you're a gay.
- disasterface, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1you realize you can change your wallpaper right? hardly a deal-breaker when buying a new computer or OS.
- Romeo81, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I'm with you, man. I ordered Windows 7, installed it for the first time, was thrilled with the initial animation, but when the Login Screen kicked in, I was like "WTF??" My girlfriend saw it and said "I LIIIKE IT! IT'S GIRLY!!"
Thankfully, I found out how to change the Login Screen as well, and changed it to a more neutral background. - enantiodromia, on 11/06/2009, -1/+2betta, not beta
- ampdj89, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1I want my fishy back!
- puzzud, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1Yea, you didn't notice. I wasn't talking about myself. If you had the choice to purchase a laptop that was either navy blue, grey, or pink with white butterflies, which one would you buy? Also, which one would sell the least? Think about it.
- puzzud, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1No I'm not. My color scheme on my desktop is beige, teal, and purple--I don't have a problem with my feminine side or something of that nature.
The images they used are throwbacks to Vista and "aero." They all deal with gentle breezes: butterflies flying in the air, flowers dancing in the wind, tree branches rustling in the wind, and sailboats gliding along the stream.
Are gentle breezes feminine? Perhaps. Are strong gushes of wind masculine (tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, jets)? Did Microsoft run too much with a metaphor? Maybe. Does it matter? The people that won't notice are those who won't know how or bother to change their wallpaper from what's spoon fed to them. - roebeet, on 11/06/2009, -1/+1...back in 1987.
- rhinitus, on 11/06/2009, -3/+3Chuck's work is amazing - "Godlike" is my all-time favorite, but the rest of his stuff blows my mind as well
- DjOverEZ, on 11/06/2009, -2/+2The beta fish was only for the, you guessed it, beta.
- nepidae, on 11/06/2009, -2/+1Not iconic.
- Scott2, on 11/07/2009, -4/+3The Win7 default desktop is one of the most gawdawful things I've ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on.
- Nishnabotna, on 11/06/2009, -6/+4I liked the beta fish better.
- puzzud, on 11/06/2009, -6/+3Yea, I hardly see how well thought out the decision to use this design was.
Butterflies, flowers, happy trees, and sail boats? I wouldn't care if I had these things on my desktop, but I can think of alot of self-conscious people who wouldn't be caught dead with a picture of butterflies for fear or their manliness.
The "bliss" green field design for Windows XP was much more general and acceptable. If they wanted to be all web 2.0 with the graphics, they should have just updated bliss with laser clouds and grass. -
