- VegasKill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33To our fallen metallic comrades...
/salute - Harley77, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31-This wouldn't be the case if it had been private Smith.-
Thanks captain obvious for that insight. - Vexion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20At least when the robot uprising comes, the insurgents will be ready.
- Spetz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19There was a really good article on digg a while back about how the troops in Iraq treat their robots like members of the team and are genuinely sad when they get hurt. I spent 20 min looking but I cant find it.
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17"Poor robot...hahahaha"
At least the troops can still laugh about the situation. Thats probably what's keeping them sane. - uidzero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Tips a (WD) 40 for my fallen robot homie
- Razster, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Since this is a video you should have placed it in the video section, no?
- abdeviation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11INACCURATE. I was imagining a humanoid robot was going to pick up the bomb, put it in its belly and contain the explosion inside him. now that would have been cool.
- SteelChicken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9because you need a girlfriend and some perspective.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11How about a video of what it looks like driving by a buried IED when it goes off:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v5jPtXsO9M
That's quite a lot of earth... - Unlgued, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8In earnest, though: no one likes Smith in the least.
- Static30, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Number 5 no longer alive.
- SteelChicken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7feel free to educate the US Military on how best to safely and cheaply remove IED's
- Static30, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Saving solders lives is one thing I don't mind footing the bill for.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6But... we wouldn't have gotten the inane gizmodo diatribe had it been submitted in the video section.
- digggggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6How many more robot children must lose a parent-o-tron for bush's oil profits?
- KanosWRX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Glad to see these robots doing there job, worth their weight in gold and more.
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6This is for all my dead robotic homies.
/pours out a fow-tee of synthetic oil for the fallen robots. - jasonj75, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Sarah Connor: How are you supposed to know? ***** men like you built the hydrogen bomb. Men like you thought it up. You think you're so creative. You don't know what it's like to really create something; to create a life; to feel it growing inside you. All you know how to create is death...
I laughed then, and I laugh now...Engaged to one of your robots doesn't count BTW. - dyreschlock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4When will the robot killing end!?!
- franklymister, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8I'd like to see how the robot fared after that blast.
- Funktastic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4*****. Ignore this.
- Professr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Why am I getting dugg down? For once, I do a serious post! At least have the decency to explain yourself.
- adiman7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Arghhh... that search system...
- yfguitarist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Dugg for title making little to no sense.
- yfguitarist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4their*
- Spetz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think this is it, albeit under a slightly different link than the one submitted to digg: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
- centran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They don't use RC cars because they need to place the charge at a specific spot and a lot of the time the IEDs are inside things like abandoned cars.
However, for bombs that are buried or just lying on the ground; I do think they should just strap some C4 on a cheap RC car and send it on its death roll. Cheaper and most likely faster. - JudgeMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4the title perfectly explains the situation. What more could you want?
- QuickFix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3hhmm... can't get Gizmodo to load... :-(
- centran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The reason they don't use R/C cars is because with the expensive robot they can place a charge in the right spot on an IED.
The robot isn't suppose to blow up. It is supposed to place a charge and then roll away. After it is a safe distance they set the charge off. - themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4i still prefer the method of kicking something that looks like a bomb first to check and see if it's safe then disposing it in a trash bag.
- allan17, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4So you'd rather see a soldier get blown up instead of a ***** piece metal?
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He also says, "There goes their robot". Keyword: their
- Sparky47, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Danger Will Robinson, Danger!
- jimmy72, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ordinance Disposal
I think. - StealthTomato, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3How petty.
Tell ya what, how 'bout you go fill in for one of those bots? That way, the rest of us save those precious "tax dollars." - Professr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I have a fiancee. You do not understand because you've never built something with your hands, and then watched it leave and operate on its own.
- NJank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2um... no
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Skip it and head to: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1b8_1190002126
Or http://72.14.253.104/search?hs=sUq&hl=en&lr=&c2cof ... (embedded video) - troycott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+130,000 well spent I'd say.
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's why they call it 'sarcasm' :) look it up!
- hollywoodphony, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I'm so sick of my parent's tax money going to save soldier's lives! Wah wah wah! I have a girlfriend! She's real! I swear!
- Nossie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OR... you could just poke it with a great big long stick....
what happened to the barge poles people wouldnt touch things with? - saksa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hi!
Thank you for sharing.
As I see on it I was going again read the Book From Kalrel Čapek-RUR... If it is by you translated, read it!
Success - Monopole, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually R/C cars are also used, on the first pass, by non EOD troops. The primary function is to knock over suspicious packages, if the package is light enough to be knocked over, it's to light to be a bomb.
http://www.defensetech.org/archives/001556.html - uidzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The video appeared to be of soldiers blowing up up because it would look cool. Not actually "on a mission". So my comment was on the fact they appeared to be damaging a VERY expensive piece of machinery for their own enjoyment.

- lalop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dugg your comment, for the "Captain Obvious" remark
- ronaldb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As one of the comments on the Gizmodo site said, laughter can be a stress-release: they might have realized it could have been one of them that was blown to bits, instead of the robot.
