- mzwaterski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Seems like this would be really useful to life guards. You could patrol the beach in ATV mode and head out into the water in a matter of seconds.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I have seen quite a few stories on 'power play toys' over the last few days - including this one. They all appear to be heading towards a convergence of technology that can be used in multiple environments - and they all have a sweet and sharp future look to them.
And the future looks good! - bignate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Easy there, turbo. A lot of us swim AND use motorized vehicles in the water. I, personally, can't pull a skier or a wakeboarder by SWIMMING. Last summer I was at the river and tried to swim all the way to the Hoover dam, but it was a bit difficult so I finally gave in to my own fat-assedness and took a boat.
I was also on vacation last week and you had to take a jetski to get to a lot of the reefs to snorkel. These things have many practical uses. - caffiend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn, that's gotta be expensive. I guess it's one of those things that if you have to ask how much it costs then you can't afford it.
- scottmoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Great! A lousy ATV and a crappy Jet Ski!
- dave_colorado, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9bignate...i can see use for it, no doubt. especially for lifeguards.
however i have to tell you about some experiences i've had with motorized vehicles in the past.
mountain biking on monarch pass in colorado used to be a very quiet, peaceful area. you're in the middle of the mountains, alone, and it's medatative. now the trail has been opened to motorcycles and ATV's. you can't ride it anymore. the motorcyclers feel like it is their trail and they will run you off of it. this sort of thing is happening, it seems to me, all over the state and i have a big problem with it.
so i probably came on too strong, but i still have a valid point even though there are exceptions. we need to encourage people to get exercise and move away from these powered vehicles. that's my opinion. i think this is the last kind of thing that we need. - Anth741, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7About 500,000 pesos

Most PWCs sold today are 4-stroke. They have been for at least 5 years. I don't know where you get your info from, but PWCs are very quiet compared to snowmobiles and ATVs. The exhaust port on PWCs is under water, thereby nearly silencing them. They are effectively jet-boats which have always been notoriously quiet.
Get a clue, before you get on your green soapbox and start ranting.... - anasazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5cool idea but first time you go anywhere "off road" where there are any sort of solid objects like rocks in your path your going to bust a hole in the hull, could make the next time it transitions from land to water a little more exciting.
with that said, if i had $40k i'd get one - bignate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dude, just report it as a dupe, don't post the other story, it just gets you dugg down.

I like how you are quoting date from 1991. - moosebumps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"The vehicle is expected to start around the $46,000 price range."

You know, I know how you feel. I used to like hiking. Then, they opened up all the hiking trails to mountain bikers. So, you're hiking along, it's serene and meditative, then some ***** on Mountain Bikes come barreling down the trail and run the hikers off into the brush! It got so bad I just quit going hiking. - Lane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow.....that is some LOW ground clearance for an ATV. i bet the shocks are very rough. i would take care when jumping even a curb on this thing....
- 06metzp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But there are already plenty of red lights and green lights on the water ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navigation_light
I know, I know, you meant traffic lights, but I couldn't resist. - bubbagump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sure the target audience are those who would be beach running more than off-roading. It certainly would be convenient to ski across the lake to the marina, pop the wheels down and then head to the convenience store...certainly faster than driving 20 miles around the lake... Probably not $40K of convenience though...
Personally, I like the _car_ -- don't knowwhat the price is, and frankly I don't care... I jus tknow I can't afford it...besides that, if I was going to spend that much it would have wings.
Amphibious cars aren't new -- but one that looks this nice is. I've seen amphibicars at the lake when I was growing up as a kid, they always got funny looks when it drove down the ramp and directly into the water...cool toy... - ..eD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4One man's friend is another man's *****.
- ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Okay, that's just damned cool. I have been wanting something like this ever since I saw James Bond drive his amphibious car into the ocean and fire a surface-to-air missile out of it to destroy a helicopter.
- wren337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's the "Futon" of personal watercraft - an uncomfortable couch that turns into an uncomfortable bed
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
I think the only place this will see any play is for emergency services. As someone who rides watercraft and quads, I don't have the lease interest in owning one. While it may work as a "quad" and a "watercraft" it's not going to do either job very well.
Emergency services in remote areas grab all kinds of fringe equipment such as small hovercraft for rescue. Something like this may be of use to them. - Lazybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.gibbstech.co.uk/mediacentre/quadski.php
They have a video as well - mweels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This will be perfect when I get my island!
- AcidBath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn.... so much for the kids college education fund

I guarantee, if you live on this planet and not on the moon or in the mojave, you live near a beach or lake. Whip out your checkbook, Dude! - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That does it! I'm selling my Shuttlecraft and getting one of those!
- mweels, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Dave Colorodo -
I think you should start looking at the bigger picture.
We all need to work together to save the trails. The issue isn't against a fellow hicker, mtn bicker or motorcyclist. The real issues is urben sprawl and development. All groups of trail users need to work together to save the trails.
Mardo - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The price will probably start to come down as they make more and improve the production tech. All new things (even combos) go through this cycle.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's why some beaches allow motorized vehicles, and others don't. So you can decide which one you want to enjoy yourself at.
- jeylux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i completely agree.
the thing is ugly and too long to be useful and either condition.
Sure it looks handy for bay-watch type people , but in general, do you want to take that thing in the woods to use to go hunting? Or take it to the dunes to go riding? ... Hardly. - punkdgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now just make one that can fly... mmmm
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have lived on a lake with a lot of restaurants and stores near shore. THis owuld be so convenient to have! But, that price tag is frightening.
...let me see... a new speed boat, or a little 4 wheeler/jetski thingy? - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, I know a few people that would love one of those. They love and live by the water, and they love quads...
- canyadiggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guarantee this will be in the next Bond movie.
- khyberkitsune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Loud? No, I've seen these things at Port Aransas in Texas. They're no louder than most any car made nowdays, which happens to be pretty quiet. I can't hear some cars start up (stock ones, anyways) it's just like a quiet "clickvwoosh" and the car's silently idling.
- CyberNigma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@MindTrigger
"Yeah, cause you don't want to get dugg down. Life will surely end if the post-nazis who spend 8+ hours a day on this website digg you down."
Actually they don't. They usually just post nasty comments about other post-nazis in the hopes of separating themselves from the others that do the same thing.
[post-nazi] - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If I lived near a beach or a lake, that thing'd be on my wishlist.
- pyrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, for $46K you could have a fleet of quads and jetskis and all of them would perform better than this thing at their respective tasks. Hell, you could throw in a dune buggy, snowmobile and an ultra-light and cover all your bases if you want to spend that kind of cash on recreational vehicles.
- genconkeeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Special Forces will be looking at the Bike version. Roll off a boat, drive on to the beach, make someones day.
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But will still get there in the end, which is the entire point. I suppose it would be cheaper to just get a hovercraft.
- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1really cool design, definitely for the rich weekend warriors.
- weirdone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5that thing looks huge and not too maneuverable but still a cool idea so woot to that.
- gmurray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Industrial Design
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Awesome...
Another loud go-fast machine to polute the lake and subject hundreds of people from all around to the sound of the motor whining. Why don't people just go to the beach to enjoy the beach? Why do they need to buy expensive machiens and disturb everyone else? - Kailash.Nadh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cool, I remember seeing that Aquada car somewhere, a couple years ago.
- donalb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great, yet another tool for the rich and water-clueless to screw up the foreshore for the rest of us..
- tmartinez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't know about the application. But it seems extremely large. It would be hard to ride as an atv. Just my 2 cents.
- BigBlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vehicles that facilitate multiple rolls usually do those rolls half ass. Like an enduro motorcycle. Is it a dirt bike or street bike? It definitely can’t operate near the efficiency of either? I am sure these multiple purpose vehicles will serve a valid function in some arena but for the regular enthusiast it doesn’t make sense.
- Ace25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually liked the enduro as my first bike. It was serveral miles of paved road from my house to the tracks and I could ride the bike there and have ride on road as well as on trails. It was a good first bike to learn on, and my friends with bikes hated having to push their bikes for miles on the street. Ya, off road the true dirt bikes kicked my butt, but for a leisure trail ride or even a little small jumping it worked fine. This was on an Air Force base where they ticket you for everything, and all my friends did get tickets for riding dirt bikes on the street hense the reason they had to walk them or risk having them and their parents thrown out of base housing.
Bottom line, is it fills the role for certain people... rich leisurely people that want to ride from their RV across the lake to the store. - TheExtendedName, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it's a great idea for the convenience factor. No boat ramp needed. Drive that thing off the trailer and right to the water and back again.
- timbellomo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I could see it as great vehicle for lifeguarding... patrol the beach on the ATV mode, then immediately go into the water for rescue... if it wasn't so freakin' expensive.
