- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -2/+83the image is called ‘Me and Louie’s Sister’...
...man if I were Louie I'd be getting mighty pissed off right about now. - heifetz, on 10/12/2007, -14/+46amazing..but not as amazing as the picture done on microsoft paint
- collapse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35some of the best photoshop work i've ever seen - if he started using real source images, it would be impossible to tell the true source of the work. It almost already is.
- spiralspirit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28People arent going "this is cool" because of its composition or color palette. Diggers are impressed with technical skill of the approach; taking a blank canvas and photoshop and putting out something that can be construed as "close to real life".
If you can do better please show us. If you can't then you are simply coming down on this piece of work that is an excercise in technical mastery. - jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Helping her lift a couch. Why, what were you thinking?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Sure, two sweaty heads... One of which is doing "Louie's sister" from behind!
- BionicBeefpile, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Only if you work in a monastery...
OMG It's two sweaty heads! - Braxo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I first checked out the final image before reading the article and said "no way", looking through the steps though, I guess it is possible.
- riverside71, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I stopped at the very first step where he sketched that.. they guy's an artist.. no point trying to 'learn' anything as u wont be able to replicate it in your work.. dugg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I work as system admin at a school and anything that looks slightly dodgy could be trouble.
Especially with kids wandering around. - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18http://www.wade.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/earlygfx.htm
Geez, some people don't know sarcasm when they see it. The parent is being funny. Don't mod him down. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23picture is NSFW.
It got me strange looks at my job.. - Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Yeah, I noticed that also. I bet there is a good story behind that title... sorry Louie
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14he didn't use a tablet to do this, it says right at the top:
"This entire picture was painted using Photoshop 6.0 and a generic 3 button mouse. "
Plus it says that in the title... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Reading what you wrote is like beating myself in the head with a tire iron.
- jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14> Its good, but most people dont have wacom tablets.
Dude, he didn't do it with a tablet
> A guy at my work can do this level of Photoshop with a mouse no sweat.
Surrrrre. And even this guy can do this, how do you know it's a matter of "no sweat" when you don't know what it takes to do stuff like this?
> Isnt that uncommon among people who really know the program.
Nonsense. This has nothing to do with how well you know the program. This confirms again thay you don't know what it takes to make stuff like this. - rolotomasi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Let me get this straight, your boss doesn't care if you waste your time on the internet while working, as long as you don't look at sexy pictures?
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -4/+16Indeed. Nothing pornographic, nothing you wouldn't see on basic television, but some nosey shoulder surfer at work will get the wrong idea about what you're looking at.
And I dare say that the image is of a good enough quality that you'd be hard pressed convincing them that it's not even real. - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -11/+22"Why are all the compliments to this being modded down?" - because the average Digg user is a stupid ***** idiot.
- justinmorris, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14First off, it is not a photo.
And you must realize that by calling it a fake photo, you are calling it a real painting then.... - BESTenemy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Like my instuctor once said: "Photoshop makes it easy to produce crap really fast". A person with artistic background can use any tool, real or virtual to achieve impressive results, others think that the program does all the magic. The best tutorials on painting I've seen weren't about the technique, but attention to detail in real life. Brain has a way of simplifying everything and unless we really thnk of what we see, we won't be able to replicate it.
- NoodleGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=8419
I think this is the one he is referring to. - nimsey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12His site says it is a tribute to and a parody of "me and my sister" by louie. http://www.gfxzone.org/personal/louie/02/louie-me_and_my_little_sister.html
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah nice work. This picture's been around for a while, but its the first time I've seen the tutorial.
I didn't think anyone else was into "doin it with a mouse" (so to speak) but I did this one with a mouse:
http://www.richgentlemenhide.com/sketchdump/2006/04/04/post-73
I might have to do a tutorial along these lines one day... photoshops changed quite a bit since 6... - EPeters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10What the hell is Tom Cruise doing feeling up Sharon Stone?!
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"Photo's a fake..."
He must be really good, then. You couldn't tell a painting from an actual photo. - vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Direct link to final image: http://www.wade.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/FinalPic.png
- bigtabs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9One of the few 'Amazing' digg links that actually warrants the term. Nice find.
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8‘Me and Louie’s Sister’
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Actually, he is speaking of the really amazing things done with MS paint. Google for the images, I'm to lazy to do it for you.
(IE, life-realistic "Paintings" done in MS-paint) - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9It looks like a cover of one of those books my mom likes to read. I wonder what those books are about...
- unpossible, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This guy has some talent at copying pictures with a mouse, I admit. But if you want to see some class A work check out Craig mullins, he has worked on many hollywood films and is probably one of the best digital painters around.
http://www.goodbrush.com/ (as posted before) - djhash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@rolo... its called lunchbreak/mealbreak
- spiralspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Try picking up a wacom tablet and seeing what you can do. There are several differences between drawing with a pencil and with a tablet.
1) You arent looking at what you are drawing. You are looking up and drawing down. Its quite difficult and requires a degree of hand-eye coordination.
2) The plastic against plastic movement on the tablet doesnt even come close to the feel of drawing. The stylus slides along the plastic in a way no one who has drawn with a pencil is used to. - FortyCaliber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@iSEPIC
Agreed. The average user... of anything... is a Stupid ***** Idiot. That's why he/she is average. If they wer ebetter than average, they wouldn't be a stupid ***** idiots.
This is why there are so many stupid ***** idiots out there: because the average is just that, and average, which means most people will fall in to that category; that stupid ***** idiot category.
Why are these compliments being modded down? Almost all of the Diggs are in the negative. What the ***** are these stupid ***** idiot using as criteria for digging down? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Why are all the compliments to this being modded down? This shows off some fantastic work and shows just what Photoshop is capable of, among many other things.
- Barlo_Mung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ spiralspirit
Wacom has many different "nibs" (pen tips) that give a different feel. In any case the plastic on plastic feel of a wacom pen beats the brick on table feel of a mouse.
This guy is good for sure but just think what he could do if he had a tablet. - latinjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Um....If you didn't notice. It looks like he's kinda busy tapping that right about now.
- Razerious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All hail jdonner, king of the internet!
- yuckfou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great step-by step. I like the part where he admits his mistakes and helps to prevent others from doing the same.
- jonahan52, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Digg posters annoy me sometimes. Seriously, WE DON'T CARE why you aren't digging this story! Just don't dig it and stfu.
- wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -5/+10wouldn't you?
- ASoggyWaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Imagine what he could do with GIMP!"
nothing! just like every other gimp user hahahaha - Smoov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Technically impressive.
Artistically... Harlequin Romance cover illustration. - jaiwithani, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10This picture pretty clearly has sweat.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thanks for the comments...
yeah the old "uncanny valley" thats always a tough one, especially with digital art because unlike painting or drawing you're left with a perfectly smooth surface (unless you're patient enough to paint each pore).
People commented that the frodo one from earlier was too "noisy" and I'd say really thats to compensate for it being too smooth. A real photograph might end up looking too grainy, but it will never end up accidentally losing detail in certain areas but not others - hence people use noise, high contrast or blur etc to escape the uncanny valley... I think real airbrush art can often suffer from the same problems... - shogunu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Stop spamming, *****.
- PrimoTurbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4When I first looked at the final image with out reading the tutorial my first thought was “FAKE”. Then I realized he used a grid and a reference image, he has a lot of skill in recreating the image but then again he had a reference image which already had all the correct details, lighting and proportions. Of course his final result will look nearly photographic.
- xjimtx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Being interested in the photoshop tut, I just glanced at the title at the top and just read "Me and sister". As I'm going through the pages and hes adding the details I'm thinking what the heck is he doing to his sister.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Demo scene art, been around for over 20 years now. It just keeps getting better and better. The scene is full of way underrated talent (graphics, music, coding, design, ect). What this guy is going is just one drop in the glass. Check out http://www.scene.org for a starting point for all things to do with the scene (demoscene). Some truely amazing work these people do.
