- legendxx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35agreed, its too bad that the growth of digg has caused a lot of the old timers on this site (not saying I am one) to be pushed away. All the new-comers keep posting stories that they, and their fellow newbies, have never seen yet have been on digg 5 times or more in the past. There should be some kind of tag that says stories like these are not breaking news, just a rare gem they found on the net and wish to share with others. I believe this will solve a lot of the 'dupe' problems. People should see this kind of stuff, it just gets old when you see it over and over again.
- ArcticWolf_0, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16This was actually on Diggnation a while back.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10hey cool!
*crack*
damn - vdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11To those who constantly cry dupe: at the top of the page, there is a button marked 'Bury'. Click it and you'll see there's an option called 'Duplicate Story'. Please click that rather than posting in the thread. Thank-you.
This message was brought to you buy the Society of Concerned Diggers. - Jofaba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Honestly one of the most amazing things I've seen in a while. Not just beautiful (never thougth I'd be calling a pencil "beautiful"), but damn, the precision and patience required just not to break the graphite. The designs are brilliant. I wonder how many they "almost finished" then broke. I'd go insane trying to do something like that.
- kakwakas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All these pictures are 10+ years old. I think we can give them a break on quality.
- vdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Believe it or not, but there are actually still craftsmen and artisans in this world; people with the skill to actually make such things. Don't call 'Photoshop' just because it's too hard for you to make- there's a big difference between the insanely difficult and the impossible.
- Calculusaurus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15@legendxx
For the 90% of us who haven't seen this yet, this is really cool. Not all of us peruse digg.com every day, cringing at the thought of missing a single story. It was front-paged before, but so what. Apparently it was a long time ago.
And for the 10% of you who have seen it, well, I'm not sure how having it front-paged again really inconveniences you. No reason to whine.
Obviously, there would be a problem if duped stories got in the way of new stories. But since 99% of front-paged stories are not dupes, this isn't really the case, unless you're anal about that sort of thing. - nokaagnew, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Definitely old, but definitely amazing.
- ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8love the inevitable "cool, i wish there was a tutorial on it!"
dude. nobody showed *them* how to do it. why not go out and try creating things in the world, instead of trolling the Internet for "tutorials" on how to live?
oh, and:
http://www.notcot.com/archives/2006/10/carved_crayons.html - kixxster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It's Japanese or something, almost positive its real. They're beautiful
- fishbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I, for one, hope this gets dugg like crazy... it'd be funny to have the first Diggnation dupe.
http://revision3.com/diggnation/2005-12-15 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this was on the first episode of diggnation i ever saw.
either that or tss. not really sure.
either way, its awesome - LastExile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kikko is my fav out of them all.
- clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have never in all my days seen pencils so blatantly violated.
- ToxicBomber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Ok then you little retard....why don't you make one yourself and show us how "talented" YOU are?!
- Broelke4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Sweet, no way I'll ever be patient enough to do something as delicate as that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://digg.com/search?area=all&age=all&sort=new&s=pencil+carving&submit=Search
That is all. - madmathmatician, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2word.
- LQBMaV, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5So...I know that i'll be dugg down for this...but this was ON THE SHOW a year ago...so i'm going to have to call dupe.
http://digg.com/design/Pencil_Carving
http://digg.com/users/diggnation/dugg?s=pencil
and I know that people are crying 'dupe' and all and other people are sick of it...but kevin and alex ***** TALKED about it on diggnation...so this is quite possibly the worst dupe of any dupe. - AllenHSmilden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yep I can testify, It was actually on the show.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5it made it to the frontpage once i believe, but still cool!
- bobabadabouskie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does anybody else think that the crayon carvings look kinda phallic at first glance?
- epiccollision, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1to the ppl amazed at the ability to carve around the lead in the middle..don't be the pencils are split along the glue seam and the lead removed...at this point depending on the design the two halves are reglued...carve, slice, cut...reinsert lead into appropriate pieces...that solves the lead issue...the rest is great hand work...kudos
- selrahc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"or more like five-minutes in photoshop."
Have you ever used Photoshop? that would take more than 5 minutes even if it was Photoshopped. I'm pretty sure they don't make a filter that does it automatically for you. - st23r, on 11/25/2008, -0/+0my thoughts exactly =]
- spiffytech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://duggmirror.com
- houdini, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Wish the closeup pictures were higher resolution.
- galacticroot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Get small tools, a magnifier and then practice.
I've carved pencils with a high speed micro grinder and it was relatively easy. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures since they were just for practice and I threw them out. A Dremel tool with a flex shaft also works well and is cheap. - spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Seen it before, scroll on by and don't digg it. Dupe or not, if users dig (one G) it then it should be on the front page. It's a simple system, seems like if you've been on Digg long enough to see dupes then you'd understand how it works.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2that's a duplicate comment.
- xnike2livx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well at least it has a Web 2.0 layout.

- 9mmCensor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3This was news in what, 1999. Welcome to the new Millennium. I will go post some Y2K articles now because maybe someone didn't see them when they were current.
- xmylox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5@ legendxx
When you submit a story, digg takes you through a few steps so you can verify that your story isn't a dupe. It shows you stories with similar url's and titles, so that you'll see if it's been submitted before. So whoever posted this had to have known that it is a dupe and isn't at all innocent. For the people that digg the story however, it would be nice if there was some easy way to verify that the story isn't a dupe so that they can digg the original story if it is. - dumpling, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Duplicate. I think this was was even on diggnation.
- kakwakas, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5@Calc

Here, I have some cool sites for you guys you may not have seen. One's called Hamster Dance and the other's called Goatse... - PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -16/+11>> they look pretty fake to me, obviously these are photoshops. you people can be so gullable lol.
BURIED as inaccurate.
Do you have anything to contribute apart from calling everything photoshopped? Espially stuff that's clearly not?
