- dextrousm, on 10/11/2007, -5/+157The next time I hear the words "Amazing HDR" or "Addicting Flash" anything...I might have to rampage.
That said, great shot. - s1ade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+28Better title would be " A nice photo of some clouds..."
- ChocoMidget, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Actually HDR is great for all types of photography. It's just crap in the hands of people that don't know to use it. Like every Flickr photographer out there...
I'm almost tempted to make a whole site devoted to showing how to do this technique properly because its horrible what some of these people produce.
However this photo - done correctly - my hat is off to you sir.
BTW define normal photography. (good luck with that) - rynTAU, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Monsoon? what monsoon? Looks like a nice sunrise to me..
- Scheissen, on 10/11/2007, -11/+27That isn't amazing. There's nothing special about it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+21Nothing special + far from amazing = buried
- codyman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13BTW define normal photography. (good luck with that)
Good Point.... but for a lot of people, normal photography means "point, click, download to hard drive, email to grandma" - Buzzby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12@HenvY
lol some of them photos are painful!....Photoshop (ab)Users... - lopla, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12yawn.
How to get diggs:
use following words in headline:
"Amazing HDR!"
"Amazing!"
"Breathtaking!"
"Hack" something non-code related for example "How to Hack Your Coffee"
"Top 10 tips" or ways or top5's people just love top 10's and top 5's
"Guide" ppl love them guides.. - OfF3nSiV3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12i don't think that photograph is HDR
the trees below are very dark and the buildings lightly dark too
HDR is meant to render (almost) all areas visible with same lighting which isn't the case - ChocoMidget, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Okay just because something is dark in area doesnt mean its not an HDR. I cant believe I'm doing this but here is a link to an image on my site http://www.chaselindberg.com/autohtmls/auto01.html I used no lights, and burned down the corners via Adobe Photoshop Software. Also all of my architecture work is HDR if you want to see more examples. HDR doesn't remove artistic freedom to alter a photograph, it just gives you more options.
- HenvY, on 10/11/2007, -10/+17I agree, but I bet you my left nut the original looked better. HDR is useless for normal photography.
Example: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=HDR&l=4 - Buzzby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7A decent HDR Tutorial, if anyone is interested in having a go.
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/hdr.shtml - super8mtb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I was just about to comment the same thing. Either its done very tastefully, or its just a great exposure and this guy knows how to use the dynamic range of his camera sensor very well.
- hectazee, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9horizon is tilted, me no like.
- azharc, on 10/11/2007, -9/+14Lol, sorry the word "Amazing" just came naturally... must use Thesaurus next time :)
"That said, great shot." - thanks :) - shad0w, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Uh, sorry, but this is not HDR. The buildings and trees and everything in the foreground are underexposed.
- smb3d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Someone needs to make a greasemonkey script to remove any article with those two words in the title.
- Wyzard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Dynamic range has nothing to do with pixel dimensions.
- rkuchiki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Don't forget:
"BREAKING!"
"Apple"
"Kevin Rose" - Codee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I love being reminded I'm on a planet.
Great shot. - etruscan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5@Scarfy "Odd, it's actually HDR for once"
Actually - it's not very HDR at all. High Dynamic Range implies that you've got a wide tonal range (ie. from shadowed areas to bright areas properly exposed). The bulk of the ground here is in shadow, and there's very little detail aside from the tops of those skyscrapers. It's still a nice shot, but I'm not sure how "HDR" it is. - changyang1230, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3HDR is high dynamic range, not high definition range.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Sucks, digg down. This isnt amazing enough for the digg cartel to bump this to front page Numbero uno. I'd rather read about Apple AGAIN than this .. well soso photo of a sky.
Remember: ''Amazing!'
omfg - allenu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The tilted shot adds a little tension. ;-)
- trollick, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Inaccurate. Replace "Amazing" with "Kinda lame"
- neogarfield, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3An HDR camera is quite costly isnt it?
But this is a beautiful shot... I thought it was a photoshopped image at first, but then I saw the rains at a distance. Great scene!
In other words, at the right time, at the right place, with the right camera :) - tagliare, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Agreed. There's no way this is HDR. The dynamic range is too low. A nice photo, yes. HDR, no.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Do you have a regular, Non-HDR version?
- Stonekeeper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Nice photo. Nothing else...
- Buzzby, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Personally I would be more concerned with the wonky horizon.....
- rmmcclay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think it is amazing. Thanks, azharc.
- khyberkitsune, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I think I have a new version of "photoshopped"
This photo has been JASCd! (The makers of Paint Shop Pro, which shares many of the same plugins as Photoshop back in the day) - kkapoor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Love the underlying socially darwinistic connotations of some of these comments.
- yoshitomi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"Amazing HDR"? Why would someone glorify their own work?
Back down to Earth, my friend. - nixdoctor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Beautiful India!
- gpd209, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't get the appeal of looking at photos of "nature" that are edited in photoshop. I value good composition (and this guy has some beautifully composed shots on his site), but this particular photo is all about the dramatic coloration, which simply isn't real.
- corevette, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7direct link: http://www.thedailysunrise.com/photos/DSC00285%20PP2.jpg
- Lorwik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.hdrjapan.com has some killer HDR Images.
- Phyrefly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2HDR? This is more like LDR...
- bobsil1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is not the monsoon, it's a pre-monsoon downpour (it's due in a week). The severe floods happened in '05 not last year.
- temsi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@HenvY
If the examples you linked are the only "HDR" images by which you judge the process, then you would be correct, seeing as pretty much all those images were NOT HDR, (which is why I put HDR in quotes) but rather overprocessed crap that bears no resemblance to what HDR is supposed to do.
A "proper" HDR combines multiple exposures to mimic what the human eye can see, as the human eye can adjust to a remarkable range of light, while film and digital exposures are pretty limited.
About 95% of what you'll see if you google "hdr" images, is crap. Either they're over-processed so they look like anime or an old 90's video game, or they're simply not made with multiple exposures but rather made using Highlight/Shadows. Sometimes they just look like the person went nuts on the contrast ratio and saturation controls.
Here's one of the HDR images I've seen done right: http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/HDR/HDR-1600-base-lores.jpg - byronm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Some cameras may offer an "HDR" mode for those who aren't inclined to learn about photography but any camera (digital) can do HDR easily by doing 3 exposures of a scene by using your cameras frame functionality and then post processing the image using your fav hdr photoshop plugin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

- addicted68098, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I do not like HDR style photos, I might be crazy
