- EddiePotato, on 10/29/2009, -3/+15Not really. The upper class minority is very rich and loves extravagance, but socially and culturally Dubai is still pretty backward and oppressive. I'd say Japan and a few European countries are setting the most progressive examples for the rest of the world.
- creoderiot, on 10/29/2009, -1/+11Why? Because it's a valid and unresolved issue.
- MacBookForMe, on 10/29/2009, -1/+9Dugg for that cool silver space ball...
- Awwzm, on 10/29/2009, -1/+9That's no moon.
- KungFooJesus, on 10/29/2009, -0/+8It's ahead of its financing and rational thought as well.
- BookaShade, on 10/29/2009, -2/+8Their entire economy is run on tourism. Frankly though I don't care how cool their slave built architecture looks like I wouldn't want to vacation there.
- skelooth, on 10/29/2009, -3/+8That place can burn to rubble for its crimes against humanity. There should be no toleration of slavery.
- Idiggapony, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5The slaves of Dubai: http://humanrights.foreignpolicyblogs.com/2009/04/ ...
Nice ***** building. - vofuse, on 10/29/2009, -2/+7I'd still rather go to Vegas.
- drGt1987, on 10/29/2009, -2/+7Every day new wonder from Dubai...
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -1/+5they'd put you to work building all those great buildings with the rest of the slaves.
- joculator, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4Looks like it's modeled after the Deathstar.
- jwolcott, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4That's because you're poor.
- bencefeher, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4I'm just wondering, did they finish their other ideas yet? I really want to go and see them.
- prolikewhoa, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4I hear Dubai has as much charm as a cold corporate lobby.
- tusharpant, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4Again they got funds from neighboring country
- BookaShade, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2No I don't mean oil because only 6% of The United Arab Emirates revenue is generated by oil. Guess what is over 27% of their revenue (which is a ***** load) yea that's right tourism.
- Philbert, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2As a 3D artist myself I'm guessing the artist probably had a bunch of cool car models he had done in the past and needed something to fill the empty parking lot so he used those. I would have (and have) done the the same thing.
- AngryDeuce, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2@thepeacemaker:
And we also thought the world was flat back then and that everything in the universe was controlled by a multitude of Gods, marrying your sister was A-ok, as was human sacrifice. We're smarter then that now...most of us anyways.
Let me see them build it and actually treat their workers humanely and pay them a decent wage. WON'T ***** HAPPEN. They couldn't afford it. That's why you'll never see ***** like this in a first world country.
If anything, these buildings are a testament to how ***** up it is.. - Turious, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2I love those crazy Dubai engineers. They're either insane or... yeah, they're insane.
- pyrates, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2It's the biodome!
- JTMON, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1THAT THINGS OPERATIONAL!!!!!!
- physco827, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2if you look at the concept art, why are all the cars expensive? they trying to say you have to have a viper, acura nsx, or ferrari f40 to be at that place? (look at the concept art, all the cars in it are those 3.......except maybe one.)
- Kafro, on 10/29/2009, -2/+3Too bad their spending all their money on stupid aesthetic ***** instead of building a water plant to filter their water so people stop losing their hair in Dubai...
http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AI ...
They have a real problem but they don't care...many 20-some year old men/women are going bald after using Dubai water to wash their hair after a few months. - Thud, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2wow, that's even more impressive than the concept art for "The World" manmade islands. I can't wait to see what other concept art comes out of Dubai!
- urazn13, on 11/27/2009, -0/+1Dubai's a crazy place. Peep www.dubaicome.com
- korvan504521, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1except those were a complete disaster, and never finished.
- Locastus, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Dubai is a giant house of cards.
Sooner or later it'll all fall apart and most of those shiny buildings will be swallowed by the desert. - joshua911, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1naah they borrowed it from abu-dhabi (capital of UAE). Abudhabi has oil while Dubai has business...so during recession as everyone knows businesses closed hence resulting in Dubai's loss. So to get out of trouble they borrowed their money from Abu dhabi
- joshua911, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1yeh dubai is crowded with western people...seriously u cant even cover a distance of 1 km in half n hour...its like bunch of car stuck for no reason
- 818digg, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1looks like everyone in Dubai drives a Viper, Corvette, F40, or NSX according to this image, though there is a mustang or two in there.
- dragon0196, on 10/29/2009, -0/+0@thepeacemaker
Actually, I was in Cairo last month. They said the pyramids were built by oxen and I totally believe them. - AngryDeuce, on 10/29/2009, -2/+2Cool, another awesome building to be built by slave labor!
Wish we could all be as awesome as Dubai!
/s (for those that are retarded) - inactive, on 10/29/2009, -6/+6Dubai is really ahead of it's time.
- kernel16, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1Every other day a blog posting regarding Dubai's CONCEPT pops up on the front page, get back to me with the foundation pics to know they're actually building it.
- twoblueday, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1Something else for the slave laborers to build, with more shoddy workmanship, and it will probably never get built at all.
- limpboy, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1They already built it in abu dhabi, the richer city in the Emirates.
http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/ ...
development called Raha beach....google it! - JTMON, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1Being one of the richest nations, what would you expect. Pinto's?
- dcmcderm, on 10/29/2009, -2/+2*Insert random comment on the general crappiness of Dubai*
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -1/+1id like to goto dubai but i dont think i could even afford to be homeless there..
- Philbert, on 10/29/2009, -2/+1Spaceship Earrh looks cool from the outside but as a ride it sucks. The audio is too load and you spend half the ride with you head banging against a heard plastic "head rest".
- italirican, on 10/29/2009, -2/+1what a waste of space.
- Auntmac, on 10/29/2009, -2/+1I think I'd get tired of the Uhn-tiss-uhn-tiss-uhn-tiss, all day long.
- thepeacemaker, on 10/29/2009, -2/+1...and the pyramids were built by well-paid labor unions with health care and vacation leave and that is why people want to go see them.
/s - manogamez, on 10/29/2009, -3/+1But it has nothing to do with architecture. If we were both sitting in a lecture titled called "Examples Civil Engineering" the professor would probably be pretty pissed if you started talking about Dubai's slave labor in the middle of it.
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -3/+11. Go to Dubai
2. Design something ridiculous
3. Go Broke
4. ???
5. Profit? - inactive, on 10/29/2009, -5/+3Hahaha, oh my god, all of the cars are essentially super cars. What great concept art..
I see a Viper lookalike, an F40 lookalike and a Corvette lookalike. - dragon0196, on 10/29/2009, -4/+0^^ I think you meant oil.
- manogamez, on 10/29/2009, -8/+2Why does every Dubai tech/architecture digg story ALWAYS devolve into arguments about slave labor and oil money? Save it please.
