And he/she's right about the other thing too, considering how hard they are to find why don't you share all the great ones you seem to know about.
- AdamTReineke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Smashing Magazine has some great stuff. Lots of their articles have been on Digg lately, and are great resources.
- Zedizdead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Really how this got to the front page is sad, but someone should re-post this, with more/better tutorials!"
Well why don't you? At least this person is contributing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Maku
We all know your feverishly looking for a bunch of tutorials on Illustrator so as not to look stupid.... but alas, your too late! - Shpox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Excellent, I was looking for these.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very good for newbies!!
Thank you!! - SnowFire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Illustrator is a great tool, but I really hate it how it makes me fight against it when selecting amongst other operations, and that's why I'm still sticking to Freehand. I hope Adobe gives it an update because as far as speed, freehand beats illustrator hands down. I don't understand how an application as advanced as illustrator can be such a resource hog at times.
Also I've noticed that comparatively Freehand files seem to be much smaller than Illustrator, specially when embedding images. - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't worry about it, jonathono2000. Some of us have better sense than to live in Minneapolis...
- barthook, on 10/14/2007, -1/+3They have some good articles. I just started using their feed.
- Keyframe3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Illustrator is to Xara Xtreme as IIS is to Apache."
slow and retarded? - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One thing that makes me laugh is the fact ive used an old old copy of Xara X for the past 5+ years, and yet its STILL better than the other crap people use today. Not to mention dirt cheap in comparison.
P.S. Anyone who diggs you down probably has no idea what Xara is, and probably downloads pirated versions off the adobe suite. Dont take it personally. - SnowFire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You have a display setting in Freehand which can enable Full Resolution preview, haven't found that setting in Illustrator yet, maybe it's probably there and I haven't seen it.
I really want Freehand to be updated. I think it would make a lot of people happy if they actually did that rather than force users to migrate. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The gradient mesh tool is one of those bastard tools that I've never quite used enough to understand it.
- theadvinci, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1If I had to choose between designing Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw, I'd have to take Corel.
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is anthrax bad?
- SamKellett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2After Effects next please!
- rtoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1are you a postal worker?
- kavaliro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even coming from a graphic arts background, when I was learning to beat Illustrator into submission, I spent about 6 to 8 weeks in frustration. I still hate using it. I switched to Inkscape about a year ago and never looked back. But then I found out about the GPL'd XaraLX and gave it a try. Oh, it's pure bliss. It beats anything else out there, even in it's not-quite-finished-being-ported state.
- TeeLaw, on 03/13/2009, -0/+0Photoshop tutorials http://iniwoo.net
- monosyth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1these have great tutorials! are y'all drunk/high/cracked up?
- eedoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have found tutorials to be very helpful. While I will rarely actually do a tutorial, I will skim them to pick up techniques. If for some reason I can't get the technique to work myself, I can then go back and follow the instructions to see where the trick is. As for the quality of the tutorials, some aren't great, but there are a few (like the banner tutorial) that are more focused on conveying technique, key commands for speed, and theory than just telling you how to make something that looks exactly like the example.
- Gromkii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Illustrator is a LOT of fun to use.
Mad props for the linkage. :D - kavaliro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Yeah, or...
Go pick up a copy of Xara Xtreme. Illustrator is to Xara Xtreme as IIS is to Apache. Xara is so far ahead of Illustrator, it'd be like comparing backyard baseball to the Majors. - nowsamsara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a person who has had Illustrator for some time but who installed it and became scared, I am grateful for this page. I have Stumbled it, Dugg it, and will now add it to Delicious for in the near future where I hope to dedicate some time into finally learning this apparently very powerful vector utility.
This page will be my first stop, as I do appreciate the many links it offers. - papastout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The best part of AI is that every print shop I have ever worked with supported the format with little need for translation. Working with prepress techs is easy when there's common ground and that's most often found in Illustrator.
- inlove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Those tutorials teach you nothing other than creating some quick fancy effects. You'll require professional training, very steep learning curve and a lot of practice to get the hang of this amazing program.
- RafaelVilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool!
- jonathono2000, on 10/19/2007, -4/+3The lame thing about these tutorial is that they show you how to create stuff in Illustrator that you should be trying to figure out on your own if your at all interested in becoming proficient with it.
I can show somebody how to draw a sunflower but then if I ask them to draw a rose they will do it better and faster if they had figured out how to draw the sunflower by themselves.
What a good Illustrator tutorial should teach you is the technical info that can't be learned from experience lest you botch an entire run because your art school grad ass didn't know that Photoshop images with spot colors need to be saved in multichannel DCS 2.0 format to preserve that oh so sublime Reflex Blue, you F'ing dolt.
I am in know way referring to anyone specific.
But if you are graduating from MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) in the near future and you come and work for me and you don't want to look like a complete idiot when I have to tell you everything you did is wrong please for the love of god spend some time reading the "technical" tutorials that are provided by Adobe or I will print them and shove them down your throat. - nevaseez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I prefer CorelDraw X3 over Illustrator, now if all the so called photoshop "artists" only had a clue as to what a vector was...

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1CreativeCow.net has the best. But as for bulk supply tutorials visit, pixel2life.com you dumbass photoshop newbies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+2These are definitely not even close to the best tutorials on the web.
