- EndangeredMassa, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32They are NOT Venn Diagrams at all. Please look up the definition of a Venn Diagram.
- UglieJosh, on 10/11/2007, -12/+38The president is part of the blue section.
- neel360, on 10/11/2007, -6/+27I suppose it beats getting your genitals mutilated.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29"show us how a country's flag can represent some statistical data about... well ... that country."
*****.
If you had said that this was meant to be political satire, I would have laughed. To call it statistical data representation is just *****. - dingleberry, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21So they just took some generalizations about the country and assigned them colors on that countries flag? Dugg-down as lame.
- waronflesh, on 10/11/2007, -8/+18Why is everyone so happy to see the "US get pwnd"? I can understand hating US policies and the current leadership; but what the hell would provoke you to take pleasure in the defamation of your own nation?
- PecanHead, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11> P.S. USofA gets pwnd.
Guess what? This is Digg. We already knew it would be USA-bashing without even clicking on the link. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12P.S. Your site gets owned.
- CarolynMittens, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10oh, I was hoping I'd actually learn what different countries' flags mean. That would have been an interesting post.
- TheSolomon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9In all honesty, the US is far from being "pwnd." Our flag talks about our split on supporting the war, and the smaller chunk who might not be able to point out Iraq on a map? Compared to the other flags, seems like we look pretty good to me. I'll take split in public opinion and stupidity of a minority over stavation, mutilation, and forced labor ANY day, thank you. :-)
- kamerononfire, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14what makes you think he is, or everyone on digg is american? i certainly am not.
- Thorpe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I can get on it fine using digg.com as the referrer.
- MikeZila, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Human asshattery. We're angry about human asshattery.
- geminitojanus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"I suppose it beats getting your genitals mutilated."
Just wait for the whole pro-/con- baby circumcision discussion to bring digg full circle. - nolesshabitual, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@gawtmilk:
agreed stonewall probably fits in the blue field, but the first mustang came out in late 1964. i may be a liberal tree-hugger but i know american muscle - MadMaxx426, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Where was France's flag? I was hoping to see which colors represented their surrenders, but alas, I think that would be all of them.
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Symbolic representation of indeterminate statistics through the use of bright and pretty colors!
That's just about par for the course around here.
NEXT: The fascination of jingling keys - EndangeredMassa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Perhaps.
This would have been a lot more convincing if there was some evidence to backup the Legends listed on the flags. I didn't see any mention of where they found their data or how they compiled it.
I would mark it as satire more than a proper statistical representation. - CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yes, yes......but what if we're satirizing the satire?
- MikeZila, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Because it's funny.
I was taught in high school history (Yes, we have schools in America. Hard to fathom, I know.) that throughout our history, we have a policy of, "Nobody makes fun of our country and President...but us.".
I will take the liberty of adding, "...except for Bush, he's an asshat." - FiP0, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Well as long as it just "kinda" makes you think, you should be fine. ;)
- marlonmunsen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3it's called "art", *****.
- dasilva333, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5are the proportions of each flag statistically accurate?
- shartman, on 10/11/2007, -8/+10'kind of makes you think' it's stupid!
- Shiftgood, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Jesus Christ guys! I put this in the design section just to show an artists interpretation (which is different) of how to display some data. I wasn't out to give you a P.h.d in foreign relations.
/relax and enjoy things - EndangeredMassa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6It's not an issue of wanting to defame your own nation just for fun. It's an issue of wanting to further show the world how US policy is not approved by every American.
Also, just because it is "your own nation", that doesn't mean that it is somehow better or worse than any other. It also does not mean that it should be immune from defamation or given any special consideration when you are talking about nations in general. - torgos, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5P.S. I want the 30 seconds I just wasted waiting for the page to load and reading its stupidity of my life back. Buried as inaccurate and over-generalizing.
- kamerononfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4i wish people would search before they post an article. i've seen this one too many times.
- Sanooj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2douchebag
- MikeZila, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3You could go ahead and bury it for being a duplicate story. It's already been frontpage'd twice that I remember.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I said "concept" of Venn Diagram not "these ARE the very definition of a Venn Diagram", please learn to read
- fantasticFlan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Waited about 2 minutes for the American flag to load and see how we got "pwnd", I am pleasantly disappointed.
Except for EU and Brazil (which hasn't loaded), the others are ***** harsh.
United States: there is support, opposition, and ignorance on the war, that's some uber pwnage. /sarc - shinynew, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2And also almost every single country gets it worse off then the US.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+65th time this has made digg.
- xioner, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4any way we can bury for bad description while digging for half-decent site?
- dan8302, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4DUMB
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"but what the hell would provoke you to take pleasure in the defamation of your own nation?"
Because it's no longer our nation. - GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3I'm guessing "Stonewall Jackson" not only drives a '60 Mustang in deluxe black / rust two-tone, but also falls under the "blue section".
- kiduk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2People in the world think we are equally split about the war? That's surprising.
- teknomunk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3"Because it's funny."
I think that sums up representation of the American flag. It made me laugh, the blue part. - eth3l, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2clever
- FiP0, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Your thinking is way too binary.
- SteelChicken, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Its getting quite old. But some people just cant feel good about themselves unless they are tearing someone else down. Whatever.
- AbeVigoda, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This was an ad campaign created by an agency called FCB a few years ago. They do some pretty crap work (besides this, which was created by an out-of-the-states office) and have recently teamed up with an even crappier agency, Draft.
http://www.draftfcb.com/flash/index.html - ElwoodHerring, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Reading the above posts makes me all the more certain that Americans just don't get satire. Come over here to Britain - we wallow in it!
- FiP0, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2now that would be useful ! :D
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4For the morons/koslams/diggerals that like USA bashing threads. Go join your brethern in Hamas
- seleneg08, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This had already been on here a long time ago. It's entertaining but nothing more, besides I'm American and I thought we were the only country in the world! :-/
- abusive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I'm in one of the stars. I can see myself there.
- StrangeFamous, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1The situation here in the US is a little different than the simple "Red vs. Blue" analogy (with us or against us).
The pundits would like us all to believe that it's as simple as "choosing a side". But the reality is much more complicated than that. There are thousands of people who bridge the gap between the two perceived "sides".
Some Democrats have more conservative leaning values, while some Republicans (you know who) stray away from what the public now sees as the Neo-Con movement, which has appropriated the name "Republican" and altered the traditional conservative view to be more of a mixture of religious belief and unquestioning loyalty to the White House.
If anything, there should be a fourth color:
The dark stains and creases represent the corporate entities that secretly steer the direction of our government's policies by using lobbyists to funnel money into the pockets of weak-minded politicians, controlling the votes and thus controlling the legislation.
That's the reality of this country. We've got some of the best smoke and mirrors in the world. Unfortunately, that's all we ever get with this government. Smoke and mirrors.
While the young men and women of our country are dying, fighting an arbitrary battle against a concept, this administration ***** around with our constitution, rolls back human rights, and further drives a wedge between all of us, convincing us that the only way to "win" is to never question the decisions of those in power. -
