- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Damn, I can recognize an IIS 404 error in any language.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11But where are the panties?
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9the japanese 404 looks nicest.
- RawShark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That is bad ass. Both the interface and being able to take a brief trip back to Tokyo.
- otakumonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What's with "Maybe Apple could rollout a killer VR city walktrough with Google." Why would Apple do such a thing? Fanboy dreams.
- lorean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Why. Won't. Your. Kind. Die.
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It sure is better than that Tokyo HDR that came up a couple days ago.
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Too bad it's not in English, so that I can actually try stuff out without my head exploading.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I really should take more photos and post them on Digg, you guys can't seem to get enough of Japan ;)
- OpenFuture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a beautiful place!
- TinFoil209, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32nd that. Plus it links to Microsoft English... Arggghh!!!
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3arent they hated by the general population in every culture?
isnt that the case for most fringe sub-cultures in any culture? - synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where are the PEOPLE? I've never seen Shibuya station so empty...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Guess I'll bookmark it and check back when the digg effect dies down.
- kettle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought the 360 degree view of shibuya station in the early morning, with absolutely no human in sight was pretty cool. Not sure if I believe it though - I've |never| seen hachikomae completely empty, and I live a few minutes away, and have been there once or twice at virtually every hour of the day.
- kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i find that hard to believe too...
that place is always packed during the day. - freonchill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we broke it!
- PeTeRZz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty cool, although "night view" does not work for me
- myfanwy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Maybe Apple could rollout a killer VR city walktrough with Google."
it's only a start, but Google has a similar thing already in Google earth - turn on 3d buildings and cruise round at street level, with the map tilted to 90 from how you normally view it. detail is gradually being added to make the buildings more realistic - Vicken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4404 error
- Neorio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing.... Shibuya station Hachiko exit with NO people in sight! Incredible!
(it's arguably the busiest intersection in Tokyo.) - kettle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@idioticBug
Don't know whether you can read Japanese or not, but in case you can't, what the Japanese you posted says is simply that too many people are accessing the site. I'm sure it will die down in a day or so. - evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or pan left and see 2 of the same guy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...But... It's running Apache 0.o...
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So all that is basically just Japanese for "digg effect"?
- lorean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am not an expert in Japan, I have only visited there 2 weeks. But from what other friends tell me, such a condition could exist during some national holidays (golden week?).
- queraxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That underground motorway being constructed is crazy!
- Mushroonaut, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1still not working :-(
- mhuggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want more diggs next time, you should leave "Quicktime" out of the description...lol
- farplaner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this might be the only time I agree with the word "amazing" in a digg entry... amazing!
- Feldforschung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0404 error when you click those images
- nellflo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love this. i noticed something really strange on here... click town, then click the scene on the top left. (or just go to http://0740.rocketspace.net/QuickTimeVR/VR_urababa/index.html) when that page loads, the first thing you see is a young woman, pan to the right, and you see an old woman looking like she's about to give someone some change- who's she giving it to? pan down to the pavement and see what's left of someone who was there. what's going on there? is it some kind of weird sanitisation?
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1But it's true! Still backgrounds taught me geography of a foreign country!
- MadeInHeaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the site is a wonder! bookmarked it, thanx guys :)
- jbog91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is really cool. I like tokyo at night. (don't know if that's up there) Maybe I should create a site where you can create these things from anywhere and post them up. You can tour the world.
- elf25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You've discovered what we call a seam. These images are often created by "stitching" a series of still images. The problems are that 1) edges don't always meet because of the lens distortion (which ever lens has some) and 2) people move. re> the lady handing out change... scroll down and you can see feet that were not properly photo-shopped out. In the about page, they themselves call this a "reckless project". This is not an Apple, Inc project. They've got a nice interface though with BIG, full screen images. Good work. http://kytours.com
- Peeping_Tom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Apple? That's just speculation.
Microsoft has already rolled out such a service @ http://preview.local.live.com/ . - Isocene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Want to see how the homeless live in Japan?
First click town, then the middle link on the left side, then turn the camera backwards. Those blue tents are where they live. When I was there I recall someone telling me the city provided those.
This area is likely a park in Tokyo. I stayed in Osaka and it was same site near Osaka Castle. - elf25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You've discovered what we call a seam. The problems are that 1) edges don't always meet because of the lens distortion (which ever lens has some) and 2) people move. re> the lady handing out change... scroll down and you can see feet that were not properly photoshopped out. re> no people at busy intersection... simple to do, shoot during low traffic period and wait until your frame is vacant, then click. Move the camera, wait until no people in the viewfinder, click... repeat until UR back at the beginning.
In the about page, they themselves call this a "reckless project". This is not an Apple, Inc project. Too low quality photography. You would not see the seams. Still, They've got a real nice interface though with BIG, full screen images. Good work. See more virtuals with NO SEAMS at http://kytours.com - InvisibleKid, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I'd really appreciate that... specially because I'm kind of obsessed with japan and all that stuff lol
- kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Meh. Thanks to being in Japan, i know that otaku are hated in Japan.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Meh. Thanks to anime I know Tokyo better than the Japanese.
What is Digg?
