- Hensworth, on 02/02/2008, -0/+74The Rolling Bench, why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
- swanny89, on 02/02/2008, -3/+68The writing in that article was pretty *****, but most of the designs were alright.
- EatingPie, on 02/02/2008, -7/+56Lego Building is cool. But not likely to be 23 km (14 miles) high. :-)
-Pie - Saiyanz, on 02/02/2008, -1/+42Where the hell am I gonna stick the gum when I sit on those rolling benches???
- noeyesface, on 02/02/2008, -1/+37"This is basically an umbrella that is an inside out umbrella. The outside of the umbrella is an umbrella and the outside of the umbrella is a small bag. After one has used the umbrella, all one has to do is follow some easy steps and convert the umbrella into a bag that can hold the dripping umbrella."
Why, I couldn't have said it any better myself!
Anyone else think the first one looks like plant cells? Eh? Eh? - ravi7791, on 02/02/2008, -5/+38In the umbrella/bag: where do you put the contents when the bag's an umbrella?
- sundancekid503, on 02/02/2008, -3/+32Seems like the glass above the fireplace would get dirty real fast, probably wouldn't look so nice after it turns brown.
- veggiemoore, on 02/02/2008, -0/+26It's not a bag for holding things, it's a bag to keep the umbrella from dripping all over. That was a hard paragraph to read, though (see noeyeface's comment above).
- Takran, on 02/02/2008, -0/+23It's like the t-shirt says: "Some people have a way with words, others not have way."
- KevenM, on 02/02/2008, -4/+20what's with the poo stains on the rolling bench?
- sougly, on 02/03/2008, -0/+12I hate you.
- iDiggIt42, on 02/02/2008, -0/+11If you were not a delicious pasty, I would've dugg you down because of your signature.
- Jrlac08, on 02/02/2008, -0/+11Gotta love the way this sentence was designed: "The designer with his design is not only encouraging revolutionary designs but also setting an example for the whole world."
- grumpyrain, on 02/03/2008, -0/+10Mate sneaks up behind you and gives it a quick wind, breaks you neck. cue lawsuit.
- HenvY, on 02/02/2008, -1/+9Yeah, what the hell. I think he meant 230 metres...
- 13thfloor, on 02/03/2008, -0/+7Great way to get the homeless guys off the bench too...
- AxeSwinger, on 02/03/2008, -0/+7However, using that umbrella design is a great way to begin your mold farming career.
- Unless, on 02/03/2008, -0/+7This is why we can't have nice things.
- stalefries, on 02/02/2008, -0/+7I bet he added some zeroes by accident.
- DaleoftheUK, on 02/02/2008, -4/+10Yes, yes to that rolling bench, ***** rain, yes to the bench. That is all.
- Plezops, on 02/02/2008, -1/+7"New Hamburg Science Center and Aquarium... ...would be at least 23000 meters high when built."
Holy Smoly! That's one huge building! Maybe he meant 230 meters (about 55 stories)? - elnerdo, on 02/03/2008, -0/+6Arrested Development, but this is totally irrelevant.
- nunquam, on 02/03/2008, -0/+5The bench is all fun and games till people start rolling hobos off. Wait, maybe that's the fun and games.
- Kimberlyyan, on 02/02/2008, -3/+8The people who can afford those fireplaces have maids to clean them daily.
- MovieBlog, on 02/02/2008, -3/+7The correct measurement is that the New Hamburg Science Center will have a *floor space* of 23,000 m² (that's square meters of area, not 23km high)!
- twinklyJesus, on 02/03/2008, -0/+4The designer designs designs with designs on other designer's designs.
- TaylorSmythe, on 02/03/2008, -0/+4The amount of errors and ***** was distracting.
- vpshockwave, on 02/02/2008, -0/+4No, I'm sure he meant a building that would extend into the lower atmosphere.
No but really, yeah. That must be a typo. - warrenterr, on 02/03/2008, -0/+3No, it's actually the floor space according to the research of people who commented on that page. 23000 m^2
- AuLKenny, on 02/03/2008, -2/+5Commentary written by a non-native writer is painful to read..
- undersky, on 02/03/2008, -0/+3no, if it's gas operated, then there should be no soot. it might get really hot though, might be dangerous for young children.
- inactive, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3try 30 rock or the office for something a little easy. curb your enthusiasm is probably the funniest show on tv, along with the daily show.
- Markpdotcom, on 02/03/2008, -0/+3"In this case one would have to use more of the arm rather than the hand; thus, making things more simple for people who might find it difficult."
Well thanks for that(!) Its great when people use the word "thus" in a sentence to try and make them sound more intelligent :D
"is a membrane that is made of some kind of stretchy material."
Wow more technical detail I could never have gained from simply looking at the photo!
Awful writing! - colto, on 02/03/2008, -1/+4Fun sucker.
- Le3f, on 02/03/2008, -0/+3What a random and ***** collection of random "design marvels"... just pick up an architecture magazine next time.
- Charlotte_Web, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2I love the fireplace, but it seems like it would be relatively high maintenance, having to clean soot off the glass frequently.
- BTConan, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2Suggesting someone watch Arrested Development is never irrelevant, in any conversation.
- thedaylights, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2I can't wait to use the crackling to rotate the slats!
- BTConan, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2I thought about that too, but then I came to the conclusion that they would make it slanted on the inside so the water drips off to one side. It could be that i'm just making that up and I am, in fact, going crazy, but either way works for me.
- ytsrc, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2well, we kinda liked the fireplace but after conferring we all agree (sammie, ey, and jay whitlow) that the soot problem, as mentioned above, would make this thing pretty nasty looking. I guess with gas logs maybe it's practical but here in the country in kansas we depend on our woodstove to take care of us. no blizzards yet this year!
- sgtbutterscotch, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2What was that first picture for?
- mikes1, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2Wow. A 23 kilometer high aquarium (very many times higher than the world's current tallest building), and a fireplace with a glass chimney (with no explanation of how soot doesn't defeat the intent after the first fire).
Buried as inaccurate. A "design marvel" has to at least work for it's intended purpose. - KingGorilla, on 02/03/2008, -1/+3in your pants duh
- iceeagle, on 02/03/2008, -0/+2Bizarre? Marvels? Now there's 467 seconds of my life I am never getting back
- inactive, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1Go away now.
- inactive, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1This isnt design.
- BTConan, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1If you really feel like being a jerk you could go out while it's raining and crank the bench so that both sides get wet.
- usbserial, on 02/03/2008, -2/+3I wouldn't call any of them "marvels"... the umbrella bag is useful and practical... but it's only an umbrella. The nub-pen has potential too... if you're too crippled to hold a pen but are able enough to deftly maneuver a nub with your finger. The rest are impractical, over-expensive, and inferior to their regularly designed counterparts. Let's see we have:
A ONE-SEATER car. Great design! I bet it does well in crash-tests and is useful for carrying stuff. No wait... it's going to cost 10x a normal car and will be far less useful. But it looks cool... super.
WALLSOFA -- great. Uncomfortable, ugly, and fails as a wall.
O-CUBE -- Oh boy, an irregular building which costs 10x as much as its regularly-shaped counterparts, and features extra flights of stairs for you to climb. It is "cool" as a picture or viewed from a distance. Actually using it would be a bitch.
ROLLINGBENCH --- Will these spin while you're sitting on them? I hope old people realize it's moving before they spin right off onto their ass. How about a water-proof bench which you can brush off with your hand? Then you don't have crappy moving parts which break after a year or two.
ASS-LESS WHEEL CHAIR --- I'm sure that would be comfortable to sit in for 16 hours a day. Super.
A FIREPLACE --- What, are we living in the 1800s? Oh and don't worry... I'm sure there is no fire hazard here and putting out that fire is a breeze. Oh wait, ash will fly all over the room rather than against a back wall? Right. But it is aesthetically pleasing.
Looking cool and being "design marvels" are two very different things. I would call these "9 Bizarre Creative Designs" They are creative but they are not marvelous.
/rant off - undersky, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1actually what i worry about on bench is not water but bird drops
- Sube6491, on 02/03/2008, -0/+1Mihai Panaitescu - Could that name be anymore Romanian?
