- deweyhewson, on 10/12/2009, -3/+33If you can set drinks on your subwoofer while you're watching a movie or listening to music, then it is not even remotely doing its job.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2009, -1/+24Did you even click the article? This is for home theater, not cars.
- jimbolla, on 10/12/2009, -1/+22Pffft. Screw that. My sub was expensive. I want it to been seen, heard and felt.
- maximilen, on 10/12/2009, -3/+241. Get a carpenter to rig the sub enclosure inside your sofa.
2. Have your girl/wife/lady/cougar etc. sit on that side of the sofa
3. Turn it up.
4. ????
5. Score - EastCoastGnar, on 10/12/2009, -2/+21Mine is too big for any of that. I just set drinks on it.
- jimbolla, on 10/12/2009, -0/+18Shaken, not stirred.
- diggdong, on 10/12/2009, -3/+18Put it in an asian import.
- robohoe, on 10/12/2009, -2/+15Your wife decides stuff in your house? Who let her out of the kitchen?
- Infowarsdotcom, on 10/12/2009, -0/+13Aww...I thought this was going to help me actually use my subwoofer and hide my noise complaints from the neighbors.
- the2989, on 10/12/2009, -0/+12Have girls sit on it.
- robwhite1979, on 10/12/2009, -0/+12I actually like the idea of installing a sub in the basement and then using a vent to let the sound through... Next time I'm feeling super ambitious and have a few hours free I might give that a shot...
- maximilen, on 10/12/2009, -3/+12Why hide it? A visible sub is awesome for showing house guests you're A/V system means business. And as EastCoastGnar said, is a great place to set drinks. Wait, nevermind. I don't think that's a good idea on a REAL sub :)
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2009, -0/+7not saying im a pro at that, but it seems like for sub-bass sound, you'd want it on the same floor your on in order to feel it. hiding a woofer down there would be good but a sub-woofer seems counter intuitive.
- serif69, on 10/12/2009, -2/+9Wink? Closing one eye intermittently won't make a subwoofer any less visible to everyone else.
- iPwnN00bs, on 10/12/2009, -0/+6Well you could sound proof a room with the appropriate materials but don't expect it to be cheap.
- maximilen, on 10/12/2009, -1/+6Hey, if it gets her off...
- TeaBaggins, on 10/12/2009, -0/+5 I've never been a big fan of hiding subs. It's not like manufacturers designed them to sound their best while stuffed inside of a couch. Although the actual sound quality difference would probably only be noticed by an anal sound enthusiast. You're probably better off just buying a quality sub that adds a lot of aesthetic appeal to the room. Velodyne subs sound like Jesus and look classy as well.
- Zoshchenko, on 10/12/2009, -1/+6Is this really a big problem?
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2009, -0/+4Oh we know what ???? is. ???? = Any Michael Bay movie with tons of EXPLOSIONS!!!!!
- r0bi, on 10/12/2009, -0/+4Are people digging you down because they like to hear other people's music? I've gone the aftermarket route with car audio and will tend to crank it up from time to time...However, when I'm stopped at an intersection or around other people I lower the volume as a courtesy...
- driftwood07, on 10/13/2009, -0/+4if the cabinet is well made it wont flex much at all.
- Axeman2063, on 10/12/2009, -1/+5When I had my set of Logitech 5500 digitals, I used the sub as a footrest if i was watching anything...
- mhearne, on 10/12/2009, -0/+3In the '60's we just stuffed egg cartons with tissue and stapled them to the walls.
- mattmeow, on 10/12/2009, -4/+7No, no, this is all wrong. True audiophiles will put the subwoofer where it SOUNDS BEST. This is always true until the wife decides that it will in fact go where it "looks best." after all : (
If you're going to use the floor/basement or ceiling idea be sure to use an infinite baffle setup. - jbird123, on 10/12/2009, -0/+3Couldnt agree more.. its not ALL about the sound, braggin' rights are important too you know, and if they cant see it who cares?!
- SilentJ, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3Look up infinite baffle subwoofers. The subs are still hidden, but in a well-build manifold that opens into the room. The ducted thing in the article doesn't seem like a good idea. But infinite baffle subs are known for their ability to play flat, loud, and very precise, down to 10 Hz and below.
- Infowarsdotcom, on 10/12/2009, -1/+4Any audiophile can tell you there is a difference between having your body rattled by bass the way the artist intended it to be heard and the most expensive "studio" headphones.
- nitrojunky24, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3I was hoping they meant for you're car
- dralezero, on 10/13/2009, -0/+3Put the sub in the middle of the room. Crawl around the room and wherever it sounds best, that's where you can put it.
- Crimsoneer, on 10/12/2009, -1/+3IN MY PANTS!
- freebullets, on 10/13/2009, -0/+2If only the rest of the world were like you
- gaqua, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2"What a lovely coffee table, is that a Del Sol under that $5,000 body kit and $10,000 paint job?"
- bencho, on 10/12/2009, -0/+2Let's not start an audiophile comparison...

- robwhite1979, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1After some very (non-scientific) experimenting I think it would work fine with my sub. All of the bass seems to project from the big hole on the side, so as long as that was closely mounted to the vent I don't think much would be lost. Before I go cutting holes and stuff I plan to look into it a bit further :)
- Csaliture, on 10/12/2009, -2/+3There is only one solution to that problem and its to turn it off. It sucks but you cant really hide bass
- nubnub, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1I use mine as a footrest
- TreeWalker, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1heh-heh he said "anal sound enthusiast"
thats a keeper..... - Zippo, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1I don't hide mine... I show it off with pride.
- kamisama, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1Actually, if you can't, you have a cabinet that isn't very high quality.
- ampdj89, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1+1
- BookaShade, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1keep digging me down. Little buggers. just in case if I don't get the message.
Didn't know people that use digg were suck bitchy whiners... - GeorgeTirebiter, on 10/13/2009, -1/+1Looks a bit like my old (circa 1986) original Bose Acoustimass bass box. Whoever invented this should have received the Nobel Peace Prize for acoustics. It is a cinch to hide and sounds incredible.
- the2989, on 10/12/2009, -1/+1yeah sure ok)))
- weister42, on 10/12/2009, -1/+0I donno guys, I'm one of those "bassnerds" that like extra-loud bass, so I'm going to let my 18 inches of cone thrust just hang out.
- L0NER, on 10/12/2009, -6/+1Number 8.
Don't get one
*bruuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmm* :-) - RocktheDown, on 10/12/2009, -8/+2i can think of an 8th they didn't mention *wink wink*
