- TheCorroborator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Hello everyone, I'm the developer for Gosquared.com. We are experiencing EXTREMELY high bandwidth problems, "the Digg effect" and our host has disabled the website until we negotiate with them. I will try to reactivate and get the site working soon. Please continue to Digg/bookmark us and view us later! Thank you very much for your patience!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+37this site was owned fast and hard. kind of like your mom last night OH SHI~
- 0004, on 07/04/2008, -0/+19it's not exactly owned.... they ducked for cover when saw digg referers and changed dns entries, LOL
their current dns info says:

which basically means "get lost" - hipnerd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20You have the Illustrator files. Put your own writing on an existing button.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16doesn't that defeat the object of having vector buttons?
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Sometimes I feel quite sorry for sites undergoing the Digg effect. I mean, it's not their fault that a thousand people start knocking on their door all at once.
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Isn't that what the Technology::Design section is for?
- Cappa0LAWL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9As a temporary solution to this problem, you can view the JPEG image of the icons at: http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?fd8a0b7912.jpg
We are still working to resolve this situation, and thank you for your patience

- chris4404, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Theirs always one Debbie Downer at every party.
- Powder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6yeah but first you need to see them and the main page is slow as all hell at the moment
- kethraal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"are there any web hosts that just allow for the extra traffic, then charge per kb downloaded?"
NearlyFreeSpeech.net -- it's pay-as-you-use hosting. $1/GB
They run a VERY beefy FreeBSD cluster (I've been dugg/slashdotted to no effect). If you need more traffic over a short period (such as slashdot), you can buy a bandwidth bucket, which can drop the price by more than 70%!!
Great guys, plus they don't listen to frivilous DMCA takedown requests. - TheCorroborator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Further apologies for the problems everyone, I am talking to our hosts and trying to get the site back up now. We will be getting hosting that can cope with the Digg effect in future.
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6additionally some of these really aren't that fancy, just download a copy of inkscape (free) and make your own. Vector images aren't "magic" you just need the right tools. I've seen some awesome stuff out there, but it's really easy to make something very simple and nice looking. http://www.inkscape.org/ it's free, and while certainly very simple it's very useful for just playing around with vector images.
- bikini, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"free"... as in don't complain about the ***** they're just GIVING to you...
- michelo28, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7http://www.gosquared.com.nyud.net:8090/images/help_sheets/Button_Set_1.jpg
- TheCorroborator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Site is back online now, sorry for the downtime.
- jordandiggsit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4anyone know of any articles on how to avoid having 'the digg effect' on your website when extreme overloads like this come?
are there any web hosts that just allow for the extra traffic, then charge per kb downloaded?
hollllaaaaa - TheCorroborator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lol, we know.
- JCowdy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I the only one who finds that as a hilarious and genius move!? Brilliant!
- magus_melchior, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They made the SVG version, they just didn't link it:
http://www.gosquared.com/images/help_sheets/Button_Set_1.svg - tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would say the difference in diggs is appropriate considering how much more useful buttons are. Most organizations want to create their own logo but who cares about creating your own buttons.
- DeadlyBrad42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just so everyone knows, kethraal is correct. I use NearlyFreeSpeech.net to host my websites, and I just want to say that they are the most amazing web host I could ever ask for. I've been there for about a year, and it has only cost me about 5 bucks. I've never been dugg or slashdotted, but I can tell you with certainty that many of their members have been, and they are able to easily handle the effects.
- bill.clark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Don't be a lazy bitch, download what's there and convert them yourself if you want SVG.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Converting a jpg to SVG is like converting from a binary to source code... unless I'm missing out on there being some illustrator file or something
- neflar1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also instead of linking to the free logo's you linked to your homepage which is trying to sell stuff. Link to the free stuff directly and people will make their way over to other pages if they like what they see.
Edit: Another issue. Your page layout breaks in Firefox and looks like crap. Try designing to standards. - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Ain't really that good. Just mediocre. I'm surprised it got the front page.
- wbienek, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Gimmie a couple thousand buttons w/ no writing on them, then Ill digg....
- Huevoos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I like those buttons, and every time I'm designing an interface I need fresh ideas for buttons
- iheartbeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How 'bout a torrent?
- studge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It is redirecting to the loopback 127.0.0.5, takes me to my own system's Apache server. Run a traceroute on gosquared.com and it will take you back to your own computer - that is the reason everyone is getting different errors.
- joel.smith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You got some nice logos
- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Digg would have to pay for the extra bandwidth." - I think they can afford it..
- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1forbidden sucks. We need an alt way in or have the submitter setup a zip file
- starquake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I think that's just lame...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well that wouldn't be abused, now go download virus.zip and run that exe :)
Chances are that most people submitting such stories wouldn't even bother.
Also as far as excessive features go Digg doesn't even have enough room to enter enough information about a majority of stories.
Plus Digg would have to pay for the extra bandwidth. - fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I guess these are okay if you can't be bothered by using your own gradients.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1these can be used in GIMP also
http://iris-design.info/design/web-20-style-buttons-psd-sources/ - ideefix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1so why people dugg this story's if they are unable to see ...to came back later, that's why?
lame - HarryHunt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The buttons look incredibly generic and boring. Plus, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to make a gradient and even those glassy buttons are pretty easy to do.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Dugg for the shiny RSS buttons.
- bushawa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Awesome, I clicked right as I read that!
- SebHughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ha there site isnt online anymore, look what you guys have done. lol.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I made some inkscape buttons too :) - http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Shiny+Things+-+Inkscape+SVG+vector+tests?content=56265
- AmusedToDeath, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Five comments and the server's already down? Maybe they should spend less time makin' buttons and more time looking for a new host.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Well, lets put it this way, it was most like the site creator that probably submitted the article because there is really nothing impressive about the site. I don't have any respect for people that submit their own stuff (or get some friend to do it for them) and then the site goes down. I can't see some arbritrary person browsing the net and being so impressed by this site that they felt they had to tell the Digg world about it. Half the buttons on the site can be done by a complete newbie in Illustrator in a few minutes (like a solid rectangle with text on it, I mean, come on). You can repeat that in CSS with a div and a simple style in under 5 minutes.
If someone WAS impressed by this website, then I wouldn't hire them to clean my floors let alone design a website. - aaroncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You can see what they look like:
http://www.gosquared.com.nyud.net:8090/images/help_sheets/Button_Set_1.jpg
but it didn't seem to get the .ai - zyl0x, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Buried for 403.
- imodels, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Site is down. Probably too much traffic. ;)
