- Eivo, on 10/11/2007, -19/+133pics or it... err, nevermind
- orb_nsc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+70That's great, but can you also recommend some Hungarian Porn sites?
- igyigyigy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+53Many european countries use '.' as a delimiter in the same place that ',' is used in most English speaking countries.
- thwackitechnica, on 10/11/2007, -2/+49Also Good: www.sxc.hu (no, it's not a Hungarian porn site, it's an actual stock image site.)
You need an account, but their catalogue is huge (~304072, according to their front page)
It's all free, though they have an expert option they pitch, but it's not forced and you can ignore it.
Edit: Blargh. Beat to it by 1 minute. I need to type less. - shortkid422, on 10/11/2007, -4/+50sxc.hu is also a good place to go
- Kinsbane, on 10/11/2007, -3/+41Can you guys stop going to the site? I can't get on :(
- deeboe, on 10/11/2007, -5/+32I was looking for stalking photos and was disappointed with this.
- rrasco, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24go ahead.
- floppyparty, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
- Ayavaron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22@arcooke,
If you're pointing out that someone said something obvious, aren't you just pointing out the obvious? - TRENT310, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Cheap bandwidth? Where?
- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15@elevenseven
It's always good to have access to photos like this when designing something. That way you don't have to work with temporary low res images or pay for stock photos. - anonatron, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15@nimawin
Maybe by some odd chance it was a typo, also a possibility, he lived in an area in which they used "." as a delimiter and MOVED to Seattle Washington! - endlessoul, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14@Ayavaron:
Obviously. - jimsf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Amazing how ignorant people are in this area. Licensing an image can be as inexpensive as $50-200 if you're not dealing with microstock. There are numerous photographers that make six figures taking stock photos. There are even more that are making less with the hopes of being self sustaining as their business.
Why should I pay for food at a restaurant? Who would make a business of that? Everyone can make food. The reality is that there are different levels of quality and skill. People pay good money for a fine night out at a restaurant and the same can be said of photographs.
Photographs are no different than music in regard to piracy or undermining artist pay. Because numerous people have digital cameras or instruments it doesn't make it ok to steal or under mine their work. Photographers don't have the RIAA nor would I want there to be, but photography is not just a hobby. It's been a profession since the turn of the century. - rigg419, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14yeah, it's dead already
- Radan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10"7000 royalty free, high resolution stock photos"
Oh boy, it was dead before it even began existing. - oooshola, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Haven't been able to get to the site...but "personal and educational" use? Great perhaps for most people, but not for any professional. in fact, sxc.hu has MANY images that people post that are allowed for commercial use.
Plus, if you need something commercial, there are just too many sites out there like istockphoto.com which have fantastic pics that are pretty much all under $5....and most of the time you'll only need the $1 resolution, if you're using them for the web. I think that stockxpert is cheap too. - thecatisdead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10http://www.sxc.hu/
Another good free stock photo site.
EDIT: beaten to it... didn't see that (but this is a clickable link)
:-) - smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12@elevenseven:
everyone uses stock photos, including most professional graphic designers. anyone serious about graphic design knows the value of having access to good stock images. i don't know what this has to do with being a "noob."
if i need a picture of the statue of liberty to use in my composition, i'm not going to fly out to New York to shoot one myself if it's just a small component of the composition. it's smart to have a good collection of stock images on your computer to work with and know where to find them on the internet, whether you have to pay royalties or you can just download them for free.
a good stock image collection is also good for finding references when you are drawing something. just because you don't use them doesn't mean that people who do are "noobs." in fact, having that kind of attitude suggests that you don't know much about professional graphic design. - Beaver6813, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Thats if you want the expert taken stock photography... it quite blatently says StockXpert on the bottom row of results...
- Takfam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7My office uses Fotolia.com for our stock photo needs.
It gets annoying sometimes though. Anyone else suffer this: Clients that don't understand that when we say "Stock Art" we don't mean "We have a magic wand that will make any pic you want."? - davidcg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's going down! She can't handle much more captain!
- raoulpop, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I have to wonder how many of those "free" photos are original, and how many are stolen from other photographers.
- invader, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"your personal and educational design projects"
Hmmm.. so that would rule out all of the occasions that I would need stock photography...... - userini, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4With a domain name like sxc.hu, I totally expected something like a re-run of goatse...
But it wasn't, so thx! - tristanbethe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Also a good one: www.imageafter.com
- dpinkston, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Damn you, DIGG EFFECT!!!

-better - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It could be that they're too popular for the server to handle ;)
- noah45, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Not every client wants to spend more money on expensive professional images.
- jimsf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@smackhero Re-read my comments. I'm not attacking photographers I'm pointing out the impact of supporting a photo give away site on others in the industry. Not once in either of my comments did I mention me. Stick to the topic and try not to attack someone for the sake of attacking. It makes you look like an ***** when, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure you're probably not.
- xaxxon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The way the site is responding, it looks like they put all the pictures on the front page...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If you're a 3D or Texture artist, check out www.3d.sk
Crappy website, but awesome resource for making human textures. Not free, but worth the price of admission if that's your job. - godofpumpkins, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3some good, high-quality photography on there: http://www.stockvault.net/details.php?gid=22&sgid=&sgid=&pid=6903
- jimsf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I had that thought as well. It's tough to keep photo theft in check these days. Perhaps these images would be safe to use for internal use at a company, but for external use it could open a company up to unnecessary risk. If people are included in the photo, as a creative director I'd want to be 110% sure there wouldn't be any copyright infringement and model releases were on file with the photographer.
- ophello, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2sxc.hu rocks. if youre adept at photoshop, you can fix a lot of the problems that plague bad photography (and there's a lot of it on there).
You can usually find something that works -- hi res, and guilt free -- on stock exchange. - aidenbordner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I work for a company called LuckyOliver -- http://www.luckyoliver.com/ -- and, while I am a bit partial, I think we provide a better service :)
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I was kind of disappointed...
