- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Too many installed fonts in Windows will slow down your system.
- gometro33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3use DownThemAll (FF extension) to get them all quickly and easily
- rowanjl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know people, its very rude to use extensions like DownThemAll. Whoever owns the server wouldn't provide a complete package of all the fonts simply because they can't afford that kind of bandwidth, so by downloading everything you've effectively helped them go over their bandwidth.
Nice work guys...
I'm a fan of www.dafont.com(/en)... - ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that site's horribly bad design is a good example of why some people shouldn't have 6500 fonts on their system.
- kmelwing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jesus Christ. Looks like most of them came for Acid Fonts. I approve though.
- Shova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't want to be mean, but if you offer 6500 fonts for download you have to expect many will want to download all of them just for the heck of it.
Me? I use maybe 2 fonts.. Times New Roman and what was that other o ne? - ryouko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.mininova.org/tor/74682
4K of them.... - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0site doesn't seem to work for me :(
www.1001fonts.com and www.dafont.com/en/ are two of my favorite font sites.
I do wish you could download them all at once, but then again, why would you want that. I am sure you don't want every single font you download. I don't need Windows to be any slower as it is, lol. - madcat87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have 4962 fonts in my linux box.It is not slow.
- esac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I simply want a nice monospaced font which has a 0 with a slash through it to distinguish it from an O. As well, I want a lowercase 'a' (sort of like the first 'a' on the list of free fonts). If anybody can point me to something like that, I could die a happy man.
- horar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would really like to find just one good unicode font.
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How have we managed without 6500 fonts?
- cryptocom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg dugg.
- lowtrak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recommend using ATM or Suitcase instead of loading all the fonts into Windows directly. They work well without slowing Windows.
- ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've always found it strangely amusing why there should be so many fonts for Windows when the vast majority of design work occurs on Macs.
Odd... - zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Friends don't let friends use TrueType. Real designers use OpenType :)
Oh sorry about you Postscript guys, times they are a changin'
(I'm an InDesign trainer) - dudup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would be nice to have a .zip containing all of them...
- linus7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First time I clicked the link...got an error page. Tried again and worked...hmmm
- sudoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0don't underestimate the power of classic fonts. they come with your computer for a reason. many of these fonts aren't that readable. they're mostly good if you want to design an indie poster or flier for something.
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cheers... I used to use http://www.1001freefonts.com
None of these sites seem to offer a single download to download all the fonts at once. - MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah i think its down :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would imagine installing 6500 fonts on one machine would slow any operating system down.
- l124rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I already have 5400 Fonts... my computer only runs slow when I start GIMP. We'll see what happens after I download these ~_^
- soapycub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who installs every single font they own anyway? -- haven't you heard of font managers?
- joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Having 6500 fonts is like having 6500 pairs of pants. You only need a handful of each to be stylish.
- dizzledaking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@schwit
absolutely correct - Dynamoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty much the same as http://www.fontadelic.com/fonts.php?letter=a&start=1
This is just a trick by an SEO site to get traffic and link authority. I don't think it's anything to do with the story submitter though, but basically the whole thing is just a cheap lash-up. - PrezKennedy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have the fonts Windows XP came with, and barely use most of those. Why bother with 6500 more?
- bmw@, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But can you use them with AJAX?
:-) - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We can download MALLs now? OMG!
- qball15j, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That site has been in my web design resource bookmarks for a while, great resource!
+Digg - duder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Times New Roman and Courier New get the job done just fine.
- BullMann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am getting 'Service Unavailable Page'
- ptknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It doesnt have Interstate font :-(
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where are the pixel fonts?!
- Decimal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone already mentioned the free FontHit for windows, but for Mac users (who don't like Font Book), there is Linotype's FontExplorer X:
http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX - jj555298, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would hate to see someone install too many of those...
- billmarrs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm getting "Service Unavailable" for the link at the moment. :-(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good link. I bought one of those font cd's at Best Buy once, maybe it was Staples, I dunno. Anyways about half of them were unusable, they would turn like 35 degrees to the right, and I really don't think they were supposed to look that way. It wasn't the italicized versions either. In other words, be wary when buying font cds, especially when you can get them for free on websites such as this. Also be sure to get a font manager, there are free ones, no point in having thousands installed at once. They make browsing and choosing a font easier too, than some drop down list in the program you're using.
- nzeeshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0be careful if you download and install all fonts. The applications (Photoshop or Illustrator) read all the fonts when loading up. Expect a longer loading time for these applications.
- danguer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wget -r --accept *.ttf --relative http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html
So you can get all the fonts =) - vfilby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Garbage indeed!
Just because you can have 6500 fonts doesn't mean you need them! If you don't believe me, just wait and see how many you use after a month or two. - innate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even if you can install them all without slowing down your system, why would you? Pros install/uninstall fonts as needed because it would be a waste of time to scroll through 6,500 items every time you need to pick a font in Illustrator.
- peek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0downloading 6500 fonts at once is the stupids thing you could do. you will never ever be able to sort the bad seeds out. do it like pros do it: pick one at a time, otherwise you dont know what you actually have (if you do need a new one that is). just collecting them i stupid.
- sonyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually run a free font site called www.FontPile.com, it seriously has over 25,000 free fonts. No BS. No Ads. I collected alot of the fonts from way back then when I used to work for a software computer that licensed out the fonts. I am not trying to promote..just wanted to share since I saw this topic.
- bunzai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg effect...
- SunSpirit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really lots of interesting fonts, very useful site.
- Stellar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This one kicks ass and there are no pop ups..... www.urbanfonts.com
- charlesmister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for the tip about downthemall even if it does cause bandwidth problems!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I just wget'd the whole domain. easier to sort through the fonts locally than page by page on their site.
