good job. - jackalco, on 11/09/2008, -3/+35Definitely worth it to scroll through all of them even if you don't look that long at anyone in particular.
- MacroDaemon, on 11/10/2008, -2/+27Half of these pics are celebrating artificial light, or how we've managed to take away the wonders of the true night.
These might be beautiful, but they pale in comparison to the wonders seen in true darkness on a cloudless night. - Falldog, on 11/10/2008, -4/+26Can I be a egotistical bastard and throw one of mine into the mix as well? lol http://www.flickr.com/photos/mt_falldog/3009220405 ...
Everyone who looks at these and wonders how to do so, it's not so hard, even possible with most point and shoot cameras (even if they end up a bit noisy). The important part is to use a tripod or some other sort of solid base, even the slightest shake can show up during an extended exposure. Just set your camera to manual (or one of the priority modes) and shift the exposure setting till you come up with something to your liking. - vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -3/+18As usual, another great article by Smashing magazine. Kudos on keeping it all on one page, something other online publications should think about doing more often.
- theskillwithin, on 11/10/2008, -4/+17I was drunk and read: 60 beautiful examples of night pornography. my bad =D
- cr3ative, on 11/10/2008, -0/+10Mind if I go with the trend and throw one of my recent photos in?

Took three nights to get this one correct. It was huge fun. :) - ToRoE, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8wow, that's horrible.
the light is way to bright and there is nothing else interestingabout the photo.. - jmariuskl, on 11/10/2008, -1/+9...and it is all on one page. Thank you.
- Falldog, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8I'm just trying to provide a general perspective on where people should start. 99% of prospectives aren't looking to capture birds in motion at night and drop $$$ on a fast telephoto. Also you don't necessarily need a zoom to capture sleeping birds from a far when you could just get closer.
There's nothing wrong with taking lots of photos, especially when your camera is digital. Experimentation is a good thing. - tdilworth, on 11/10/2008, -2/+8way to go champ
- tsitneics, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5I clicked on the title thinking it read: 60 Beautiful Examples of Night Pornography.

- FrozenGonad, on 11/10/2008, -1/+6I wasn't drunk and I thought it said the same thing. Wasn't I *****.
- xsidekick409, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5I disagree, just because it is not natural light does not mean it is any less beautiful. Artificial light is now a necessity, our society could probably learn to function without it, but that transition period would take a very long time and many major sacrifices would have to be made. Although it is man made, it is just as important to us now as natural light. While cloudless nights with a full moon are beautiful, it isn't better than artificial light by default.
- Games4Life, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4All on one page = DUGG.
- mufffin, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4Totally agreed. Photography fail.
- somedudemanguy, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5I am so set for wallpaper for a while.
- dumass4u, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4Some are pure crap, such as this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/gafferbee/428283033/ and all the rest taken inside a vehical. Oooooh headlights!
- footfwd, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5Mmm yes and no.
In certain instances like the bird against the sun or moon you need a long 200-500 mm telephoto lens, and if you want it to be sharp and the birds to have no motion you need a very expensive lens that stops down to 2.8.
The big difference between your point and shoots and these shots is the lens quality. But yes you could put your average point and shoot on a tripod and take most of these, it would be better if you know what your doing on manual, otherwise you will be taking a lot of photos. - wint3rx, on 11/10/2008, -2/+5Wow these are awesome. I wish they were high-res for wallpaper purposes. Great find.

- Falldog, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Trial and error is both fun an immensely aggravating.
- xsidekick409, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3As a photographer, I agree. It is certainly not hard to take pictures at night. You just set up your camera and hit the button, and BAM, you've got yourself some photography.
- daridave, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2You're drunk and didn't even make one spelling error [except for caps] ? LIES!!!

- Falldog, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Damn, you're lucky to have a friend with a pilots license
- bear90039, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2It's interesting, the way the crescent moon hangs in front of the steeple. That's a very difficult shot.
- theadvinci, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Amazing...
- xsidekick409, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2In response to your first point, there are many, many places you can find natural moonlight without light pollution. In terms of long exposure photography or astronomy (almost wrote astrology), its hard to find places without light pollution, but in terms of the naked eye, there are many.
