- Unicyclelarry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11A good rule of thumb: Determine what a 14 year old girl would do to her myspace account and do the exact opposite.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10i agree. maybe the target audience is the bloggers, because 100% (i rounded) of blogs suck. of course if they were to follow the steps, they would just delete their accounts.
- haloevo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yeah, content would be good.
- spudge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Call to action: Rarely seen, but absolutely necessary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's unfortunate too because dark bg's with light text look so good on LCDs... Hopefully we'll be there soon...
- pornel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh, yes. Web design has *completly* changed since then!
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Actually... I would like to build a webpage (not site) that is completely distorted and unviewable in Internet Explorer as a bit of fun for visitors to my site. Does anyone know of a good tutorial for that?
- toddhenkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Finally! Someone writes a web how-to with a real-world reminder...
"The first step in creating a successful website is to create a call to action. So many people get wrapped up in features and design elements that add no real value to the project. Sure those are important, but not nearly as important as your call to action."
How many digg stories do we see in a week that say "The Ultimate, Supreme Guide to Perfect, Sumptuous Rounded Corners"? Or "1000 Reasons why you MUST use 'em' for font sizing"? And then there are 500 comments arguing this technique or that is clearly superior - and any site not using it will fail.
Come on folks - web sites are really to communicate an idea and/or sell something. Too many here sound like English teachers knocking the grammer of X-Men, Star Wars, etc. - djrtitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug is a really good read for website usability. Really short book but really touches on matters that most designers forget about.
- uberism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3seems a little vauge, but most web designers already know about these tips
- tbcompdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It may seem that way, but its nice to have it thrown in our faces once in a while. Keeps us on our toes
- dave_colorado, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3sounds like you've got too much time on your hands.
- rickystuffedpie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is quite helpful although it keeps degrading the need for a good website design.... which I think is still important.
- kristov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0boring. useless. how about we add 'buy a computer' on that list. if that was informative, your in the wrong profession.
- paulchu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0its little articles like these that empower people who have no business designing and building websites into doing so, and cheapens the profession for those who are doing it.

Riiiight.
