- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46Snore.... 187 reasons why I am sick of lists on Digg...
- Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20But doesn't the WOW! just make it all better?
- prothid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Correction, 42 advertisements promoted with marketing WOW speak and fake hype.
Who on earth has time to read 42 magazines, anyway? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19god please ban smashingmagazine from digg I beg you please please
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I wish the keyword "[you] need to know" is banned on Digg titles. It reminds me of Fox news and any of the eyewitness news channels that brainwashes the population with crap propaganda.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15What does World of Warcraft have to do with this?
- waffle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Designers and webmasters who have actual work to do don't have time to read 42 design/tech magazines.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+121 Tip for people posting digg titles.
DON'T USE WOW! - ejdunphy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11another list of things we all apparently NEED to know... because knowing is half the battle..... G.I. JOE!
- rynTAU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think Digg needs a new category for lists..
- marktastic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It is THE answer...
- NessTheHero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't really like all this stories on digg that declare that designers, programmers, coders, and developers HAVE to know this stuff. It's cool to know, but it's not required for us. Just say "Wow, this is neat. Hey, look at this stuff!", not "If you write code you better look at this or you suck." We don't HAVE to know it. It's cool to learn, but a job interviewer isn't going to pull out a sheet of bocks of code or a list of websites and say "Tell me if you know all these and what they do. If you don't, leave my office."
- rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's all just a link-marketing ploy... I'm getting sick of it too.
- TheLostSignal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Says who? I was tested on 5 separate PHP and MySql problems that I had to solve and write solutions for at my present jobs interview. I also had to sit in front of a panel of four and answer questions regarding W3C, XML, CSS and JavaScript for 60 mins. This wasn't a case of my presenting an awesome website, this was a question of me having the knowledge to write code without the aid of a third-party application, to specification and *knowing* I'd be meeting all the criteria for the DDA Act (I'm English btw) but retaining functionality, aesthetics and useability.
I'm 30 and the one thing I was always told to do was Hoover it ALL up, you might never use it, but better you have the option. So although you are right, having a working knowledge of things you might never use day in day out is still a good thing because that day WILL come... when you need to use it! It might give you the edge in an interview you never know... :) - nakani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3buried for lameness
- bigtomrodney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's HHGTTG.
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3spam -1
- noah45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wonder how people like Milton Glaser, Saul Bass or E. Mcknight Kauffer ever survived without reading PingMag!
Take a look at something like "Meggs's History of Graphic Design." Dare I say, designers need to? - teamgwho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i thought this was useful.
- taherk, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1I would add http://itdiscover.com to the list. It is one of the great sites to find some premium resources for webmasters and IT professionals.
- benlong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why 42?
- monosyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@bigtomrodney: higgity giggity?
- chrisxkelley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe the point of the "wow" is to get people to read it.
Annoying or not... It worked, didn't it? - 0siris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2its a hitch hikers guide to the galaxy reference.
- cipals15, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0hi! tammy.. i think we were late on this news.. Its one year ago but definitely would give us new info.. :D
http://www.resourcesandmoney.blogspot.com - mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The lists have become so inconsistent too... at least before they were always lists of ten, now 42?
- tammypowell01, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0I just checked out one on their list, the iconfactory and think it is a great resource so thanks for the list! Tammy, http://www.majestictech.com
- gsuez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good, but... it`s too much! ;-)
- Sketchee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It amazes me that a thousand people digg these stories, but the vocal minority floods the comments with "this sucks". It's not a bad article, imho. I think designers and webmasters are fine not knowing them. But "You might get some use out of something on here" isn't as catchy perhaps?
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"A List Apart" is very nice... Useful to show people what can be achieved in CSS, starting from a simple html list.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+143things should have been number 43
- iepurilah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0good list...however, some of the sites are useless
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2 ...because 43 is just too damn many!
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Putting Digg under Slashdot was a low blow.
- toggy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0visit www.ankmar.com.tr to see some nice effects...
- speerross, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Another well written list from Smashing Magazine, I know I'll be using a few of these from now on
- shawnblanc, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Great list.
