- joe122370, on 04/02/2009, -0/+16I heard when Adobe bought macromedia that they were going to combine Freehand and Illustrator and call it Frustrator
- crawfishsoul, on 04/02/2009, -0/+13If you can't get the hang of the pen tool you should keep practicing because the pen tool is an invaluable tool in Photoshop as much as Illustrator.
- Lumbre619, on 04/02/2009, -1/+12yup, you are.
- JYoungest1, on 04/02/2009, -1/+11Vector is the reason for the season.
- Mike668, on 04/02/2009, -0/+8The pen tool is your bread and butter in Illustrator. Don't do anything else until you can use the pen tool to trace anything under the sun.
- pleem83, on 04/02/2009, -0/+8Education is always a worthy investment.
- solid12345, on 04/02/2009, -1/+9Illustrator is a different tool altogether, I hate when people make comparisons. Photoshop is all fine but you are screwed if suddenly the client wants a piece of art that will blow up on a 40 foot billboard and you just designed your piece as a 150 dpi 8x6 image.
- tnerd, on 04/02/2009, -1/+8Awesome stuff.. I love the classic painting one the most..
- solid12345, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6Wtf are you talking about, these tools were MADE to make money in the first place.
- morninglorii, on 04/02/2009, -1/+7I just can't get the hang of the damn pen tool...
- solid12345, on 04/02/2009, -1/+5Nice to see some illustrator over some photoshop tutorials for a change, even if some are a bit amateurish, give us some vector love!
- pbmoe1585, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4I'll give you a better tip:
Use TPB. - DarrylWatts, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Agreed!
- dna513, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4I like money.
- joe122370, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4exactly! i work in the sign industry and use Illustrator 90% of the time and Photoshop secondary.
- Volatile, on 04/02/2009, -1/+4Illustrator is frustrating sometimes. :( Kinda have to fight the tools on occasion. Still, some good stuff here.
- vonbroner, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3Now show me 30 tips on how to buy CS4 for an affordable amount of money.
- DarrylWatts, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3Designers have to learn how to walk before they can run, even more so they have to learn how to crawl way before that.
- trip9, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2It's future-proofing yourself. Most students I know are already broke enough paying their tuition, they don't have the extra hundreds of dollars to drop on a program that they don't even know how to use yet. That's why using TPB is such a good option for people who one day hope to do something in a field where Photoshop could be important. And no, the free trial doesn't last nearly long enough to learn even a percentage of what photoshop can do. Plus, if someone downloads it now and learns on it, when they DO have the funds to buy it in the future, they are much more likely.
- AbbasJin, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2affordable way:
1- get a fast internet connection
2- you know what to do next :D *evil grin* - dc5mike, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2download trial at their website but when expired, reinstall your OS, and repeat.
- realpolitik, on 04/02/2009, -1/+3Everything you design that needs to be reused in different media should be done in Illustrator.
- Philbert, on 04/02/2009, -3/+4It's funny, as someone who went to school for art, and now does art for a living, I never got Illustrator. I don't mean I never owned it, I mean I don't "get it". it never seemed like anything that came out of it is something fun to me, or something I would want to do. In the very few rare times when I need to do Illustrator type stuff, I can do it just fine in Photoshop with the Pen tool and others.
- MSAstang, on 04/02/2009, -1/+2Awesome post! Now I have an exuse to finally start using illustrator again. Love the program, but inspiration is hard to come by (for me anyway).
Thanks! - TheKingInYellow, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1just one:
buy the demo disc from adobe. - DarrylWatts, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1He obviously wanted to do it the hard-way...

- katyalipich, on 04/02/2009, -1/+2Great tutorials, especially Transfuchsian, easy to follow.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1I like soup.
- saichandtalluri, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1Nice stuff
- Antialias, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1If you can't afford it you don't need it. There are a ton of free apps that do 80-90% of what photoshop and illustrator do. If you're a student you get a huge discount to learn the apps. If you get an internship job you can learn them there. Not really any reason to pirate these apps.

- theOster, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1i can't believe you like money too. we're gonna be friends.
- webolutions, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0Really great tips! We will definitely find it useful when producing logos for our clients!
- theOster, on 04/02/2009, -1/+1AutoCAD is my Illustrator.
- logostudies, on 04/07/2009, -0/+0That's a cool collection. It was really useful for me, thanks!

http://www.agentspro1.com/dir - Vulphaestion, on 04/02/2009, -8/+3@crawfishsoul No, it's not. You can't do anything in Illustrator without it, basically. However I can do many things within Photoshop without it.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -6/+1Question: Will the time needed in learning these new skills make you any more money?
Answer: No - TheKingInYellow, on 04/02/2009, -10/+1if you can't 'get the hang of the pen tool' you should give up and go back to photoshop where you belong.
- Kali92, on 04/02/2009, -12/+0If I can afford ADobe Illustrator, would use this stuff to the max! Mess with the gradient colors.
