- ifonly, on 01/18/2009, -5/+20How much did you have to pay to get this on the front page?
- justinlarsen, on 01/18/2009, -2/+16I can't trust a logo book that has a ***** design/logo for the cover. Only about two of them look like they are worth a damn. You can't judge a book by its cover, unless its a design book.
Not to mention the whole site is just an amazon affiliate member trying to make a buck. - jetboyterp, on 01/18/2009, -0/+8That's what I thought too...btw What IS with all the Lego-love on Digg these days? I don't get it...

- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -3/+9I'm still waiting for a coffee table book about coffee tables.... that conveniently folds into a coffee table.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -3/+8A page filled with Amazon referral links. Buried as spam.
- Coestar, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5I don't think there is anything wrong with seeking inspiration, but personally, I find it harder to create something completely original and new after getting someone else's ideas in my head.
- AdamWest2122, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4It is truly sad that an insightful comment such as this is getting buried. I guess no one on digg has ever used LOGO, well none but two it seems.
- Soval, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5I see what you did there.

- CreamyGoodness, on 01/18/2009, -3/+6Dammit - I thought it said 30 must have Lego books. Doh!
- moothemagiccow, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3I've looked at the big book of logos, one of my old bosses owned it. Do you know what it is? A big book full of logos. Barely any writing if I recall correctly. Dumb.
- ImADharmaBum, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3THAT'S RIGHT, DIGG ME DOWN! I SPIT ON YOUR FALSE LOGO GODS AND I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL! MAY YOU DIE TRYING TO FELLATE A NIKE SWOOSH! MAY YOUR CHILDREN HAVE PEANUT ALLERGIES BUT BE LURED BY THE SIREN CALL OF NEXT GEN MR. PEANUT RELATED MARKETING! MAY YOUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN BE CRUSHED BY A GIANT OBAMA-RIPPING OFF PEPSI LOGO! FFFFFUUUUUCCKKK YOU!
- syntaxgs, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2How can u even use the logos if they are already taken? LMAO
- souLLy, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Buried, this is a list of Amazon affiliate links.
The Los Logos series is okay but you pay to get in it, so the quality in there varies wildly. The rest I'd hardly bother with, seems as though someone searched for "Logo" on Amazon and thought that constituted a blog post.
And seriously No Logo there? do they even know what that book is? No books from Pentagram? - newbill123, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Nifty reference to the LOGO educational computer language famous for "turtle" graphics. It's what I thought of first as well when I saw the article title.
But you would have been made a more solid impression with a spiral or fractal pattern; a simple four sided box will undoubtedly bear the scorn of designers everywhere. :-) - ewarner, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2While I agree that a handful of those books are either great repositories of successful logos or contain valuable insight to branding design, I feel like there was no thought put into this list. They just took 30 popular logo books and put them on a page with no explanation. Nothing gained by this that couldn't be gotten by browsing the design section at your local bookstore. Why does every "Top X Whatever" list on the internet get dugg?
And the "Big Book of Logos" series really isn't that great. It's a "big book" because they just accept any logo submitted until they have enough to fill 400 pages, then they publish another one. - chriscalifornia, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1I read that as "30 Must Have Lego Books" and I got all excited =/
- moothemagiccow, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Designing web usability by Jakob Nielsen is the best web book I've read and it has an incredibly simple cover. No fancy fonts, no blurbs or pictures, just the author and the title set on separate colors.
- LittleFishChan, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1I don't need even ONE logo book... why would I need 30?
- marciot, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Reminds me of another similar moment I had at work not to long ago. I received an email from the HR lady at our office titled "New hires!" I cringed at an unwelcome thought, but upon further reflection, I realized it concerned some new employees. And at that moment, it dawned on me I spend to much time on the net.
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1like so many tree-waster "graphic design" rags that print things unfit to pop zits with...well said
- catalystmotive, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1why buy logo books when there's tons of inspiration and creative output on the internet?
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1"No! 'Tis where I go to find silly pictures of seals" is win...DAS IST ALLES!!!
- milarepa, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I want to be in Los Logos so bad it hurts.
- RudolfDiesel, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I thought it said "Lego Books" or maybe 'Lego Bricks" Bummer.
- solid12345, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1My apologies then, I seriously thought you were on acid with your post.
- marciot, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I first thought it was "lego", then I noticed it wasn't. So then I thought it was "Logo", the programming language -- how odd it is that there were so many books about an obsolete language that I hadn't heard about in years! I then noticed it wasn't that either, and at that moment, it dawned on me how much of a nerd I am!
- trademork, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Because everybody knows the more books about logos you own, the better logo designer you are.
- Darkside2984, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Oh boy that's useful.
- AlbinoRaven, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1LOGO is a programming language used at one time to teach kids how to program during the 80's. I misconstrued the headline as a technology feature. Instead it was some art fag yaking about great books for kids to do useless things for logo's books. Not logo books.
The submitter is a moron and I got caught in my unreasonable expectation that people understand grammar and know how to use an apostrophe. Probably why big picture books appeal to him or her. The dumb ***** is unable to write. - highplains66, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1niiiice, I love logos, they help corporations lie and thats what advertising is all about
- solid12345, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1What is your idea of a good cover, web 2.0 gloss, vines, circles, grungy type?
- dojonz, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1Number 11 - 'No Logo' is not a book about logo design... there isn't a single logo in it! - Hack researcher.
- solid12345, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1God, tell me about it, the Big Book of Logos will throw any mom and pop restaurant logo in there no matter how bad or cliche it is.
- DJRobX, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1Concur. *Sigh* ... to be an aging geek.
- solid12345, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I usually try not to insult people on digg, but god...that was a ***** dumb statement. Programming logos, wtf?!
- seanansari, on 01/28/2009, -0/+0Worth having it in my bookmarks list for future use ..thanks mate
- Spacejack, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0As they have been, since the invention of golf.
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -2/+2I see what you did there sees what you did there
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -1/+1do yourself a huge favor and simply take a walk outside and look, you don't need all that crap, just find something you like and that says what you're trying to say in any language. good luck!
- pr3vje, on 01/19/2009, -0/+0Really love Dos Logos
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0Helvetica — Homage to a Typeface
Nike swoosh was a "happy accident" accomplished by a person with no significant design experience.
Those aggrego-books are indeed nice for coffee table, but it is also helpful to get books about specific designers: Michael Poynor, Milton Glazer ("I <3 NY", starbucks") and the like. Putting the design process in the context of the designer's choices and methods is often more instructive than seeing millions of "results". Ty for the post. - thespice, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0natural progression for an over mediatized generation is to revert to the sensible pleasures of infancy?
toys for grownups are very popular. - Vawx, on 01/18/2009, -1/+0Thirty? I think one should suffice.
- jggube, on 01/18/2009, -4/+2"Really Good Logos Explained" was a very interesting read and great eye-candy on your coffee table.
- thespice, on 01/18/2009, -2/+0logos..."trying to make a buck"...lol
They are only worth a damn if you have no idea what you're going to do with that new CS3 you got.
The folks that make books like these might choose the subject of "logos" because it's a fairly rich content-pool and you wouldn't have to do much actual content creation. I don't think graphic designers use books like these for inspiration because the inevitable consequence of doing so would be another foray into the visual hypermundane where basically everything looks the same etc. - AlbinoRaven, on 01/18/2009, -4/+1I was thinking it was a misspelled logos programmers guide which I've been looking for my kids. Turns out it's a book on how to make logo's for your gang, erm after school group for recreational spray painting of the neighborhood.
I wonder if the author really thought kids were that dumb and unable to design a logo all by themselves. Or perhaps he was trying to bring tagging to an all new level. -
