This list is lame. - skribeForti, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10Not necessarily. In my industry January is dead. There's always a mad rush up to Xmas and then nothing until the first week of Feb. It also slows from late June until August. There's work, just not a lot. Every industry has peaks and troughs. You learn to live with it and prepare beforehand.
- humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -0/+8If I wanted to be busy all the damn time I'd get a real job :P
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8As a freelancer myself... If business is dead, I'm out looking for more business.
- jopjop, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7#27 - Procrastinate like crazy by reading stuff like this.
- ben51959, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Freelancers have downtime? Perhaps they should work on their skill set.

- chicoer2001, on 01/24/2008, -4/+6If business is dead it means you're a bad freelancer.
- noelevz, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2Thank for a very interesting and informative post!
- fogbog293, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2saxmaster, I'm prepared to offer you a no-bid contract to implement your own suicide with python
- designfarts, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3LOL - Suicide??..hmmm...I guess that was one option that I hadn't thought about.
- craftyminx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1No, that's what we do when business is hopping, too.
- hello2usir, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1There's suicide. Or you could, you know, get a real job like everyone else.
- HonoredMule, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1If you have to ask, it's too soon. Go Heath yourself.
- Annesgreat, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Busk for quarters. That's what I do.
- vandesign, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1When my business is dead, I simply focus on creating new content, tools, ideas for my websites. Investing in yourself is the best you can do.
- Destinyx3, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Very interesting article that might help me out if I get into down time again.
- DerekS, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2#27 - Write a fluff article and post it to Digg.
- cooljeba1, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0lol
- swirlmedia, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2good work...
- jason77, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Nobody stands outside Home Depot anymore, real freelancers stand out front of the Quick Stop.
- jameshighmore, on 01/24/2008, -1/+127. Get another job.
- borez, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Capt. Obvious strikes again
- binarybyron, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1woah, captain obvious! Here's some more advice if you need to lose weight: Take a #$%%ing walk and stop eating so much.
- BoneStamp, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Digg!
/Obvious - craftyminx, on 01/24/2008, -1/+0"Perhaps one of the most constructive things freelancers can do while business is slow" is to double-check their article to make sure two paragraphs in a row don't have the same lead-in. Meh. And when you're done doing that, you can sit around and *think*! Most of the rest of this is stuff you should be doing all the time anyway, whether business is slow or not.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1How did this make front page? I guess any list that is really long and takes too long to read can make frontpage, because if anyone would of spent more than 2 seconds digging this, they would of seen it sucks.
- theShiba, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1If you don't know this *****, you shouldn't be a freelancer.
- sumGIRL, on 01/24/2008, -2/+0How does this qualify as diggable news? The web really makes it to easy to publish these days, and our collective quality filter is getting duller I guess. Total fluffy crap that you might see printed on the back of a Dennys menu 10 years ago.
- BASboyblair, on 01/24/2008, -3/+0Link no longer works... but then again this is the second link in two minutes on digg that doesn't work. So maybe Digg Links are broken.
- altinkum, on 01/24/2008, -7/+3Nice
- saxmaster, on 01/24/2008, -16/+10Suicide
