- hammerpants, on 11/28/2008, -4/+28They all seem cluttery to me.
- ninjagames, on 11/27/2008, -5/+24Some really creative stuff in there. I find the Kulturebanause one to especially interesting with the cracks in the site and high rising pieces of ground. The great-design.blogspot on is nice too, very unique, cool design.
- Thousand, on 11/28/2008, -3/+12What's wrong? Bent out of shape because your wordpress blog is still on the default theme?
As long as the design is standards-compliant, degrades gracefully, and is search engine friendly, it's an excellent use of the medium. In case you hadn't noticed, the general public swarms in droves to great, immersive design which is why designers are so valuable.
"The web is not a supermarket magazine." "This is a bad use of the medium." Good thing we have an expert in here setting things straight. - 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -1/+8Very creative...but I'm more of a professional looking, business style sort of guy. Like digg for example, anything beyond gets really clustered and just doesn't feel comfortable when navigating.
- kJoe, on 11/27/2008, -2/+8Love them, some amazing designs in there. Kulturebanause has such a beautiful layout.
- CanadaMan87, on 11/28/2008, -0/+6Alternative title: 24 Headers that look like a photo of stuff on an a desk.
- Wag3Slav3, on 11/28/2008, -9/+14Exactly when did it become "creative" and "beautiful" to have a website that's 80% useless header graphics and 20% content? The web is not a supermarket magazine.
Next you guys will be digging on sites that are all flash based and won't even load in html or allow a web crawl.
This is a bad use of the medium. - abteenbag, on 11/28/2008, -3/+8I don't think complex and cluttered necessarily translates to creative.
- h3110, on 11/28/2008, -1/+51. Find 24 websites with big header (doesn't have to be beautiful or creative but must be big and cluttered).
2. Take screenshots and put them on a blog with advertising.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
Want to know what step 3 is? Get it submitted on Digg by Mr.Babyman - NathanielJ, on 11/28/2008, -0/+4Yeah, that one easily wins the list.
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2008, -1/+4No, you prefer the chance to promote your own site.
- censormagnet, on 11/28/2008, -5/+8oh i love this one:
http://www.kulturbanause.de/ - h3110, on 11/28/2008, -1/+4At first, I was wondering why ElbertF would recommend that site because it's not very crisp and readable. The header is too big and the typography is really bad.
Then, I read NathanieIJ comment and it seemed to be true. But he/she could just be saying it without any research. So I did a search on the domain and found out it is owned by Elbert Filius.

ElbertF: What a shameful way to promote your website. You work in this industry so you should know better than to try to promote your website like that. - ShadowofAres, on 11/28/2008, -1/+4Dugg for pissbiscuit
- Natnie, on 11/28/2008, -0/+3I love the concepts - I have a thing for pretty and shiny images, but sometimes graphics-heavy and busy designs are distracting. I must say I would still prefer above-par content to a fantabulous design.
- sdipaola, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2balanced form and function works best -
in my book: web design is not photoshop design - these all remind me of 'desktop publishing design folks dumping their page visual design on the web - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -1/+3Agreed
Even 100% flash sites have their relevence, as long as the target audience and subject matter are appropriate. Promotional sites for games or movies for example. - ligyron, on 11/28/2008, -2/+4Wow, I really like the Caxton Street Seafood Festival site
- Caps, on 11/28/2008, -1/+3Dugg for Caxton Street Seafood Festival...
- andrewrjones, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2dugg for being on one page
- Tyrghast, on 11/28/2008, -1/+3thatindieguy? every day the internet becomes more and more a tool to feed one's own ego
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -1/+3yeah, i cringed
- blinker265, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2i was so happy when i saw it wasn't a slide show
- WhoDoneIt, on 11/28/2008, -2/+3You are missing the point of good design. Branding. If you make your site appear like everyone elses, which yours does, you aren't going to be remembered.
- okyourturn, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2some of those are really beautiful. unfortunately as others have said, they just end up taking away from the actual content of the page.
i do however love the one with the paint tubes: lucyblackmore.co.uk - saisumimen, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1"B-B-B-But that's the next big thing (that substitutes for creativity!)"
Call it Web 2.1: The return of "Grunge". - ReeseSV, on 11/28/2008, -2/+3Some really cool inspirational stuff in there, dugg + bookmarked for future reference.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -2/+3No it isnt, it all depends on the context and target audience.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2Not to mention the amount of people who will just subscribe to the RSS/Atom and only pop into the site when they see something interesting.
- flybeta, on 09/20/2009, -0/+1im a ninja http://boolean.hostzi.com
- DirtyDiggDog, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1Some fantastic design work!
- drugfree1, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Well, I'd rather see creativity on a blog than ads all over the place. I say awesome! A magazine is commercial because of advertising. Creativity makes magazines interesting. Blogs, sites or anything on the web make me puke when there is a lot of advertising. That's fluff like magazine ads.
- scvarsity7, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1thatindieguy must be the weird cousin of thatindiedude
- qhan7, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1anyone else was thinking "< head > < / head >" in HTML ?
- MoneyStriker, on 11/28/2008, -1/+1Awesome headers.
- hakkzpets, on 11/28/2008, -0/+0I don't really like these kind of "over designed" sites, but damn, Kulturebanause looks awesome.
- WhoDoneIt, on 11/28/2008, -3/+2Pat!, I'd like to buy a "U".
F_ CK OFF - inautonews, on 11/28/2008, -1/+0nice resource man ! . Some of them are too large in height.
- omjeremy, on 11/28/2008, -4/+3They are MUCH too large.
- Corbinwaltz, on 11/28/2008, -6/+3What, no http://www.vbs.tv ??? There's is a lot more creative then some that made the list.
- AChopra, on 11/28/2008, -6/+2Rofl, nice
- LANopticx, on 11/28/2008, -5/+0Wow, they give good HEADer.
- Choj, on 11/28/2008, -11/+6Good Lord, I hate Web 2.0.
- ElbertF, on 11/28/2008, -8/+2I prefer simplicity.. Crisp and readable. http://crunchlabz.com
- LibertyDigg, on 11/28/2008, -14/+2Sweet.
