- JonnyCasino, on 10/20/2008, -1/+9Awesome list, I've been meaning to learn Illustrator for a while now, and I've recently been picking it up by reading up online. Here's my favorite spots to go to for tutorials:

- drewhoo, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4PowerPoint is crap. I can do this easily on an abacus. Only no talent graphic designers use PowerPoint.
- lewzer, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3An abacus is crap. I can do this easily with some pebbles and sand. Only no talent graphic designers use an abacus.
- lewzer, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3http://www.tutorial9.net/ - mostly photoshop but still a great tutorial site
- HastyNameChoice, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3wtf? the vast majority of designers love illustrator and loathe corel draw (unless of course they've been brought up with corel and are therefore ignorant)
As for the design 'fault', it's much more functional to hold down shift and deselect any shapes you don't want than it is to have to draw a selection box around an entire object. It's an intentional functionality, not a design flaw. - benguild, on 10/20/2008, -2/+4Awesome man! This is so cool that you are bookmarking it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- onedeep, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Or lock the shapes that you are not currently editing, in which case a rectangle selection would only grab the circles as the parent intended.
This is how Illustrator has worked, and it is how Fireworks has always worked, even before it was an Adobe product. I always get frustrated when I have to work in something like PowerPoint where the supposed "correct" behavior is the norm. - actionscripted, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3You can follow most Illustrator tutorials using Inkscape -- just follow the process and not the exact steps.
- theadvinci, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2I was the 1000th digger... Do I get a prize or something?
- lowtolerance, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1greymalkin is my favorite troll.
- lowtolerance, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1you bury articles based on the comments? that's really lame of you. it's like hating a team because the fans suck.
- thetanman, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1I love illustrator. A lot.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2option shift select with the open arrow tool. Course you'd have to find that in the instructions which don't come with your pirate copy.
- Swerengen, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Dugg and here is my requisite spammy comment: Loved it and bookmarked it. Illustrator tuts are always welcome in my books.
- japface, on 10/20/2008, -2/+2really?... again?
- zacks1337, on 10/20/2008, -0/+0This list is going to put me through AI class. Dugg.

You guys are the best. I love Illustrator!!!!
Good article but buried as spam because of all the spam comments - Dumbledorito, on 10/20/2008, -3/+2I really hope Adobe didn't buy out Macromedia to just toss Freehand into the dumpster. Many of Freehand's capabilities are far more intuitive and easy to use than Illustrator's odd hodge-podge of oddly-named equivalencies.
I'm using both right now, and compared to Freehand, Illustrator was created by the French, translated into English by a Japanese engineer, and then given over to someone who thought the result just wasn't complicated and confusing enough.
Is it too much to ask for an honest-to-god "punch" tool and to make it possible to pull two curve handles out of a corner point? - zaffir, on 10/20/2008, -3/+1How about Inkscape tutorials?
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -5/+3Not to denegrate the sites and the effort someone put into them, but Illustrator itself is a moribund piece of *****. Just look in Adobe's support forum for it. It's not just crippled by bugs, but by glaring design blunders and functional deficiencies.
Here's one:

Do yourself a favor: Use Corel Draw, even if you're on a Mac and you have to Install Fusion to use it. - inactive, on 10/20/2008, -7/+4***** THE RIAA
