It's not that they can't be well-designed, I just do not like the look at all. No amount of "cool black sites" lists (of which there are many) will ever convince me otherwise.
I also cannot stand reading white text on a black background, why do so many designers insist on doing this? Very light gray text on a black background can be easy on the eyes, but not pure white. There is a reason command prompts use light gray text and not white. Designers of black sites also like to go the extra mile and make the text super tiny, which to me makes it completely unreadable.
It is interesting to me that these lists pop up so often, basically trying to convince people "see, black sites don't suck!" and every time I am disappointed. - artfiend77, on 08/29/2008, -0/+3Black is the new White space
