- cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Get this through your head and any other jerks out there pay attention as well. Digg is NOT your marketing vector! If your plan for marketing your or your client's site includes the words "Then we'll submit it to Digg" step back and slap yourself for not understanding the concept. Now, if 3rd party users find your site interesting and/or useful enough to submit it, great! Congratulations! Even so, I would (and I'm sure a lot of folks would agree with me on this) consider it extremely bad form to include on that page solicitations for more clients.
You have admitted to self submitting a page that you yourself created and from which will directly financially benefit. If you still can't see why that is wrong then I feel sorry for you. The only exception I could see for this rule of thumb would be a site that one creates with no expectation or facility for financial gain simply for the benefit that site might provide the masses ( programmingbooks.org springs to mind as a recent example).
Enough understanding for ya? - silentcollision, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Yikes, I didn't expect to get flamed for this. Despite what you may think, digg is a marketing tool. Webmasters will use it, and the potential traffic to gain financially. Thats inevitable. I have ONE ad on my page, which is far less than many sites. I'm not selling rankings on the content, its in alphabetical order. Honestly, I'm not terribly interested in the digg community. I've posted a few comments, and dugg a few items, but since when does this mean I can't submit new stories?
Please lighten up, I have removed the footer to show that I am not wanting to gain from this. - cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Please lighten up, I have removed the footer to show that I am not wanting to gain from this."
Admirable. Thank you. If I seemed angry it's because there is enough self promoting garbage on Digg these days. I realize the temptation is nigh unbearable for the quick exposure that Digg can provide. You are not the first person I've jumped on about this. I have a friend that was bragging about doing much the same for his and his client's site. This guy makes world class sites (deviantart for example) and anything he touches could possibly be very interesting to diggers. But he was gaming the system (emailing friends and such to push up his ranking). We were eating lunch in a restaurant and I went off! No matter how good the resource, gaming digg screws it up for everyone.
Having said all of that, having gotten rid of the self promotion, it seems to be a nice site and I hope it gets dugg up. I hope you consider this conversation when you submit in the future (that goes for everyone else that is reading this who has the same bright ideas). - wallyworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bit slow to load on Safari but got there. I Digg it. Who does cdlavalle think he/she is? The God of Digg. Jeeze...if something's good - share it. Who cares who's behind it, you hippie. And what have you contributed anyway? Give the guy a break. There's some great sites on there. I've always been keen on www.agencynet.com - and No, sweetheart, it has nothing to do with me.
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't understand the "before you die" digg submissions that get on here. Am I going to die soon? Do you know something I don't?
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, obviously a link farm.
But it is the best looking link farm I've seen for a while! And the sites in the list actually are pretty well designed. If someone was looking for a design firm this might be a worthwhile source. - dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6wow, that site sucked.
it didn't work with safari at all - DrMerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not about how successful it can be but how delightful it is.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got plenty of time.
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 worked with Safari here
- uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good to see deviantart and csszengarden there.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would have been nice if they were seperated into catagories, but otherwise they are some good sites.
How did you pick them? - jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1This is sort of a shameless spam but there are some cool looking designs on there, so dugg for that :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You guys, Look at his thorough replies to all of you nonsense bad mouth, flaming comments. He has used proper sentence structures and obviously he has researched all those sites well because if you search google you would probably be searching alot of pages to find them.
Thanks - wassim2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Everyone should stop selling everything. It's all about making YOU happy. Oh wait, that's impossible.
- dazbollocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because it's got "Amazing" in the title. Everyone knows that means it *must* be good.
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What kind of positioning are you using on the hover? Because each hover gets progressively lower the further down the page you are in Safari.
Also, your HTML is atrocious. Who uses tabes for layout anymore? Especially a site that lists "amazingly" designed sites?
And how the hell are these "amazingly" designed? What about the process of making those sites was amazing? Did they do it while 50 feet under water? Did they do them blindfolded? Or did you mean they were "amazing designs"?
New slogan for Digg: "Digg: Where a 3rd grade writing level is cool again." - neuroxik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cdlavalle, this is your mom speaking. What are you doing up so late? And why are you flaming this dude? Doesn't mean his site's not gay porn like you watch all day that it ain't worth a look.
That said, you're all a bunch of immature kids trying to feel superior, but remember: you're on the Internet. This is not a schoolyard, or you'd all get bullied and first off by me, so stop taking it off here, you ain't worth ***** in real life if all you can do is flame other people's stuff when there's obviously no marketing scheme on his site. Y'all should get a life and get laid. - silentcollision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*sigh* this community is so negative.
Thank you for the digg's, and I'm sorry for people that are annoyed.
Firstly: the title. It was suggested to me, and I thought it was attention grabbing. I mean, if I named it "some cool sites", nobody would have dugg it, right? Yeah, its a little stupid. I'm sorry.
Secondly: research, yes it took me more than 10 hours, over a couple of weeks. I looked at thousands of sites, and picked the ones that I thought conveyed the most originality, talent, style, and were assets to the Internet. I have left out many notable websites, and looking over the list, I feel there are a few that could potentially be excluded, but I still feel the list is a comprehensive list of very amazing websites, and I am proud of what I created.
Next, my coding. I don't see how MY coding has relevance to the sites that are on the list, but yes that site does use a table layout. Tables are designed for tabular data (logical), and I figured that tables were the best option for this list. You may not agree, but that was my decision, and I can code fluid, CSS, valid websites.
Looking at the list, I considered breaking them into categories, but I thought I'd try something different, and instead just have the preview, to appeal to a wider audience than just webmasters.
@ richardathome - Try doing a Google search. Google is overrun by SEO'd design firms, without searching by name, most of these sites wouldn't appear.
@ imageartist - While I agree in principle, I honestly thought flash was on the way out. But, from my research, the most innovative, and original sites often made a use of flash. Look at 2advanced.com. It is potentially, the most creative example of talent, and they use Flash, and I'm not going to exclude sites just for using sites.
Finally, you have got me on the "only commenting and submitting his own", yes I do, because I don't particularly like this community, call me soft, but I find you guys way too negative :)
Thanks for the digg's. - KelliShaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Honestly, there wasn't much there that impressed me, and any of the ones that were good were nothing new.
- superpatty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2the only ***** this douchebag has dugg is his own two submissions and he has only commented on three stories on digg (two of which are his own)
- imageartist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most of these sites will NEVER be successful! Flash and unorthodox navigation is a recipe for non-activity.
2 words… Font Size! - cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5The only other site you've submitted is also yours. Lame, lame, lame. Try to make a real contribution to the community.
- cardyology, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Stick it up your own arse, dil-smoker.
*Edit* Damn tourettes. - silentcollision, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I don't have access to a safari browser, and I've only tested it with iCapture (http://www.danvine.com/icapture/), where it "appeared" fine. I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
- rooney9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Well said. Ridiculous title.
- itsfood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Oh come one... I love digg but how can this SPAM get to the front page. Come on Kevin and the crew, you've got so many other cool features!
- richardathome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Its *obviously* a link farm, don't try and call it anything else.
Research? What research? You might have got away with that if you had written *something* about any of them. Like why you think they deserve to be on the list.
10 hours? Do do a google search? meh.
You sir, are busted. And have the singular honour of being the first Digg submitted to make it to my ignore list. - joeli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1187 before you die.......... ahahahahaha
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Heh, websites to see before I die ?
huh ?
Wanker.
Before I die I'd be likely to do loads of heroin, hookers and other assorted stupid things rather than look at some dumb nerd website.
You get along with your life you little virgin and I'll get on with mine. - cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9SPAM SPA SPAM SPAM. SPAM SPA SPAM SPAM, SPAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!! ( If you scroll down to the bottom you'll notice that they are selling ranked slots on their site for 10 bucks a year.)
- airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Where the f*** is digg?!
- tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1let me guess.
15 y/o? or maybe 14...? - silentcollision, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4Its called a textlink, and its for SEO purposes. If you notice it runs across my entire network: squaredproductions.com, silentcollision.com, ultimateuploader.com, and ultimatevideotutorials.com. I might make about $2 for this page, and considering I spent about 10 hours total on it, I think I deserve it. The textlinks are completely irrelevant to the list of design sites, and ONLY reflect the links just above it in the footer, outside the main content. Not the design links.
Don't question my motives, and try understand things before you comment.
