- WitaC, on 08/26/2008, -1/+9you get to a pretty dark place most of the time...or a place without too many moving lights and....leave your shutter open for an extended period of time. Thats how the picture with all the lightning (like 30 bolts) i mean, thats not exact, but thats the principle
- dvsbastard, on 08/26/2008, -0/+7"In the wet season, when my house lies at the eye of a particularly savage thunderstorm storm, lightning all around and power out, i like to masturbate - it makes me feel like i am thor."
/bash quote - lazyslacker, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5I usually don't do this but here's a few I took; They aren't really better than these but I'm kind of proud of them

http://www.dogguie.com/espectaculares-imagenes-tor ... - schwab002, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4yes, which is why most of these photos aren't as amazing as they look. Those lightning strikes were not all happening one at a time.
- WilliamAdama, on 08/26/2008, -1/+5Woot I see Toronto in there, go Canada :D
http://flickr.com/photos/wvs/205482483/sizes/o/ - wondertwins, on 08/26/2008, -3/+7how do u take pictures of lightning? do u have to have a trigger finger? btw, lightnings are cool
- whatever01, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3http://www.lightningtrigger.com/ these help.
- thatspsychotic, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3A few more slo-mo lightning shots:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OolKYIOqLPg - DNABeast, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3Those are nice steady shots. Next thing to do is find an awesome background or silhouette to complement the lightning.
- noobieinc, on 08/26/2008, -4/+7Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2That one used to be my desktop a while back. I think I'm going to put it back up actually.

- theadvinci, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't want to get hit by one of these.
- M724, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2Beautiful pictures.
- ethana2, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Is anyone harnessing lightening for grid electricity yet?
- ar0ne, on 08/26/2008, -3/+4scary
- Tigerotor77W, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1Start playing with manual modes on your camera -- and don't start with lightning and expect to score on the first try. There's quite a bit of patience involved with getting the "perfect" lightning shot.
- khyberkitsune, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1How to photograph lightning:
1. Find a storm
2. Leave your camera shutter open
3. Wait for lightning to flash
4. Close shutter.
Of course, if you're using a digital camera, you're probably limited artificially to how log you can leave your shutter open (Like the Kodak EasyShare c743 has a maximum of 4 seconds.) - blackguard, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Holy *****! It's the apocalypse!
- vroom101, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Here's the original, high-res version photo of that huge lightning bolt striking near the C-130 Hercules aircraft: http://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/0605 ... (060516-F-0185C-001, www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/060516-F-0185C-001.jpg)

According to "Nature's fireworks" at http://www.af.mil/news/story_media.asp?id=12302050 ... (www.af.mil/news/story_media.asp?id=123020502) both photos were snapped on 16 May 2006 at Balad Air Base, Iraq, by U.S. Air Force Senior Airman James Croxon. - Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Made with lightning
REAL LIGHTNING - Born4Surf, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Very Cool!

- sarchosis, on 08/26/2008, -3/+3They're like spiny tentacles raping the sky...but in a cool way.
- goodolboykt, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1I can never get enough of these, keep em coming...I'm a weather junkie!
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1I love lightning and thunderstorms. Well, not so much after working tech support for a cable/phone/internet provider, but it's still beautiful to see nature's raw fury being let loose upon mankind. And since everybody else is braggi- sharing, here's a failed attempt of my own:

Didn't catch the bolt, but hot damn, does it turn the sky a pretty color. And yes, I suck at photography. Tips appreciated. :P - chris86, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1God hates us!

David - http://mygooglecashdetective2.com/ - skabyss, on 08/25/2008, -7/+7I'm at work or else I would do some research, but does anybody have a simple explanation for the path lightning follows? Just curious...
- CaviMike, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1I love electrical storms but some of these images really creeped me out!
- auto_exec, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1Found a few photos from Sydney in that bunch... reminded me of some storm shots I took when I was in Sydney on a 3-month business trip... Funny thing is, I checked the guy's flickr stream and my pictures were from the same night!! However, my pictures were taken from underneath a tree at Macquarie's Point, after having walked quite a distance to go there with my girlfriend (not realizing it was about to storm to all hell)... My girlfriend was nagging me to get back to the apartment, but I had to take a shot and grab some photos... now I'm glad I did.
Anyways, here's the favorite of the pictures I took (be gentle, I'd just bought my first DSLR right before that 3-month Sydney trip, and had no previous experience):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acaruso/65844342/in/s ... - rehrer, on 08/26/2008, -1/+0Nature at it's most powerful.
- OhTheHumanity1, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2*frustration* Why are these so bad?! There was almost nothing interesting here. Buried.
- BoOtto, on 08/26/2008, -2/+0Where's is the picture of Usain Bolt?
- jfulls, on 08/26/2008, -3/+0I'm reeeeeally high..
And I never realized how ***** cool lightning is O_O -
