- abhishattitude, on 04/13/2009, -1/+12Nice designs ..god's sake someone start building them .Till then they are fantasy.
- DamnMan, on 04/13/2009, -0/+6Why does your buttplug look like a giant floating, rotating hotel?
- robotwarlord, on 04/13/2009, -0/+6If you build a living space on th sea you'd better not suffer from seasickness
- PixelMagic, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Who cares? Where's my hoverboard?
- recruz, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4It's a lot of work to maintain, unless they solve those kinds of problems. Water is very corrosive. I just replaced my garbage disposal this weekend. The blades were rusted off.
- fishshogun, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Dugg for design. In reality those are the calmest waters I've ever seen. They certainly didn't build in the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans or the Bearing Sea.
- Jincopunk, on 04/13/2009, -1/+5Underwater City
You mean like New Orleans? great idea! - serif69, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4All of the description that confusing some of the brain will turn out to be a failure for the grammar.
- interptext, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2Pirates are gonna love these things, i didn't see one turret cannon or rocket launcher .. now a floating fort may seem a better idea for the future
- waspbr, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2because sinking would be bad?
- danwallace, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2I'm pretty sure we can factor our out-of-control population growth into this equation somehow.
- wstrucke, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2here's one more:
http://tinyurl.com/d2nlaw - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2Popular Science anyone?
- insanebrain, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Why float ?
- PecanHead, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I like how they made the guy in the third one stare longingly into the sweet release of drowning that he'll never be able to attain from inside his sterile floating prison. Nice effect.
- TheZetetic, on 04/13/2009, -2/+3Waterworld?
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2easier said than done
- znicket, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I was just thinking that. Boat owners slowly watch their boats deteriorate over time - these habitats would never be the same kind of investment in the future as land-based houses would be.
- failtrain, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1You brain hurt my! Are bastard a you!
- grendl2000, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I love the designs, but the notion that rising sea levels would make floating residences necessary is kind of goofy. Under the worst global warming scenarios, there still will be plenty of room inland for everyone. I can see people trying out some of these as a lark or as a tourist attraction, though.
- ikeeel4money, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2anyone notice 2 of those where located in dubai?
- waspbr, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1sharks with freaking "lasers"
- protogenxl, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Does it come with a Shark Tank? (puts pinkie to corner of mouth)
- avianeddy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1its depressing to see so much money and effort going to capitalizing on the "Climate Refugees" instead of going to preventing the Global Climate Change
- nevets138, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2Atlanta.
- random90210, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1If the land is what's worth the most money, why don't you just make land?
- danwallace, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Where?
- RockSlice, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1At this scale, the effect of the waves won't be noticeable (except possibly during major storms), so any seasickness would be psychosomatic.
- SemDD, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1The underwater city is actually a reclamation of a flooded ancient Thracian capital Seuthopolis in the middle of Bulgaria - under the Koprinka reservoir (or dam) 60 years ago. The commies decide to go ahead and flood it soon after discovering and exploring the site. The costs are still prohibitive and the surrounding area is very poor and such an endeavor looks cynical to start with. But putting aside the price - tag, it is an exhilarating project!
- wstrucke, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Illinois
- danwallace, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Most likely because it's not preventable.
- DanAtkinson, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Complete rubbish all packaged in a site filled with bad grammar, which makes it all look unprofessional.
There's a higher likelihood of The Illinois being built than most of these ideas. - avianeddy, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1thats even more depressing, i guess
- dazparkour, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1It's not just global warming to blame - the cycles will see raising water levels and the parts of the world where land meets see is always being worn away.
I'm in the UK. A frickin island.
We lose 1 metre a year. Eventually, we'll run out - not soon, sure BUT, if you could live somewhere peaecful, wouldn't you? - Paulish, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Now I have a way to avoid property taxes.
- RichieRich77, on 04/14/2009, -0/+0I would Pre-order a Waterpod
- failtrain, on 04/13/2009, -1/+0Why does the last one look like a buttplug?
- throneofdreams, on 04/13/2009, -2/+0I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well.
