But Adblock only blocks the ads you tell it to, which means you weren't gonna click on those particular ads anyhow. It's most useful for blocking annoying ads, like animated GIFs or cleavage being pushed in your face while you're trying to read a gaming article or some such.

- Groady, on 02/02/2009, -1/+5Urgh... boo hoo. Flash has been around for a long time and is not going anywhere fast. Get used to it. People are quick to complain about ***** banner ads but the reality is if the same level of animation and interactivity could be done in plain old HTML then they'd be made that way... and people would still complain. Advertising makes the world go around and Flash is a means to an end.

Such a "Flashy" thing to do :p - moothemagiccow, on 02/02/2009, -2/+4Flash is great for games and video and audio delivery but I am tired as hell of people wanting to use it on normal websites. You can't right-click. You can't middle click. It's got the highest install percentage of any plugin ever, and that's fantastic, but it's unusable for normal content, difficult for search engines to index, and hard to update. Javascript can do most of the animation and fancy behavioral interaction.

I wouldn't know, I have every single flash object blocked by default. - kd1s, on 02/02/2009, -1/+2I don't know, it's been a couple years since I did any Flash development. I was mostly doing a lot of ActionScript stuff. But it is nice to refresh the memory a bit.

Sure, it was great when javascript couldn't do the stuff, and was slower if it could, but open source javascript engines are changing that. Can flash be optimized in the browser? No, we're stuck with whatever adobe feeds us.
For a long time, they decided display acceleration wasn't needed (that's why your cpu gets so hot). HD videos forced them to change. Even now, it's only in fullscreen mode, and only works on specific content.
64-bit support is something they have long been lacking (aside from a recent beta on linux), despite vista and mac osx making inroads for it for the past 3-5 years. It was probably apple's announcement that they would be moving to 64bit for snow leopard that finally got adobe to put out initial versions of 64bit.
It's also the source of many browser crashes, and burns cycles needlessly when pages with ads are in the background.
Frankly, flash needs to go away, but i can't see that happening anytime soon. - mrThefter, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1Not even that. HTML5 is adding <video> tags...
