- str3ama, on 03/19/2009, -0/+16yeah Digg may be going back to it's tech roots - if even for a few minutes.
- hagerman, on 03/19/2009, -2/+14Mirror:
http://rorr.im/ - str3ama, on 03/19/2009, -2/+12I miss duggmirror ..coral cache didn't pick it up and neither did google cache (site probably doesn't allowe google caching).
- Meep3D, on 03/19/2009, -2/+9Huh? There is very little difference between XHTML and HTML. What XHTML brought to the table was a deprecation of 99% of the crufty tags and parameters that had built up in HTML over the years.
I, for one, do not welcome their return and I don't think any new version of HTML are going to do it. - str3ama, on 03/19/2009, -2/+9ok having seen the mirror and seen what's on there I can safely say this was crap. There was nothing original about it and most of the designs came from the same sites:

http://rorr.im/ - RackAddict, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6If that's the case (still dead for me) then... yuck, I think I'll/
High Quality, CSS and XHTML? I'll stick with SmashingMagazine, cheers. - Megatronz, on 03/19/2009, -3/+8Mirror?
- hawksfan03, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5wtf?
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5Judging from the comments above, it must be a result of a large shout-out (aka spam-out).
- SarcasticOne, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4It's not exactly as easy as drawing a template on a piece of paper.
- jo42, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4Looks like TemplateMonster crap. And about just as useless.
- sMMk, on 03/19/2009, -2/+6I just came here to see if someone else saw the :P
- foilking, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3It's true that it would be better for people just to build sites themselves, but I find these useful for me cause I don't have enough time to do it myself. When the free time comes around, a custom site will be built, but until then, these are just nice to get something pretty up.
- SmpleJohn, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Just saying, it's a good morning when they pop up back to back.
- str3ama, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3beggars can't be choosy.
- taallison, on 03/19/2009, -1/+3I was expecting some frameworks and layouts, but nope just ***** pre-made templates that should be avoided at all costs - unless of course you would love your site to be just like 100's of others.
- danhauk, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2I DON'T LIKE SPAM!
- phenom2k7, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1oh god that really is a disaster
- Biscuitz, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Yeah, everyone should know how to make a website /s
Then us web designers would be out of a freaking job. - 7aji, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1I don't find using a pre-made template to be that easy (unless it's a very small basic site). You will need to go through the code and edit it anyway, so there goes the time saving factor. However; Looking at different designs can be pretty useful when brainstorming to come up with a nice design.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1What is you email address?
- foolishwolf, on 03/19/2009, -4/+5Mirror please
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1What no cats?
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1HTML introduced the syntax and first tags for webpages. The tags were for style and structure. You had some tags like , and some for layout (back then that would be
for the most part). Other parameters could then be added to each tag for further control.
Later on, the concept of HTML: the tag structure, was abstracted into a system called XML. XML is a way of encoding documents in a tree so open tags and closed tags denote characteristics of structure, and special parameters for these tags can also be defined. Every XML document needs a DTD file that defines what each tag in the XML document means.
So using the XML concept, HTML was re-defined in XML terms and called XHTML. Some tags were removed, like , because the focus of XML based HTML was pure structure. Any style involved is now recommended to be done with style sheets (aside: so I have no idea why they left in and , which are just and with different names.) W3C created standard DTD's for web pages that you should try and follow as closely as possible. These are now being updated along side the new HTML specification.
So when a new version of HTML comes out, they change the DTD that describes how to understand HTML in a XML document. - TheSpook, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Web site 101: Get a decent web host; If you use WP, install Super Cache.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1That's what she said.
- VickersMedia, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Would help if their website was actually working.
- MindStalker, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Technically its because you can redefine strong or em through css, you shouldn't redefine b or i through css.
- MindStalker, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html W3C Working Draft 12 February 2009
Its a combination of HTML and XHTML what it drops are the crap like

Which infact has to be written

XHTMLs true syntax never took off, people simply ignored this requirement and tons like it. - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -3/+3Are you serious? Design articles pop up all the time, I have a big folder of resources bookmarked that I found on Digg.
- godsdead, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1Now part of the webs all going to look the same lol
- andshewas, on 03/19/2009, -3/+3Thanks so much for submitting this article. I love this kind of stuff.
- Meep3D, on 03/19/2009, -2/+2Some interesting and fairly good (if a bit cliche) designs in there.
I don't really see the point of pre-made templates though to be honest (unless part of wp or other cms apps). If you are an amateur just mucking about you'd want to try to make your own - it's part of the fun and quite often using an existing template massively constrains you on menu, look and layout.
If you are a professional (or claim to be) you shouldn't be using templates as websites should be unique, and cater for the clients needs.
They do provide some good examples and styles to follow in your own designs though. - beermad, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1Fantastic design tip. Black background with a dark-coloured font, so nobody can read it. I'll do that for all my sites in future!
- dainix, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1Site is online again! The first time got on digg first page, so it's pretty tough test for every hosting.:)
- SenyWD, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0I like http://www.free-css-layouts.com - probably the best selection of free layouts
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -1/+1Down already :( need to be prepared for next attack. It's just a warning signal.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+1Sorry SmpleJohn I meant to reply to str3ama
- pauldy, on 03/19/2009, -2/+2Love what kind of stuff, no one can see it because the server is down.

is a mirror
However, it is still slow... - RackAddict, on 03/19/2009, -3/+2I love stuff like this, thanks. Always comes in handy, and kudos to the writer for taking the time to put it together.
Now if only I could get on the blimmin site... -
