I'm staying up right now trying to slipstream those moronic SATA drivers into a Windows XP Home CD trying to get this pile of nonsense to install on my new laptop. Talk about confusing, an Ubuntu install is 50 bazillion times easier than trying to install Windows XP on a computer using SATA drives.

      Anyways, this XKCD was great, at least for Linux users like myself, I thought this was worth digging. Of course, with the automatic army of comment burying robots attacking any page with XKCD in it, my comment is doomed.

  • DeathGod321, on 07/30/2008, -71/+23Most of my friends that wanted to be "OS rebels" gave up when they couldn't get their wifi drivers working. I told them how to do it, and even sent them commands to copy and paste into the terminal, but as soon as I said "terminal" they decided to stick with vista. Deep down, every linux advocate knows that it's not ready for their next door neighbor, and it probably won't be for a long time.

      Wifi support has actually gotten pretty good recently.
      • CalcProgrammer1, on 07/30/2008, -7/+11I faintly remember having to do some easy terminal stuff way back in early 2007 when I first installed Ubuntu 6.10 on my laptop. Broadcom support wasn't great, but it wasn't too hard to get working. However, ever since then Broadcom is installed under the Restricted Drivers Manager, so it's a few clicks and it's installed and up and running. No more terminal for WiFi.
      • asskicker32, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1the only issue I had was with my wifi not working in osx86 tiger. It would work, but it wouldnt reactivate after coming out of sleep. Not that the machine would come out of sleep very well anyway, but ubuntu was SO MUCH easier...

        Although I couldnt get the l2tp working for my VPN, so I would end up back in XP. I think its just the little things that keep you occupied...

        VLC will play all your flash flv files without using 99% of your processor like the flash plugin does.

        Just look in here:
        /home/yourname/.mozilla/firefox/stuff.default/Cache

        and
        /tmp

        After loading a video... the largest file (which should have a preview of the flash your trying to view) is your video. Open that with VLC.

It's drawn horribly, written horribly and it is proof positive of the power of stupidity running rampant and the herd mentality making people do really dumb things.
