- anxdiety, on 02/20/2009, -4/+75Who needs a calendar? I judge my days of the week based upon XKCD and Zero Punctuation on the front page.
- rupaw, on 02/20/2009, -4/+66Way better than the xkcd strip on the subject.
- DirtPile, on 02/20/2009, -10/+68Key to xkcd: This is one of those statement-y ones and not one of those funn-y ones.
- zhaojon, on 02/20/2009, -2/+47You should submit that comic. I'll digg it.
- Pinkshisno, on 02/20/2009, -2/+42Just like how when people complain about ads on a page there's the mandatory "What Ads?" comments.
- jeremec, on 02/20/2009, -3/+33shut the ***** up.
- Dougman82, on 02/20/2009, -4/+34Pretty sure this comment is a copy-paste for anything submitted to Digg about music/movies/games.
- fwertz, on 02/20/2009, -4/+33***** the [Generic media organization that unlawfully hinders my ability to manipulate media I own].
- 1what1, on 02/20/2009, -4/+22Adblock FTW!!
- Galaxylander, on 02/20/2009, -2/+19I buy my music.
What? - zhaojon, on 02/20/2009, -4/+19Get off the internet old man!
- LoveWidescreen, on 02/20/2009, -4/+17"I just like being self-righteous on the web."
Sounds a lot like Digg users and articles about politics... - 6shot, on 02/20/2009, -5/+17Now we need to take down DRM games.
- darthvalium, on 02/20/2009, -2/+13someone should come up with xxxkcd comics.
nerdy stickfigures porn. - Archaic1, on 02/20/2009, -7/+18Isn't the money still just going to the record labels who will use it to sue fans though? Thank god for that excuse or I might actually have to support some deserving artists!
- noumuon, on 02/20/2009, -0/+11just politics? try "and articles about everything imaginable."
- Galaxylander, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9I'm....
A loser. =[
My iTunes library has over 250 songs and I purchased all of them not including music videos. =|
I like supporting artists and I like the convenience of not having to Wiki every single song I download from 'FrostWire' and such to get the album art and metadata. I'd rather just have it and I'm willing to pay $0.99 for it. - diablo75, on 02/20/2009, -4/+13I wish my girlfriend was even partially as nerdy.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -3/+12There's ads on the internet for people to complain about???
- sirjoebob, on 02/20/2009, -0/+7This is inaccurate. I, for one, am better than everyone else on Digg :)
- ashgtx, on 02/20/2009, -2/+9Old meme is old
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -5/+10Thank you XKCD, for pointing out all of Digg's BS excuses to keep pirating all of their music.
- sirjoebob, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5I'd pirate that for free.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -4/+9I didn't know funny had a hyphen in it. That's kind of funn-y.
- level32, on 02/20/2009, -1/+6*funny-y
- InThePants, on 02/20/2009, -1/+6I make no excuses, I'll steal all your goddamn music right off your hard drive.
- zebesian, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4I wish I could menstruate. If I could menstruate I wouldn’t have to deal with idiotic calendars anymore. I would just be able to count down from my previous cycle. Plus I’d be more in tune with the moon and the tides.
- derbloodlust, on 02/20/2009, -1/+5It's funny because it's true.. even after I went to the trouble to show one of my best friends how to get free music, I was floored to find out months later that he had still been buying music off of iTunes. He said it was because it is easier and less of a hassle. WHAT?
- TalkGibberish, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4Ol' faithful is back
- chops76, on 02/20/2009, -1/+5C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER
- MacEnvy, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Monday is two days before Yahtzee, Friday is two days after.
- H3LLSL337, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Actually no. The RIAA announced they are no longer suing people who download music. They are now trying to get it where they only have to *accuse* you of copyright infringement 3 times and be able to shut off your internet.
- benologist, on 02/20/2009, -5/+7http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=ebay
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2If you want to support the artists, buy music from artists releasing their own music. They're desperate to get a fan base, need the money to get their careers going, and aren't connected in any way to the recording industry.
Then again, my iPod has 975 songs (I cut it down recently), but I'm willing to search like crazy for my music. I have fallen in love with Jamendo, thanks.
Besides, if you don't want to do much research, Last.fm has at least samples of many, many different songs, and provides the artist information along with it. - Scira, on 02/21/2009, -0/+2http://xkcd.com/487/
- foltaggio, on 02/20/2009, -1/+3Proper torrents have the album art and correct metadata. Not to mention, only a tiny percent goes to artists.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2So mrclisdue, essentially you're agreeing with northerngeek in that the anti-DRM argument was always just a smokescreen for people who don't think they should pay for recordings to hide behind.
- shlebede, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2I'm pretty sure that comic was ironic. Personaly I love to buy CDs. Mainly beacuse of the hole, but that's an other matter.
- northerngeek, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Quick question: And what's OK about copying?
Where is this "big difference"? - TheChauvinist, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2what about the NAACP? or AARP? you got a problem with blacks or old people?
- derbloodlust, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Downs Syndrome* ... and my younger sister who was born with it would say you are retarded for not knowing that. Honestly.
- northerngeek, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2So what model will work, it seems to me that quite a few have been tried:
- A la carte
- DRM free + a la carte
- Subscription
- Advertisement supported
- The Radiohead/NiN donation driven
I love the subscription method, the DRM seems fair, and I have no problems playing by the rules, afterall it's still law and just because I disagree doesn't entitle me to anything. These are businesses making a product that they charge you for, refusing to pay for that product is theft whether they have it still or not- who cares if it's on something physical or digital, you're buying the music not the medium.
The music labels from what I have seen have played ball yet you're still complaining, what can they do now? Go in a time machine?
Theft doesn't require you to remove an object, to say so is foolish, you can steal an idea, you can steal music, the industry has to pay for publicising new bands and want profit- profit isn't evil. Stealing and then making BS excuses up as to why it isn't theft is a little bit though. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Laws != Moral
It has been 100% perfectly legal to do everything from slavery to rape. It didn't make it right. Ever.
In the reverse, saying 'King xxx sucks' is illegal in many places. - TekTrixter, on 02/20/2009, -2/+4I'd buy that for a dollar
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -2/+4Ah, you fool! You forgot to say "Go ahead and digg me down," so that everyone will digg you up, just to spite you and look morally superior. Tsk tsk.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Someone's gotta buy the music... i buy music, go to concerts and buy t shirts from my favorite bands. I download music as a purely for exploration purposes. That's the way it should be anyway, as much as we love free music, it gets kinda messed up after a point, don't u think... some music deserves their 99 cents, so if your working and making money, than you should pay for it, simple as that.
- NomortaL1, on 02/20/2009, -2/+4zing!
- malex, on 02/21/2009, -0/+2Well played, sir. Well played.
