- RunawayElf, on 10/20/2008, -1/+34yes, I too work at a kindergarten and regularly surf digg on the overhead projector.
- thentro, on 10/20/2008, -5/+38Buried for Joe the Plumber. Never has a political stunt gotten old so fast.
- sjbdallas, on 10/19/2008, -11/+43The whole process is geared to creating 2 lousy candidates from the major parties. The primaries force out potentially better candidates by spending months draining cash out of all the campaigns so that only the independently wealthy or the chosen few from the main parties are in the game until the end. If you want 2 good candidates to a series of national web and call-in based votes instead of state based primaries. Kind of like the NCAA tournament: Start with 32 possible candidates, after the first round take the top 16, another round of voting, then the top 8, another round then the top 4 campaign and go to a national vote in November. If someone like Ron Paul has the pull people think he does then he should easily make it to the final 4.
- subversive1, on 10/20/2008, -3/+23The two party system is broken, therefore,it will always be the same crap.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -2/+21because the average american voter is aware of the fact that the system is bogus and that voting is some sort of post modern joke devised to make him feel like he is involved when he is not.
- therealknewman, on 10/20/2008, -0/+17I think we should make them all fight it out in a large circular cage
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -7/+24So THAT'S why I always vote third party...
- SVOboy, on 10/19/2008, -1/+18Needs more crack
- zizzybaloobah, on 10/20/2008, -2/+19The American voter is apathetic because when most people are voting for the 'lesser of two evils', that's all you'll ever get in a Dem or GOP candidate. In the end it really makes little difference who you vote for, the two parties have entrenched themselves in power and elections become a question of which one is controlling the hen houses, and how much influence can they peddle in the process.
- Hoogs, on 10/20/2008, -0/+16I'm tired of people calling others racist if they don't like Obama.
- elnerdo, on 10/20/2008, -2/+17Way to be a total tool of the Democratic party's propaganda machine.
Despite what the other diggers are saying, Obama and McCain actually BOTH have a few good ideas, and they BOTH have many, many awful ideas.
They are both bad candidates. - elnerdo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+13What you suggest is similar to a runoff voting system. A much easier fix, that wouldn't require an entire re-working of the infrastructure would be to implement instant runoff voting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_runoff - miggyb, on 10/20/2008, -0/+11It's broken because people don't consider third parties. I blame the media, but helpless attitudes toward the problem don't help.
- aurorous, on 10/20/2008, -0/+11It seems that each party is taking turns destroying our freedoms. Bush brought government spying into our homes because a Democrats would never get away with that. Obama's gonna take away our economic freedom in the name of fixing the economy. Notice how Obama's getting a pass on the $700 billion bailout even though it's the very definition of corporate welfare? McCain isn't getting away with it because it contradicts the conservative view of free markets.
And also notice how Bush's spying program will NOT be rolled back even with Democrats in control of white house and congress.
Politics is pro wrestling for educated people. Both sides bash each other mercilessly and then at the end of the night get together and plan next weeks show. - aletoledo, on 10/20/2008, -1/+12You left out the part where people that don't vote vote for Obama like to kick puppies and burn flowers.
- Shedding, on 10/19/2008, -1/+12Most of todays government is full of ***** and now it is up to "We the people" to get in there in clean up the mess.
- whywait, on 10/20/2008, -1/+11... really? hope you're kidding.
- gquaglia, on 10/20/2008, -2/+12Easy. Both candidates are worthless. South Park got it right. It always come down to giant douche or turd sandwich.
- WarMachineWCLH, on 10/20/2008, -0/+9While they play the song they played when Kirk fought Spock in the original Star Trek.
- govsucks, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8is what will be left of your income if collectivist government has anything to say about it.
- ZombieSociety, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8Sadly, most people seem to NOT be aware of that. It sure as hell explains my apathy. Then you end up with people saying "lol, if u didn't vote, u can't complain!"
Well, you sure as hell can because your vote doesn't count in the first place. - laim, on 10/20/2008, -4/+12dont bring an article like this on digg. Everyone here likes obama and hates sarah palin, theyre not apathetic
- opticwind, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8What are you, racist?
- Rudegar, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8I wanna hear what christopher plummer thinks
- vtnerd, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8***** you for voting for McCain or Obama. Both parties suck and you're a fool to vote for either one.
- pentupentropy, on 10/19/2008, -18/+25It's because they're not ron paul
- miggyb, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8Seriously. I want to know why these people don't consider third parties.
- bicyclethief, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6Plumber? I hardly know her!
- Gloony, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6Racism, Ageism, Sexism: it's all the same and it's all misused.
- miggyb, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6There's a special circle of hell reserved for spammers like you.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -2/+8Thats why the majority of the country doesnt vote because it frankly doesnt mean anything.... And even if it did America will never change, the people will always have the same ignorant, cocky, the world revolves around them attitude. While there are exceptions it certainly is far from the majority which makes you think, which side to take?
- ZombieSociety, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6"Drain remover?"
"Cuts through that annoying piping!" - CraigKostelecky, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5Must be using Crack Spackleā¢.
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5@vtnerd: That statement is based on the assumption that democracy is alive, well, and working. That's where you fail.
Ban all forms of lobbying and we just may have a chance at seeing real representative democracy in our lifetimes. - sweetbean, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5best comment I've read today!
- TTURabble, on 10/20/2008, -7/+12***** Joe the Plumber.
- tattertech, on 10/20/2008, -2/+7Because we get ***** either way. The question comes down to which hole you want it in.
- wes517, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4I thought if you don't vote for him you will surely go to hell for voting on issues and not for voting on skin color.
and by that line of thought, if you are female vote for McCain or get a sex change because you will also be just as bad as someone who doesn't vote for obama because issues and personal opinions don't really matter... skin color is all that matters. - davidharpe, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Most independent candidates do not have a well thought out strategy for anything. They have rhetoric and a few stupid people who will give them some money, but that's about it.
I personally think we should be electing the White House crew as a team - not just Prez/VP. The cabinet has a huge impact on the running of the country, and you generally don't find out who that team will be until it's all over. They should announce the team at the same time they announce the VP candidate and run them all together. Then you'd really know what you're dealing with. - opticwind, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Wha...?
- jellygraph, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5Hey... I think we tried that once upon a time and we ended up forming a government.
- vtnerd, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5Obama's tax plan is basically socialism. He wants to give tax rebates to people who don't even pay taxes as it is. If that's not spreading the wealth then I don't know what is.
- uselessexpert, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5At the end of the day, the only good politician is a non elected politician.
- sponeil, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4In that case, Digg would be NSFW due to the comments.
- MrOmniscient, on 10/20/2008, -2/+5A lot of people are saying we're apathetic... but I don't care.
- khail250, on 10/20/2008, -3/+6because they never win
- leonelvis, on 10/20/2008, -2/+5Speak for yourself! I am lukewarm with Obama and could not care less about Palin. I am most likely going to vote for Nader.
- slochewie, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4I still don't see how picking between a giant douchebag and a turd sandwich is considered a "choice".
- TTURabble, on 10/20/2008, -2/+5Are you going to pay for the plane ticket internet millionaire tough guy?
Oh, I get to keep the frequent flier miles. - honeybrass, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3yourself, particularly if you've made a mess.
