Unless the fact that he invented a time machine meant that hundreds of years later when Lamar Burton found him on that island meant that Lamar Burton traveled back in time at that very moment and was subsequently killed by the Dr.

Since he knew he was the creator of the time machine he knew that whoever found it would be able to travel back to the same place.

Same with the etchings. on bare rock at the mercy of the wind and sea? no way those marks are staying. why not mess around with the time machine to see if he can find a time when the island was connected with the mainland? I guess i dont have enough experience in time travel theory
