- malechite, on 06/18/2009, -0/+34Superman "came back" as 4 supermen, none of which were actually superman at all. the real Kal-El came back in a black suit, and used GUNS (until he got his powers back) with the help of all the others. not the 2 energy supermen, that was years later...
- kolop1, on 06/18/2009, -0/+34Superman didn't return as two energy Supermen after his death. The energy Superman storyline took place four years after the death storyline. Geez, guys, do a little research before you decide to publish a story.
- palehorse864, on 06/18/2009, -1/+24Probably not, the English language is due for a comeback story in issue #122.
- anexanhume, on 06/18/2009, -2/+25I don't know how to be a man.... I'm so lost, but luckily, maxim is there, coddling me with traditional views of masculinity that undermine my self-confidence!
- rawnzilla, on 06/18/2009, -1/+22Buried for inaccuracy. Hawkeye was brought back by the Scarlet Witch, not by the storyline that took place in She-Hulk.
Also, Bucky's return was one of the best Captain America stories in the last thirty years.
Maxim is just trying to be "cool" by putting down the "nerds." - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -3/+22One Page? Insanity
- rob132, on 06/18/2009, -1/+16I think the worst Superhero comeback ever was when Lex Luther said "You'll never reach it in time Super-Jerk" to Superman and Superman said "Yes I will"
- thegrizz51, on 06/18/2009, -1/+13Can I bury you for slaughtering the English language?!?
- diggduggDOOM, on 06/18/2009, -0/+11I haven't read much manga, but I find it hard to believe no character has ever been resurrected.
- dumass4u, on 06/18/2009, -0/+10Please ***** off.
- mlvassallo, on 06/18/2009, -1/+10You back off Cyclops. He can't help that he is so pretty.
- scooterbaga, on 06/18/2009, -1/+9So the one exception he mentions... you guys call him out on? Nice.
- gabbertron, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7The reason fewer people get resurrected in manga is because manga is more like a novel. Where you have one storyline that might be added on to in a sequel but it pretty much remains one storyline. American comics on the other hand build entire universes. You are constantly having crossovers and world events.. now we know why they have those (to sell comics). Never the less you have to cut American comics some slack. I mean I'm not sure what you mean by "story realism" but to even keep one thing consistent for 40 to 60 years when the writer can change every month is pretty impressive.
Just so people don't freak out I'm not saying that some of these aren't lame. - Elranzer, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7Quasi-villainess Lady Shiva healed Bruce's back and he returned to being Batman. Flew back to Gotham City and promptly kicked the crap out of evil Jean-Paul/Azrael-Batman, which made Jean-Paul (Azrael) question if he was superior to Bruce or not. Did some soul-searching and now assists Batman as Azrael.
- gabbertron, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6I'm going to agree that most of the ways they come back are pretty bad. I think there are two exceptions.. well maybe. Bucky came back which they pointed out was kind of lame that the Russians pulled him out of the ice and used him as a brainwashed assassin, it sure does sound lame but it also sounds pretty much exactly how Captain America was brought back so I'm going to go ahead and let that slide. The other point is that Green Arrow 'Quiver' the story arc of him coming back is probably one of the best Green Arrow stories ever.. so I am counting that as a win.
- NovaPrime9, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6Wow, nothing about Hal Jordan and how Parallax was actually... I can't even write about it, it's that stupid.
- s73v3r, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6He's not bad, he's just drawn that way.
- SilentSpyder, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6he didn't die.
- Tyrghast, on 06/18/2009, -3/+8The Jean Grey story has always sucked. From dating that douchebag Cyclops to dying every week, she was a train wreck of lame. I dont even care how cool Phoenix is, I saw the tv show too when I was a kid and thought it was awesome then as well, but in retrospect she is possibly one of the worst characters ever.
Side note: Why did the Wolverine movie have to suck? - roddack, on 06/18/2009, -1/+6DBZ
....................... - MisterBlah, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5Some of those I agree with, some not.
I just can't feel ripped off about a character named Phoenix coming back to live and dying again any number of times. Some of those are bound to be better than others.
Jason Todd's resurrection was the stupidest comic idea ever published.
Bucky coming back to life was surprisingly well done. I figured it would be as stupid as the Jason Todd resurrection and only read it years later after hearing how good it was. Out of context, I can see how the story would seem silly, but these are comic books after all. - zomgwaffles, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4Yea when House of M was over Clint was assumed dead again then he was "time warped" by the TVA for the She-Hulk trial yet he was secretly still alive.
- zenbyo, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4Agreed. The "Winter Soldier" (and actually all of the newest series from issue 1) kicks major ass imo.
- DRNOOO, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4i'm a comic fanboy so i may be bias
but obliviously Eric Alt the author of this crap has his time lines screwed up and knows nothing of Comics !
He writes
"When a supervillain beats Superman to death (wow, it took them until 1993 to figure that tactic out?) Kal-El returned as two "energy beings"—one Blue, one Red"
Sorry when Supes was supposedly killed by Doomsday ( he wasn't he just went into a coma used up all his energy !)
He came back after 4 others had picked up the mantle in 1993 -
Death and Resurrection
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_Superman
It was in December 1997 supes got split into and transformed into 2 a beings of energy Blue and Red ( basically qued from a shot story in Superman comic in 1963 !

The point it had nothing to do with his resurrection in 1993 ! I think the author better get his source material right if he wants to bash point of entry resurrection of heroes in comics ! - bsonline, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4Hey, you're right. I'm going to go click an ad, as a thank you.
- AlextheK, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4Why, I wonder, is it always semiliterate dolts, people incapable of proper punctuation, who think themselves intrinsically better than others -- be it comic readers or some other group. If you're going to pan someone else's taste, you'd best give evidence of having any taste whatsoever of your own.
- diggduggDOOM, on 06/18/2009, -1/+5"Now bury me comic lover!"
Is that a new meme, or are you (very) closely related to wulfsaga? - Apocrypha, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4"With rumors of a lame ret-con for Captain America"
First of all, it's not a rumour. Second of all, it's not a retcon. It was always part of the overall story from the beginning. The writer, Ed Brubaker, has proven very adept at writing Captain America stories that are very well recieved and I for one look forward to the next chapter in this 2 year long story. Also, the only thing that really is a rumour is "involving "magic guns" and "parallel dimensions,"" That is unfounded. I trust in Brubaker to make this a great story too, just like all the other Cap stories he's written. Again, it's not a retcon. Retcon suggests undoing something that shouldn't have been done in the first place which is not the case here. It was all planned. The only I regret I feel is that I think they could have left him "dead" for a little while longer. Bucky makes a good Cap. :)
EDIT: Oh, and buried for being inaccurate. As I said, the cap story is not a retcon. - s73v3r, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3I have to say, I like the idea of Bucky coming back to being Captain America a lot better than them bringing back Steve Rogers.
In the recent Old Man Logan story in Wolverine, they show the Red Skull killing Cap in the future, and it was still Bucky then, so hopefully they're not bringing Steve back. - dumass4u, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3I know shes not exactly a 'super hero' but what about when Aunt May came back from the dead? Apparently The Aunt May Peter Parker saw die and buried was just a very convincing actor hired by the Green Goblin for reasons unknown while the real Aunt May was held captive only to be released years later. The weird thing is at the time there were a million clones of Peter Parkers running around, and the Green Goblin was the mastermind behind the whole clone saga. A much more logical explination would have been to say that the Aunt May that Peter saw die was just a clone. Silly Marvel.
- Minivolt, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3You should be aware that reading comic books is a hobby and it's not mutually exclusive from other stuff.
I read a dozen scientific articles a week. And I happen to enjoy reading comic books from time to time.
Condescending people like you that look down on other people (on Digg of all places ?!?) are often the lesser cultivated ones. - Poseur117, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Yes, yes he was.
- Elranzer, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3There are Eastern superheroes?
- Minapan, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3dugg for the pic of batman clutching the dead robin, its just too funny
- MOates, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3We'll see if Captain America fairs any better.
http://www.marvel.com/reborn - ironhide, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Wasn't Kirby long gone from Marvel by the time they brought Jean back?
- y8oung, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Superman's comeback was worse then Farve's comeback.
- s73v3r, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2They already showed him back during Final Crisis, so he's coming back. But I thought they showed Bruce back at the dawn of time with some cavemen?
- ZenMojo, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Bucky was a pretty clever way to do it and it kept him in continuity as well a la Sentry.
- enozten, on 06/18/2009, -3/+5i think shaq was the black one
and it suked - scooterbaga, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Thanks, keep us posted.
- Treshnell, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Characters come back to life all the time in mangas.
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2But no more seeing Famke Jannsen in her panties...
- gpageau, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Terrible article. Not that you have to be a basement-dwelling geek to tear it apart; it was just poorly written and researched.
- Ayabrea2, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Actually this is very funny.
I liked jean, not that much but when she was phoenix she was pretty good, she was just to powerful and thats what made her lame. No one really likes a overpowerful character anyways and thats why she was kind of whack. - RudeTurnip, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3The Wolverine videogame makes up for the movie...think expanded story with beyond NC-17 violence!
- Minivolt, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1The main difference is that in manga, each series is self contained. There are no crossovers and multiple authors that get switched around every few years like in the comics.
Obviously, characters don't get resurrected all the time like in the comics where the previous authors screwed up a death and the new ones try to fix it. - hushpuppy20, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Now if only they would give Kitty Pryde a lame comeback story :(
