- palmdalian, on 12/01/2008, -1/+548It seems a bit like a rip off of Isaac Asimov's "The Last Question."

Seriously, you should read it. - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -2/+243The mind of God is currently unavailable.
- radiodemon, on 12/01/2008, -10/+181Some webcomics can make you think.
- TSK05, on 12/02/2008, -2/+138When I read the last two lines of that story for the first time, my jaw dropped. Literally.

- Coven, on 12/02/2008, -4/+84Logged in just to point that out. Great read, and I think it inspired this comic heavily.
- manacit2, on 12/02/2008, -2/+80Clearly God didn't want anyone to see his mind, the server has been smited.
- 2h3px, on 12/02/2008, -3/+80I'm assuming that error message was some sort of deep metaphor
- Rekzai, on 12/01/2008, -3/+69zomg I have to read something, this is torture!!
/s - blynder, on 12/01/2008, -11/+75This comic makes me really really optimistic, almost hopeful for humanity, but then reality kicks in and I'm reminded of the pure greed, corruption and ignorance in this world. Truth is, humanity is more likely to destroy itself at this point.
- alimighty1, on 12/02/2008, -3/+59i like the part where there was fireworks.
- wh3873, on 12/02/2008, -1/+57Man am I glad you posted that link. One of the best reads I've had in a while.
- blynder, on 12/01/2008, -1/+55Digg does have a picture section. I hear you don't have to read much there.
- RaiderJatt02, on 12/02/2008, -2/+44"Wow, an hall of mirrors!"
That was painful to read. - rameznabel, on 12/02/2008, -2/+43Thinking > Believing
- Bub978, on 12/02/2008, -0/+35Awesome story. I really need to sit down and read some of his books. I hear Foundation is good.
- daRoach, on 12/02/2008, -1/+35Wow, someone who thinks Ctrl-Alt-Del is over their head.
- jordantneff, on 12/02/2008, -3/+36I laughed pretty hard when I saw the service temporarily available message. Then I realized that wasn't actually the joke. It's probably better though...
- drmangrum, on 12/02/2008, -13/+45Just like real life.
- MetalHead73, on 12/02/2008, -3/+33Very mature comment.
- crazyhorse13, on 12/02/2008, -0/+29Holy crap, that was awesome.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+29The comic proposed that once all of the earths' entities had amalgamated into one incarnate concept, along with the earths' technologies relating to the manipulation of space and time, this combined entity adapted the role of 'God'. The last frame sort of suggests that humanity is caught in an eternal loop of creation, amalgamation, omnipotence and then creation once again; like an 'Ivan Ososken' scenario on a mammoth scale. On the other hand It's cool to just let the concept guide itself into you subconscious rather than strain to understand it and effectively belittle the authors original plans for the device of the comic with over-analysis.
I for one wholly welcome this new form of 'deep' web-comics. Pictures and abstract concepts complement each-other perfectly. - KingGorilla, on 12/02/2008, -2/+28I think we can form a new religion based around this story
- kJoe, on 12/02/2008, -4/+30taerg eb dluow rorriM
- adventchild08, on 12/02/2008, -5/+28I think we could end religion with this story....
- GregIsLegend, on 12/02/2008, -4/+27***** you.
- adventchild08, on 12/02/2008, -2/+23Wow, the comic left me feeling optimistic for our future as a society. Then I decide my new found optimism isn't in my nature and have to look no further than the FIRST ***** COMMENT to bring me back down.
Thanks NeoCortex!!!! - roosterjm2k2, on 12/02/2008, -0/+20Blynder...
Something to keep in mind. As culture grows, improves, and advances socially and technologically, things inevitably get better. Things are no worse now than before. In fact, there has been a nearly constant, albeit slow driving force for good in the world. Hate that was once displayed proudly now exists only in small corners of the world because it's not acceptable. Governments, while still currupt, are held more accountable than in previous time periods.
We won't be around to see it, but perfect society is really the only possible end-game. Rarely are things made worse on a scale large enough to effect huge timelines, but often things are improved.
Look at history for examples. Hitler, for example, is nearly irrelevant now. He's a historical note. He moved NATIONS to war, he killed MILLIONS, he set in motion a series of events that effected the whole world, yet there are hardly any remnants of him around. Conversely, Individuals like Martin Luther King Jr helped to move a nation in a positive direction. In being a positive change, it stuck around.
There will be bumps, there will be detours, but in the end things will necessarily be good, the human condition requires it.
As much as we complain, we don't have it terrible. We're spoiled... Yes, there are a lot of bad people in the world, and a lot of them are in positions of power. However, I get to eat every day. I get to enjoy my family. I get to chose my religion (or in my case, chose no to be religious). I get to enjoy my life. A lot of people can't say that. Too many people can't say that. The mere fact that we can speak out against the people in power is a testament to how well we really do have it. Our problems are trivial compared to the problems a large majority of the world still face daily...
Too much negativity these days from everyone. Being negative and looking for things to be negative about do nothing for you, for the people around you, for the people that share this rock with you. Positive thoughts wont fix any thing, but positive thoughts in large quantities tend to get people moving in the right direction... negative thought just makes people mad/depressed and lazy, and we have people like you see here on digg that have to be condescending to everyone and every thing because propping yourself up on some invisible balcony to look down on everyone else is the easiest way to make yourself feel better when most of your thoughts are negative... - 1980Tim, on 12/02/2008, -3/+20What exactly do you think Atheists are trying to prove?
- stormgren, on 12/02/2008, -2/+19The burden of proof lies with you. I claim nothing about god. You claim she exists. Prove this to me. Until then, I have no reason to believe she exists. There is no reason, a priori, to assume unnecessarily assume god exists.
- stormgren, on 12/02/2008, -1/+18No, the burden of proof lies with the person making the positive claim. I make no conclusion about god. You claim she exists. You must proof this to be true. Otherwise, I have no reason to believe it.
Anyway, thanks for playing, you're a pretty good troll though. - cptmichael101st, on 12/02/2008, -1/+18Mirror would be great
- wallkill, on 12/02/2008, -3/+20that's some deep *****.

- xGuerrillaRadio, on 12/02/2008, -0/+16I know Kung Fu.
- 1980Tim, on 12/02/2008, -0/+16Which is not the same as trying to disprove something.
You can't prove that something does not exist. - cyroxos, on 12/02/2008, -2/+18im laughing at you right now, the funny thing is, you may never know why.
- xGrill, on 12/02/2008, -3/+19I think god is trying to tell me that none of my prayers/requests will not be handled with that 503 error
- Insignian, on 12/02/2008, -1/+17This is Digg you make fun of religion not atheism.
- torabayashi, on 12/02/2008, -0/+16Isaac Asimov probably got this concept ("The Last Question" was published in 1956) from Olaf Stapledon's "Star Maker" (published 1937).
Highly recommend this book. - Pinkshisno, on 12/02/2008, -0/+15Don't give XKCD the credit. It's more like he read Isaac Asimov's "The Last Question."
- 1980Tim, on 12/02/2008, -0/+15I know exactly what the word means. You just have some mental block on logic.
If something does not exist its non-falsifiable. - 1980Tim, on 12/02/2008, -0/+15I'm an atheist and I don't think you can prove something does not exist. I don't know of an atheist that does.
I don't know what you are arguing about. - 1980Tim, on 12/02/2008, -2/+17You're about as mentally nimble as a day old taco.
- Trax91, on 12/02/2008, -6/+20You *****.
- Chrysalii, on 12/02/2008, -4/+17unless he sends you to hell.
- Insignian, on 12/02/2008, -0/+13First we have to make servers that don't crash after being linked to Digg
- Ranvier, on 12/02/2008, -1/+14I don't see how the last slide relates, perhaps I'm just dense.
