- NoHardFelines, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1do you mean it's executed improperly by the fact that people who already like comics come in to get free ones?
because when Baskin Robins does their free ice cream day, believe it or not, but there are some people who come in for free ice cream who already know that they like ice cream
or are you referring to how few people participate?
which is something that you can help with by advertising and telling everyone you know and even don't know, about it.
it's easy to sit at home and criticize things instead of help make them better, especially in this case... the future of comics is on the line, friend.- jdbausch, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I used to read comics when I was young. now I have 2 kids (5 and 7) every year we get all excited for free comic book day, and generally head out pretty early.
And it generally is a huge letdown. At least at my local Things From Another World, the execution is terrible. I have 2 girls, who generally want to get the more girl-friendly comics, and they are almost always gone in the first few minutes. Even though the staff is very nice, there are so many clueless jackass regulars clogging up the place that me and the kids have a hard time even looking around. I always go buy a graphic novel or 2 just to support the local shop, but again this year, another let down. It actually puts me off the idea of stopping by on a less crowded day with the kids...
I also love the idea, but the execution I've seen up to this point (3 years now) sucks.
