- nickclicker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32Thank f'n god this made it to the front -- and not another clip from some network television show or movie trailer . . .
- FatherG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26That was some powerful stuff. From the matchbox symbolizing both a nuclear weapon (and in turn M.A.D.) and a casket, to the matchsticks themselves mirroring what Hiroshima looked like after being nuked (burnt, mangled trees/buildings). Dugg and saved.
Nice find valkyries.
-edit-
What makes it even better is when it was made; 1983. It shows that during the insanity of the Cold War that people on /all/ sides wanted the conflict to end. - jayhenry1211, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20This movie wants me to rethink my life.
At least the part of my life that uses matches.. - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17In soviet russia.....
never mind
I'm sorry - einsteindesign, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21It's called ARTISTIC EXPRESSION, jackass.
- NetBlues, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22This movie is a great representation.
- Powermac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16This was absolutely amazing. How'd they do it? The ending... wow.
- HarrietTubgirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I lost it at the matchstick machine gun, lol...
- hyperden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Yeah, sure is good to see something with a bit more perspective, even if it is a little depressing.
- Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Way to be ADD kid.
- KC0MLP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Those joke are getting really old, like anything involving chuck norris.
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I can't believe it... I believe I just witnessed a serious debate on the virtues of different matchstick sentries...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In Soviet Russia match strikes you?
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11yeah just like the USA. A bunch of saints
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If the blues had known at the time that that border piece wasn't always like that, they maybe it wouldn't have happened. This is a simple case of misinformed leaders. The greens should be more hesistant in their retaliations.
- robotexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the blues were total dicks!
- hyperden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Some people just don't get it...
- scuba7183, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"He means Stalin. Unfortunately, he wasn't funny in any sense of the word."
Or, he could be referring to the fact that the Smurfs greatly resemble a communistic society
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smurfs_and_communism - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He means Stalin. Unfortunately, he wasn't funny in any sense of the word.
- Taorluath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Dude, how can you say that!!! Did you see that green guy!?!
- rhkaloge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"War is Bad"
Now get that on the front page of Digg... - SirG3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Awesome - this animation really conveys its message to anyone, despite language and cultural barriers.
- KillerBears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5...matches fight each other?
- whisk3rs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8What do you know about the Soviet culture, Shokk, you war-mongering, oil-craving, religiously-insane homophobe?
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yea, even the guy who submitted it didn't get it! Wow.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@elnerdo
The Greens were trying to set the border back to where it was. They werent trying to gain extra land.
The Blue guard pushed the border farther and farther each time.
So, its not misinformation to the guard.
This is some VERY powerful stuff. - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its just that the green ones had poor strategy, space far enough apart so you cant catch fire also.
- GotGamble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find it confusing reading all the people going off about communism and democracy. The film wasn't about the actual political entities involved, it was simply about war, it's basis, evolution and endgame. When you see matches acting it out, it looks as silly as it really is in the real world, but maybe you are someone who can see that the film is a pretty literal description of the actual process we go through as humans.
I guess it comes natural to quite a few to immediately start talking about the political differences (communism/democracy) etc once they make the obvious association of matches to human, but what saddens me, is that once the word communism gets tossed around the only opposing word people come up with is democracy. First open a dictionary, look up democracy or democratic. Then go to a globe and point at a democracy. - whisk3rs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Which makes me think, will Chuck Norris blend?
- KentuckyRanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very moving and powerful. It even gets War going between comments. Just goes to sho why We as Humans will never get along. Human nature...
- rtkrum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Superb!
- Himself, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Give communism another chance. Just because it hasn't ever worked doesn't mean you shouldn't try it, does it?
- wordfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have the attention span of a tse tse fly, but I had no trouble watching that.
- Catch_ME, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats a great movie
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very impressive...
- ybreton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had to add this, even though I *completely* agree with everything you said.
"In Soviet Russia, globe point at you."
That being said, it's an incredibly powerful, moving animation. It reminds me of some of the Can-con animation (Ryan Larkin?) you can get at the National Film Board. Or rather, could get at the NFB before Harper decided to slash funding to Canadian film and television. Makes me want to find "Walking" or something. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And you're not a dumbass.
- Majin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this makes me glad i don't smoke ..... poor matches....
- addictedidol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is very good animation and it has a meaning.
I liked it a lot, so definitely dugg. - addictedidol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You are not very bright.
- darkzealot89, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5But will they blend?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does anyone have any more of these?
- CrimsonAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone light a match...and drop it nto their army
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wImBk5PO9GQ uploaded it to youtube if its alright should be done processing in a min
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hey, that's our mentality with democracy!
- TyPhyter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that was pretty cool, i learned something, next time my sister comes in my room...i will throught a match box at her and she will catch on fire and run away!!!
- mrigor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its not art when its government funded, pre-scripted by some secretary and done on a tiny budget.
- Majorkerina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm really surprised that in that period that filmmakers were even allowed to make films like that over there. Clearly the usage of matchsticks and universal nature of the conflict allowed the director to work around that.
- psylence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I want my giggle back.
