- JakeBC, on 09/07/2008, -1/+57I miss Bloom County.
- cygnus2112, on 09/07/2008, -0/+30Wow... I am growing too old when kids of today have no idea what Bloom County is.
P.S. - old comic?
http://dir.salon.com/topics/berkeley_breathed/ - thegamingguy, on 09/07/2008, -2/+24Didn't Ralphie get his promotion because of a toilet death in Sopranos?
- Balanced, on 09/07/2008, -0/+19Actually, new, as he's still drawing them and Opus the comic is newer than many popular web comics.
- pmace, on 09/07/2008, -0/+17Read the comments in the article. He's ending the strip because he has a debilitating health condition.
BB has Spasmodic Torticollis. You can read more about the disease at:
http://www.spasmodictorticollis.org/index.cfm
While not a fatal disease it is very debilitating and obviously makes it very hard for him to continue the strip. There is hope as in some cases it has gone into remission and they are always working towards a cure. - OneLess, on 09/07/2008, -0/+16I really hope I don't go out this way then: http://darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2008-03.html
- zydeco, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11Breathed freaked a lot of people out with last week's strip, this one isn't going to help things.
- ThwompBlock, on 09/07/2008, -2/+12So Opus is seriously ending?
I was nearly in tears when I opened up my Sunday paper and saw frightening words such as "end" and "closure" in Opus. - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+11You might be on to something.
- gregbright, on 09/07/2008, -0/+10I miss Bill the cat ACKK!
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+10have you checked these 2 knees !!
- franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8If you don't know Opus and Bloom County, you've got a lot of great reading to do before you bother with other comics. I'd love to be able to read every Bloom County for the very first time again...

http://images.google.com/images?rlz=1C1GGLS_enUS29 ... - luke16, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7I for one welcome the recent influx of comics that have a certain degree of good artwork and adequate story.
- cygnus2112, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7And where Vincent Vega now lives for eternity. Although, anyone so engrossed in a book that they don't hear cabinets being opened and poptarts being put in a toaster next room probably deserves to be killed on the potty.
- STARTSOMETHING, on 09/07/2008, -0/+6This one is the best. http://www.salon.com/comics/opus/2008/07/06/opus/
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+6he was a noisy *****. Also, grunting.
(heroin makes you constipated) - franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -1/+7Not to get into a Mac vs. PC / Ford vs. Chevy argument here, but Calvin & Hobbes was the only comic that could give BLOOM COUNTY a run for its money.
IMO, the greats, in their order, at their heyday in the '80s:
Bloom County
The Far Side
Calvin & Hobbes
Life in Hell
We had it good. - KrazyGamerHead, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5While it sucks he's going to stop creating the strip take comfort in this. At least he isn't having someone else continue the strip for him who could in turn just ruin the strip for us readers. He's leaving us without destroying how we see the strip. He did the same for Bloom County, and it's the same as what Bill Watterson and Gary Larson did for their comics, they ended them without having someone to continue them just so they could make more money.
- weezerrock86, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5There's still hope for young people I'm only 22 and know Opus well, father knew how to raise his son right! I agree if you haven't you must read some classic opus.
- EthylAdded, on 09/07/2008, -1/+5Me too. Breathed's third attempt is still funny, but doesn't have the creativity, edge and all around ROTFL that Bloom County had.
IMO, Bloom County was the only comic in the 80s (mainstream anyway) that could give Calvin & Hobbes a run for it's money. Breathed and Watterson took their art seriously. - franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4After the joy I felt when Opus made a real return (not just the Outland strips that were missing so much of Bloom County), the loss I feel now that Breathed has to stop drawing is turning into genuine grief.
- Aroundtheworls, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Here's the weekly strip when he announced it:http://www.salon.com/comics/opus/2008/05/18/opus/
- samcrut, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Does that say "berkleybreathed.com -- washington post scared huddling monkeys" down there between frames?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3I'm going to go sniff some dandelions...
- zippe, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3agreed. the 80s was a golden age for comics.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -3/+5I think Elvis was chosen to be a member of Opus Dei.
- rushjaycarr, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2You stay where you die for all eternity.... Is there any chance of dying on top of Angelina Jolie?
- thegrantman, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Yoda,is that you man?
- crashbang, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Only if your Brad Pitt...
- rushjaycarr, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Example scenario: she breaks up with him, gets really wasted, I show up and comfort her, kick the bucket.
- damnitkage, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2I miss Bloom County, it was a great part of my life at college. Now I've enjoyed sharing Opus with my kids. We'll all miss Opus. Here's hoping Mr. Breathed is well and will remain as well as possible.
- BigW, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2You kids?? You do realize that Opus was first in the comics in the early 80's.
- Buckwyld, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Yah, I am kind of in shock. I remember reading Opus in the papers as I grew up.
- franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Deathtöngue!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/06/Deat ... - clone4crw, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Maybe Breathed will come out of retirement AGAIN...
- Ibox, on 09/07/2008, -4/+5Some lucky bastards go out screwin'...
- OfNumbers, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Seems they're going to kill him too. Ouch.
- PisoMojado, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Don't get caught with your pants down!
Besides Elvis Presley, many other celebrities like Judy Garland, Lenny Bruce, Charlie Chaplin, Jim Morrison, and Orville Redenbacher died in the bathroom. Many famous historical figures, too:

http://health.howstuffworks.com/8-famous-people-wh ... - aurasprw, on 09/07/2008, -2/+3I plan to die in a female locker room.
- BitKid, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Opus has been around for like 25 years or more. Maybe you're talking about the new comic. I was just talking about the character.
- Balanced, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1You probably should have said "old character" as opposed to "old comic" then!
- theillien, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0I'm not surprised that Breathed is looking at drawing Opus to an end (assuming this is what we are witnessing). He ended Bloom County for his personal reasons and I was actually surprised to see he had continued with Outland and then Opus. I was sad when I read the final panel of Bloom County but can't say I'll be as sad when Opus joins it. I didn't feel that either Outland or Opus had the same self-sustaining humor and life that BC did. Heck, I have BC in my daily comic subscription from uClick and I still get a crack out of it.
That isn't to say that I don't respect anything that I've read of Breathed's in either Outland or Opus. I just don't have the same connection I did with BC. - OfNumbers, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1This is what happens when you bleed a little bit of morbid reality in to cute cartoons. Harvey Birdman should take this case.
- ronaldmkelly, on 12/20/2008, -0/+0argue otherwise, taking up Vachss's urge for us to "watch our language." This point shall be further explored and explained.
[ii] According to Lydia Laza (at the National Women's Studies Association conference, held in June of 2005), in some cultures, boys are tested for virginity.
