Chaotic Good - Pyroteknik, on 08/20/2008, -12/+29The ranges of good and evil according to Dungeons and Dragons, anyway. I liked the quotes accompanying each picture, as well. It's kind of cool to think of each person as the person whose quote they use. Benjamin Franklin vs. Victor Hugo sounds like a grudge match if I ever heard one.
- Morghin, on 08/20/2008, -1/+17Lawful Good is boring as hell (and it can't win).
- daveruiz, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9would love to see this in a higher resolution if anyone has it
- Ebeach, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9Dugg for Cerberus
Dave Sim is the man - SSPink, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9How is David Bowie Chaotic Neutral?
and don't give me any of that "it's John Constantine" crap, I know David Bowie when I see him. - da_bradler, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8I would argue that the three characters you listed as evil could also be listed as good. cept maybe Q who is more of the ideal neutral.
the question is what makes a man good? is it his direct actions or is it the result of those actions combined? is good at the expense of overall evil evil really more noble then doing evil to achieve good.
point in case, batman will not kill the joker even though the joker is all things evil and has shown to be uncontainable. So saving the jokers life in a direct action is good because your saving a life. but in the long term what he is doing is evil because saving the jokers life effectively allows the joker to continue killing. In this case batman is doing overall evil to society simply so he can feel good about himself(or rather less bad).
Also Jack Bauer may be neutral good to the united states but to other countries or even individuals that cross his path he could be considered evil. - Julz, on 08/20/2008, -1/+8DnD ftw!
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7Didnt you get the memo? The retrogade losers from wizards, who designed the 4rd edition D&D chose to "simplify matters a little" and reduced alignments to a single linear range of this.
Lawful Good - Good - Unaligned - Evil - Chaotic Evil.
They wanted it simpler yah, So a new generation of gamers, those not current preferring WoW, would flood in and buy their books. Talk about people who just don't get it. - Prathik89, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0ca0/ ...
weee, i was right !
oh yeah it makes a good eye too :P - RSS14, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6It makes a good eye, that's all that matters :P
- zomgwaffles, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6he is definitely Lawful Good, he follows a code.
they should add this
http://www.cold-moon.com/images/Motivators/Alignme ... - Prathik89, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5hey! i think ಠ is a kannada (South Indian) symbol?
- da_bradler, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Chaotic neutral should be Rorschach from the watchmen.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 08/20/2008, -4/+8You know what? We no longer need the "[PICS]" tag on titles. From the image preview, I think most diggers are able to discern that the link probably includes a picture or two.
- Dundasbro, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4It was in reply to the submitter's description. I see your point, but he is the douche here.
- ZenMojo, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Overthinking it. The alignment is determined by agency, not the consequences. A chaotic good character may constantly screw things up, but that doesn't make him any less good. A lawful good character may constantly get backstabbed but that doesn't make him any less good.
In D&D alignment: Good = self-sacrificing, Neutral = self-interested, Evil = self-satisfying.
Good people give of themselves to help others more often than not, neutral people more often than not avoid hurting others while looking out for themselves, while evil people persevere on the backs of others.
That said, Gregory House is far from neutral. This is a guy who injected himself with a deadly infection so he could save someone else's life. Misanthrope, yes, cynic, definitely, altruistic, most definitely. Chaotic Good.
And Dexter is a lying serial killer. The only guideline is he doesn't kill innocents. That sort of makes him chaotic good as well, not lawful evil. - p8ntslinger676, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5Thanks :)
- Bartboy919, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4So is the cake, but that's not stopping me!
- Chigurh, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Rorschach is the very definition of chaotic neutral
- Ghoztt, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4Dugg for there Mr. Logan with the claws.
- Chigurh, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Dugg for Dexter. I think Sylar would have been a better choice for chaotic evil though.
- Charlatan22, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Rorschach was hardcore stubborn and saw the whole world in black and white. He would be lawful with out a doubt.
- Ebeach, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3oh man, I ***** that up. It's Cerebus, not Cerberus. Ugh.
- bobsbones, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3What the hell is the True Neutral one?
- ThatCreepyGuy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Dude, you're taking D&D alignments way too seriously.
- contradictator, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2David Bowie is Sting?? It all makes sense now!
- zomgwaffles, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Actually it doesn't mean you follow the rules of the society at all. A lawful alignment follows a code whether it be his own or one handed down from an organization (church, police, government, evil organized society). Lex Luther is definitely a Lawful character but there are few instances where that law he follows is the one given to him by the society he lives in. As for your example (which is perfect) a Lawful Good will sometimes be faced with the dilemma of choosing between lawful and good, they usually do whatever is in the best interest of the citizens or whomever they uphold/protect. In this case he needed to beat the joker in order to get information to save people. He chose lawful over being "good" as it is not against his code to inflict pain upon criminals for the sake of others, he just cant kill them.
Not trying to flame you or anything but you probably haven't played DnD or read Batman comics for the past 10 years since you are solely referring to the movie. - charlietuna, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2This would be an excellent theology thesis, relate the D&D continuum of good and evil to the categories (mortal and venial) of sin. I'm stoked!
- msgdealer, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Sun King say "I am the state"? Not the imbecile who got caught and guillotined.
- Satenru, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Damn. That makes me want to get The Orange Box.
- Blaiden, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2LIES! Paladins are bad-ass.
- tehmoth, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2who knew he was a slaine ripoff
- shipwreck58, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Outstanding. Excellent selections too on te representatives for those alignment slates. +1 for D&D, +1 For Judge Dredd. All Win.
- Vazel, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Awesome they used the Bruce Timm Lex Luthor.
- Petrushka72, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Dave Sim's Cerebus [sic]. Very, very good choice for True Neutral, though definitely highlighting the more unpleasant side of Neutrality. Cerebus' amorality is drawn out in great detail in the course of the series, and he is a profoundly uncaring character, with a disturbing blend of apathy and egomania.
I don't really recommend a reading marathon to find out why Cerebus is a good choice for Neutral, though -- the series is very literary and very deep, but not very rewarding IMHO. - LeonHRodriguez, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2You must mean Mr. Howlett
- Mesmascizer, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Agreed 4th edition is crap all around sadly :(
- otros, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1@zomg: not as per 2E, at least. I would quote it, but my manual is in spanish.
- Gorrondonuts, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Don't be a tool. Just because they made some changes means you can't even read the rules now? People think Nintendo or Apple fanboys are bad. D&D fanboys are the worst, "Something changed in the new edition? Thats bad!"
Get over yourself and try it, you just might like it. - da_bradler, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1lol I dunno he threw a man down and elevator shaft because was getting off on getting beat up. not exactly the definition of lawful.
- tehcobra, on 08/20/2008, -2/+3Diggchan
- DarkenKO, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1no one is going to read that... what were you thinking?
my parents are deeeeaaaaaaddddd!!!! - muttsuki, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1SWEETNESS.
:D - SneakyNinja, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Dugg for references to DnD and Superheroes under the "motivational poster" guise.
Great quotes also! -
