- LarryLacuna, on 11/26/2008, -1/+64Spoiler alert.
- WillDearborn, on 11/26/2008, -0/+41only to rise again.....to sell even more comics
- jboitnott, on 11/26/2008, -0/+37They are doing it to boost comic sales more than anything I bet. It lifted sales so much for Superman and Captain America.
- bombayterror, on 11/26/2008, -0/+34It was done by Robin in the Batcave with the Bat-arang
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+30Superman. Captain America. Electra. Cable.
No one stays dead except Uncle Ben. - internetcoward, on 11/26/2008, -2/+30They finally found out that he has no powers so the joker hit him in his weak spot. His wallet.
- MasterGrief, on 11/26/2008, -1/+24You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
- cyrix, on 11/26/2008, -0/+22First thing in my mind too. Oh look....here comes another "superman dies" plot only to have him brought back.
If you're going to kill a character off do it in a grand fashion and DON'T bring them back. Make it something for decades of comic lovers to remember. Don't make it a cheap predictable event. If they kill off Wayne I hope it's permanent despite how much I love the character. Give the comic readers a REAL reason to sit up and pay attention like a pack of prairie dogs as opposed to a short gasp of "oh no he died" followed by them expecting his return through some ridiculous plot device like every other comic book character getting killed off has done.
/rant - oblique63, on 11/26/2008, -0/+21Buried as inaccurate. I already killed him in Mortal Kombat...
- MarkusDee, on 11/26/2008, -0/+21I'm still a bit sore with DC for pulling that stunt where they killed Superman. It was a great fight, but would have been better if the Man of Steel had put Doomsday down (technically I suppose he did and just died in the process). I don't even like Superman that much.
Batman ftw. - oblique63, on 11/26/2008, -0/+17should've gone with CapitalOne...
- Metasquares, on 11/26/2008, -0/+16Probably *because* he has no superpowers. He's just some crazy guy cleaning up the city by himself.
Superman is implausible. Batman isn't (to the extent that you can say that about any superhero). - momomorrell, on 11/26/2008, -1/+17"What I am doing is a fate worse than death, things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all."
sounds like he doesn't die to me... probably gets forced to watch the upcoming punisher. - OMGRussellCrowe, on 11/26/2008, -0/+15Well no *****, the story was called "Batman R.I.P."
- thefbimonkey, on 11/26/2008, -4/+17Buried as inaccurate, Bruce Wayne is still around for Batman Beyond.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+12Aren't they suppose to ascend or some *****?
- KrayzieKyd, on 11/26/2008, -0/+11"Upcoming"? RIP has been going on for months! Love it when popular media gets a hold of cult media.
"In breaking news, Captain America died on page... almost 3 years ago!" - Wilsomatic, on 11/26/2008, -1/+11WHY DO YOU WANT TO KILL ME?!
- palehorse864, on 11/26/2008, -0/+10He got better.
- Elranzer, on 11/26/2008, -0/+10Maybe he'll fake his death, and start an underground army consisting of the hoodlum thugs he use to ass-kick, converted to Bat-vigilantes...
Maybe he's just faking his death so he can let the guy who thought killed Batman, Sid the Squid, get him closer into Rupert Thorne's family and find out his secret ties...
Perhaps his back will be broken by Bane, and some blonde French guy will take the Bat-mantle... only to struggle with his inner demons and become a sort of Azrael-Batman hybrid that the original Bruce Wayne will have to come back to battle...
Or maybe he'll just be too old to be Batman, and let some acrobatic kid who breaks into his mansion take the Batsuit... but favor a flying prototype suit that takes him Beyond the normal Batman...
It's been done. - Shadoblak, on 11/26/2008, -0/+9*****. Now all we have is Nightwing.
- CoreyTamas, on 11/26/2008, -1/+10Hey, better to go out while you're still on top, right?
- floam, on 11/26/2008, -1/+10Isn't a character dying in a story something worthy of being considered a spoiler? Why would you give it away in the ***** title of the Digg post?
- Metasquares, on 11/26/2008, -0/+9But that's ok, because it will be a parallel universe, or it won't be the real Batman, or someone will go back in time and resurrect him, or any of the 10,000 other things comics do to attempt to keep a consistent continuity.
- Sornos, on 11/26/2008, -0/+9Ascend? Like the Ancients?
- AmnesiacJack, on 11/26/2008, -0/+8Why don't they hold this information in and surprise the readers with it half way through the comic, now that would shock people.
By telling us he's going to die it well, kind of ruins the experience of reading it because we know its comming. I know they do it to increase the hype and garner attention but it comes off feeling hollow to me. - IceQwin, on 11/26/2008, -1/+9I'm surprised he lasted longer than Superman. He didn't even have superpowers!
- tgc1, on 11/26/2008, -0/+7Looks like DC is getting desperate. You can't just kill off an icon. I'm more curious how they're going to bring him back. Maybe he'll just pop back into a following issue and say some catchy nonsensical line about a inter-dimensional shift, or a time warp or some derivative thereof.
- ZenMojo, on 11/26/2008, -0/+7Grant Morrisson. Killing your heroes since 2001.
On another note, I hear he was some Chinese guy the whole time. (So says the future retcon by Geoff Johns.) - lars5, on 11/26/2008, -0/+7or batman and robin...
suddenly ahnold for energy secretary doesn't sound too bad.
-- insert mr. freeze global warming pun here -- - meed, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6I bet their circulation numbers were getting low again, killing off a superhero has become a publicity move. Look at what happened to superman when they were gonna kill him off, the business started booming, then the bottom fell out not too many years later.
- uglymike, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6I'll wait to purchase the issue after this one where Bruce wakes up and it was all a dream
- SilentRamble42, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6DKR isn't in continuity
- billpyle, on 11/26/2008, -1/+7I thought that Bruce wasn't dying, he was just giving up being Batman for some reason or another?
- Poseur117, on 11/26/2008, -1/+7***** Grant Morrison.
- Tyrghast, on 11/26/2008, -1/+7The recession killed him.
- baldboy7, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5I always sucked at Clue. This doesn't bode well for Batman.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5DC comics is known for not being TOO afraid of killing off someone just so long as they can get another person to fill the suit (see the many Robins, the Flash, the Green Lantern, etc.).
However, they do have a habit of coming back from the dead, and in some cases (again, see the Flash, the Green Lantern, etc.) fighting crime alongside "the new guy." - cadmiumpaint, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5he'll jump into one of those pools that Rhas al Goul (or however you spell his name) uses in every batman comic to come back from the almost dead.
- nivekious, on 11/26/2008, -1/+6Exactly. Superman is a power fantasy. Batman is a career possibility.
- lfroker, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5Now we know what happens at the end of the next Batman movie
- zupzupper, on 11/26/2008, -1/+6Ahh you missed the "What if" series where they explored what would have happened if Aunt May died instead of Uncle Ben.
No one stays dead forever in comics =)
/me looking forward to his next shipment of books - SilentRamble42, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5Except he didn't.
- unabatedshagie, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4For me it's the fact that Superman is a bit too much of a goody two shoes where as Batman has more of a gritty dark side.
Also Batman is just a normal man, highly trained but still a normal man while Superman was basically born with his powers (I know it's only our sun that makes him super but you know what I mean) - ZenMojo, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4But he had prep time.
- vonbroner, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4Oracle.
- k4f123, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4Hi, I'm from the internet. I would like to inform you that your attempt at humor has failed miserably. On behalf of the internet I would like to recommend that you do not quit your day job. That is all.
- uberkling, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4He'll get better. They always do.
- CraigReed, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4What is this 24? Heroes? DC seems to think killing people off is the hot new thing, Maybe it's just me but if your comic is called Batman maybe Batman shouldn't end up being killed?
