Fan Created Incredible Hulk Model is Better Than Hollywood's
slashfilm.com — I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about the CG Hulk in the new Incredible Hulk movie. Personally, I had no problems with the design in this upcoming movie or Ang Lee ’s film from a couple years back. /Film reader Mark C sent over a fan created 3D rendering, which I even agree, looks better than the stuff we’ve seen in the trailers!

- intilli4, on 05/16/2008, -0/+18I am not to sure you can say it is better than hollywoods but it is DAMN GOOD.
- kensavage, on 05/16/2008, -1/+27why do all the clothes fall off the hulk except the pants? How does he make those pants grow too.
- gotspeed1212, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3special green dust....
- lordtyros, on 05/16/2008, -0/+18Because no one wants to see Hulk's jolly green giant flopping around for realism's sake.
- sanman, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3Maybe he needs a contract to be a pants spokesman.
Anyhow, that pic has him looking small in the crotch. Imagine if his Hulk transformation makes everything grow except, uhh... that. No wonder he'd be mad. - SteveIsTheDude, on 05/17/2008, -2/+5I like to show the ladies how my pants grow...ZING!!
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2Simpsons Hulk:

- hydroplane, on 05/16/2008, -0/+12CGI hulk can't beat Lou Ferrigno in green body paint. Disco Hulk FTW.
- trujillonorte, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Wow that looks really good.
- inajeep, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8That still IS much better than the grainy bumpy CG I saw in the preview. Now making him move realistically and making the waistband go from 30 to 48 is the tricky part.
- chocobomog, on 05/16/2008, -1/+17There is a huge difference between creating a model and doing some texturing and touch ups in Photoshop for a static web image, and creating a working, movable rig with thousands of controllers with FK/IK features that work with realistic deformations and skinning that moves the appropriate major and minor muscles which all look believable at 4k theater resolutions.
Great CG render? Absolutely!
Looks better than Hollywood's? That is subjective.
Better model/rig than Hollywood's? Absolutely not.- OpaqueMurdock, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I was going to try to address this but I think you covered it pretty well.
More than just simply give you a digg up, I will also add that as good as I am in PhotoShop after many years of making a living from it, plus being pretty good at rendering and editing "static" 3-D images. I would never assume I could get work as an modeler or animator unless I hit the books hard and spent a ton of time (years?) with a package like Maya or 3ds Max and showed plenty of examples of something moving. The creator of this image probably just had the goal of making cool art. : )
What this person has done is very valid and astonishing. I like it a lot. But it is a different set of skills and should not detract from the work of the people making films.

- eliot2000, on 05/16/2008, -0/+12What's more, he's armed with a shotgun that can shoot around corners.
- trujillonorte, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Now that I think about it, why isn't this guy working on the effects team in the movie? Hands down the best digital rendition of the Hulk that I've seen. The lighting and shadows is what sells it.
- jwoelmer2, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3because picture rendering is different than making him move
- BananaGrabber, on 05/17/2008, -2/+3Why would Hulk need a gun?
- sanman, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3It looks like he's holding a gun he just crushed
- CydonianKnight7, on 05/17/2008, -0/+6Make a short movie, then compare.
- chonuts, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3It's tough to compare since this is a still web image and the movie is, well, a movie. Body and muscle movement tend to be the deal-breaker for me when it comes to CGI. But the fact that this person put such effort and style into the image without a check from a Hollywood studio says a lot. Really nice work!
- TheFamousOne2, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3The one thing I dont get about EVERY SINGLE Hulk version....Why the freaking hell are their pants always so loose? You would think that when their leg nearly tripples in size, their pants would get tighter. I guess my logic is off.
- zomgwaffles, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3MUSCLE MILK ! ! ! !
- ScottDaMan, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2Hmm, not a big fan of the neck / shoulder region.
- vivalagoat, on 05/17/2008, -3/+1I find this submission to be very lame.
- 33iLL, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Ooooohhhhhh baby, now that's what hulk should look like!
3!LL - cran, on 05/17/2008, -0/+0Hulk. Yoda. Brothers?
- redrighthand, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1he's got a football players neck or lack thereof
- andieaw, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1yea i think this one come with a good rendered better than the movie
