Explaining the Success of ***** Bands [COMIC]
viruscomix.com — Finally someone comes up with a plausible explanation. If only it were true... I actually know people who think that Nickelback are good.

- TheWorm, on 02/19/2008, -21/+270Doesn't Nickleback just have like one song.. arranged differently and with different lyrics?
Then again, what do you expect from this guy: http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/1481587.jpg?v=1&c=V ...- Xerces, on 02/19/2008, -2/+37http://digg.com/music/Nickelback_2_for_1_Song_2

- nospinhere, on 02/19/2008, -59/+8I like Nickleback. Go ahead, digg me down you *****.
- subliminalurge, on 02/19/2008, -3/+13I don't "like" them, but I don't quite understand the hatred they get, either. While they're just your average no-talent, 3-chord band, they have actually managed to put together one or two songs that are somewhat catchy to have on in the background while you're sitting around having a few beers.
I enjoy well crafted songs written my talented musicians as much, if not more than, most people. I also realize that not every song has to be a masterpiece to be enjoyable. Nickelback may not be the most talented band ever (yeah, I know, huge understatement), I'll take them over Britney or Christina any day. - sparsely, on 02/19/2008, -3/+7Even by your own estimate, they only barely managed to cobble together a couple of semi-digestible songs that are only tolerable when drinking alcohol and talking loudly over them.
Not exactly a shining endorsement.
People hate them because they ARE the same as britney/christina, albeit for a different market segment.
Engineered hits! - Verdanic, on 02/19/2008, -1/+3@subliminalurge,
I agree whole heartedly.
@sparsely,
That's the wrong reason to hate an artist - because other people hate them. If you like the music, you shouldn't be ashamed. I can understand maybe hiding an unbeatable obsession with the macarena, but really, if the reason is that the music is 'engineered' or, as many seem to find, 'too popular', you should be content with listening to it. - Nitesmoke, on 02/19/2008, -2/+2Nickleback is one of the bands that I categorize as "chick rock." "Chick rock" is rock music that appeals mostly to women because every single song is sappy and all "I miss my girlfriend." Other examples include Matchbox Twenty, Creed, and Lifehouse.
- subliminalurge, on 02/19/2008, -3/+13I don't "like" them, but I don't quite understand the hatred they get, either. - sampanc, on 02/19/2008, -3/+14Haha! Nickelback, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, and Bryan Adams are America's problem now. Canada's finally gotten rid of'em!

- rpgmaker, on 02/19/2008, -6/+5I'm not a fan of Nickleback or anything but he has a few good songs. I don't know why in digg people think that because they dislike a band it's a ***** band but then you see stories about Paris Hilton in the front page every now and then.
Music isn't that good anymore but if people like it you don't have to get mad or anything, just move along.- JRW5061, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3There is still good music. You just have to look a little harder to find it. A lot of the stuff that MTV and VH1 and many other large companies spoon feed you is garbage. Most people just don't realize that there is a lot of good music out there that isn't main stream. I love how I always hear indie songs being played on commercials but they never make there way onto MTV or anything like that.

- Dementedpiggy, on 02/19/2008, -3/+4If they're the next Nirvana, does that mean the lead singer (Hopefully) is going to eat some buckshot?
- neodorian, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5Everyone keeps making the same point and missing the important one. For every post knocking Nickleback there is one guy asking "hey why pick on them? why are you such a music snob trying to dictate that something isn't cool because it's mainstream?"
Well, here's why.
There are probably a ton of bands that I like that someone else thinks suck. That's fine. It's expected. The point is that you don't have to like an artist but for them to be considered a valid artist, their whole modus operandi shouldn't be imitation of that which already is selling in order to sell more. That's why people bitch about "mainstream" rock. It's not that they are popular that makes them suck. It's that in the current landscape of Clear Channel and MTV you have to sound like what is already selling in order to be promoted. When you take a music like rock and roll that is supposed to be about energy and emotion and then wear that down to the lowest common denominator, it's going to piss off fans of rock and roll.
Everyone has influences but when your entire sound is that derivative and your tunes sound like they were written by a committee rather than a poet, you are going to be criticized. Couple that with the fact that this boring, repetitive, soulless and unoriginal music is what gets crammed down your throat every day on commercial radio and you can see why some fans are annoyed.
These auto-tuned pop creations are not what rock is about and it sucks that that is what sells these days. I'm not some old man that thinks everything by the next generation is crap compared to what I like. Even just counting rock music (which is a flash in the pan in terms of how long we've been making music) I've found great stuff from the very beginning up until the present. You just won't hear it on the radio which has become the modern equivalent of Muzak - nothing people will go nuts over but nothing that will make them offended or change the channel.- FlakMonkey, on 02/20/2008, -2/+1So you like nickleback then?
- HisTumness, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1This comic is truer than you think. The only person I know of who has ever bought a Nickelback album was my brother. He picked it up on accident when I asked for the new Nine Inch Nails album for my birthday and got me Silver Side Up instead. I guess he got confused. I was like "Oh... thanks... man... uh... hey did you get a gift receipt with this?"
- rurounikengyrl, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1should've given a warning with that link there, buddy.

- GhostyBoy, on 02/19/2008, -2/+35The Canadian government has apologized for Nickelback on numerous occasions.
Again, for good measure: We're sorry.- ohgr, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6Well it evens out. You gave us Skinny Puppy. That I am very thankful for :)

- blasian, on 02/19/2008, -0/+11wow. was gonna say the same thing. is nickelback really that ***** or has it just been programmed into my head that they are suck? i guess i'll ponder that thought over the video of them being pelted by rocks..
- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Nickelback is really that *****. I thought they were one of the worse popular bands before I found anyone else who agreed with me (most people do).
- Reziarfg, on 02/19/2008, -1/+26That's weird, I thought of Creed.
Disclaimer: Nickelback still sucks.- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8Creed may suck, but they are not even in the same league of suckiness that Nickelback is in.
- etherreal, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2Creed retired from that league and handed the reins to Nickelback when they did.
- chix0r, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2ditto. :(
- jstohler, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Creed and Nickleback are the matter and anti-matter of suck. If they ever appear together in the same place, the universe will come to an end.
- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8Creed may suck, but they are not even in the same league of suckiness that Nickelback is in.

- signal15, on 02/19/2008, -2/+25I got my hair cut today, and a Nickleback song came on the radio. The girl cutting my hair even bitched about it.
That dude needs to get some Vagisil and go cry himself to sleep on his big ***** shaped pillow. - Xondar, on 02/19/2008, -2/+3Same here... Odd...
- ethamajin, on 02/19/2008, -1/+2Yeah same here, dugg for accuracy.
- penkwin, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1ME TOO. Probably because they're the most successful failures at music today.
- Kajarago, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6Because he said Nickelback in the description?
- CrankyPants, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3What a horribly boring conversation to have.

- deviouskoopa, on 02/19/2008, -0/+29Haha sorry...
It's a link that plays 2 Nickelback songs on top of each other, one through each speaker, and proves that the songs really do sound exactly the same :) - m3mn0n, on 02/19/2008, -22/+2Of course they're going to sound similar when you're hearing them both at the exact same time.. I'd say listen to one, then the other to see.
- deviouskoopa, on 02/19/2008, -0/+11The point is you hear them both at the same time through different speakers, so you can cover one up and then the other if you so desire, or hear them overlapped in order to pick up the similarities in certain parts (say the bridge leading into the chorus).
- ohgr, on 02/19/2008, -2/+24And you're the reason why Nickelcrack sells records.
- Xondar, on 02/19/2008, -2/+4No matter how you listen to them, they're still the same song.
- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -1/+2The choruses are exactly the same for both songs and come at exactly the same moment.

- linaesa, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0holy crap.
- borez, on 02/19/2008, -1/+2Wait... Nickleback have 2 songs?

- zunkus, on 02/19/2008, -40/+5We all know that Nickelback sucks, unfortunately they are more talented than all the haters on here(myself included) I really doubt this comic has anything to do with reality, more like 8-14 year olds with access to cash they didn't have in the past. They don't really understand good music, so they go with what they hear on tv and the radio. Little ***** nerds.
- saxreturns, on 02/19/2008, -3/+29"unfortunately they are more talented than all the haters on here"
Speak for yourself, buddy. I'm not the greatest musician in the world but I know I write better things than three-chord commercialised dirges.- ghgh1313, on 02/19/2008, -3/+4i hate to say it, but their new drummer is ***** good though, look up his solos on youtube...daniel adair
- haterrade, on 02/19/2008, -5/+5everyone KNOWS a good song has to have atleast 14 chords and a 3 minute solo to be good
- NotOptium, on 02/19/2008, -3/+1Damn right! Oh, you were being sarcastic?
- Fordi, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1It's not the number of chords, it's the arrangement thereof - it should vary throughout the song, possibly with an accidental or two. Nickelback songs are the SAME THREE CHORDS repeated in order, ad nauseum. Musically, I *can't* respect them.
- bf01, on 02/19/2008, -1/+3Put your music where your mouth is saxreturns and let's let the Digg community decide whether or not you suck as much ass as Nickelback.
- zunkus, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1So I assume your getting airplay the world over....I said I hate nickelback which I do, maybe I should have said"They are far more succesful than anyone on here bitching."
- ohgr, on 02/19/2008, -4/+9The formula for Nickelback is simple: Take a few notes from Kurt Cobain's book on "How to look cool, while posing like you're not cool". Play simple three-chord puppy dog love ballads, and make sure in all of your videos, you have a super hot model to be your girlfriend. Instant Success. The girls eat this crap up.

MySpace.com/GhostyBoy- Herolint, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8Musically, I like your stuff. Lyrically, not as much, but certainly better than anything Nickelback ever did.
- GhostyBoy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Thanks for the feedback, man. I wanted to respond just to make the point, but I was actually pretty afraid of getting buried. It would seriously suck if diggers thought it was actually worse than Nickelback.
- Herolint, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2No, I think your music is good. I'd go see you, anyway. :) Also, I didn't mean to infer that I thought your lyrics were bad. I don't. For the most part, I thought the lyrics were good as well, just not as polished as the music itself. But again, leaps and bounds above lyrics like those found in Nickelback's retarded song "Figured Your Out"; or any of their retarded songs, for that matter.
Also, I prefer lyrics that I can listen to in the car with the family without getting a round of stink eye from my wife, but I'm sure my 5 and 9 year olds aren't your target audience, so that's probably neither here nor there.
For what it's worth, I do wish you luck in your music.

- nynety, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1They did give us Rush, though.
- platypibri, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1Nickelback can be enjoyable in the proper context. For example, I love movies. Classics, well made films, art and some of the less pretentious foreign films. And then every so often I get the urge to rent me some Battlefield Earth, just for the sheer train wreck horror of it.
I like stuff like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd... and then when I'm in the mood for the rock equivalent of Battlefield Earth.... Nickelback is one of many such bands.

- Arcesius, on 02/19/2008, -2/+10You sound like an art critic telling me what is "good art". I think it's totally dependent on what turns you on.
- Providence, on 02/19/2008, -6/+3I've found this to be true as well. Facebook someone who loves Nickelback, and in their favorite music section they'll also have other gems like: Godsmack, Daughtry, Stain'd, and Linkin Park (Bands directly taken from friend on Facebook who happens to like Nickelback).
- ubergeek09, on 02/20/2008, -2/+1Linkin Park has no talent, whatsoever.
- Daiken, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8I'm not a fan but there are 1 or 2 good songs from Nickelback that I like. But you can't say I don't know anything about music based on what I like and don't like. There's no connection between knowledge on a subject and your taste in music. Now stop acting like a stuck up prick and don't make broad sweeping generalizations.
- PuyoDead, on 02/19/2008, -3/+6Allow me to rephrase Buddist's comment.
Those who enjoy Nickelback generally don't know anything about musical -skill-. Actual, real-life musical ability. Anyone who has played/does play an instrument will instantly see the complete lack of skill in Nickelback. And they will also take great offense to the fact that such a poor excuse for music can make so much money. It's a great example of how people don't actually -listen- to music. They tap their foot to it, but they never really listen to it.- GunnerMcGrath, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6As a professional musician and songwriter I frequently laugh at the idea that "skill" on an instrument translates to quality songwriting. One need not be a master at an instrument to write a song that millions will enjoy, and many of the most skilled instrumentalists I've ever met couldn't write a decent tune if their life depended on it. I don't claim to be a master at either one, but I can certainly tell you one skill only mildly influences the other; quite often the more skilled instrumentalists fail at writing a good song for all their attempts to incorporate that skill into the song when it isn't necessary.
On the other hand a huge portion of the population never listens to any artists they didn't first hear on their local rock station and therefore have an extraordinarily limited knowledge of what's out there. We've all heard songs that we hated at first but ended up enjoying (much to our dismay) after being force-fed the song 200 times in the course of a couple weeks. The average radio listener doesn't discern the difference between this and a real piece of quality music, so they go out and buy CDs based on what they've heard on the radio.
Short version: radio play = more album sales than rightfully deserved. Always. Always. - Aidenf77, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2It's a fallacy to think that there is a "right" way to listen to music. If I want to tap my foot to a beat and enjoy it as I allow my mind to focus on something else (working, sleeping, carrying on a conversation), then how is that any more wrong or right than stuffing my head into a headset, closing my eyes and over-analyzing every intertwining voice and pattern to any and all of the multiple layers of a given track? Some music types (and individual songs) demand more attention than others and are, therefore, more appropriate to some situations as opposed to others. You're judging people for their taste in music, and how they choose to enjoy it. What attracts you to a song or particular style of music may be the exact thing that turns somebody else off, and to suggest that a person is wrong for their taste in music just because it differs from your taste is extremely self-centered and overly opinionated.
- GunnerMcGrath, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6As a professional musician and songwriter I frequently laugh at the idea that "skill" on an instrument translates to quality songwriting. - SwankRock3000, on 02/19/2008, -1/+4It's true. Nickleback is rock music for people who don't know the first thing about real rock music. The average Nickleback fan buys 2-3 albums a year, tops. It's the same thing (only to a lesser extent) as 50 cent. 50 Cent is rap music for kids who don't know the first thing about real rap music.
- egonSchiele, on 02/19/2008, -3/+1how dare you...nickelback and blink 182 are both great bands.
- Aidenf77, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2I always love to see how defensive (or offensive) people can get when it comes to their little corner of the music landscape. People can get so passionate and aggressive when expressing opinions about subjective taste. What attracts one person to something is exactly what can repulse another (especially with music) and just because I express an opposite opinion doesn't mean that you should feel that I've threatened yours (or vice versa). Each to his/her own when it comes to music, I say. What gets your jollies off is yours and who am I to argue with it? At the same time, just because something turns you on, doesn't mean that it has to do the same for me. Oh, and subjective taste and knowledge don't necessarily go hand in hand. Your comment forces an association that doesn't exist.
- haterofps3, on 02/19/2008, -2/+29I love how you are harping on people for enjoying a band, but failed to mention what good music was! For all we know your a groupie for nsync!

- knight2001, on 02/19/2008, -19/+5I like Nickelback... Sure their music sounds a lot a like, but so do many other bands. Big woop... I would listen to nickelback any day over the numerous crappy boy bands and Britney, Jessica, Lindsey, etc.. template stars (ever notice they even all look a like?). Still NIN kicks Nickelback's ass any day. Trent wipes his butt with the likes of Justin Timberlake and his types.
- ChromaVita, on 02/19/2008, -3/+12I agree with you on two points. NIN>Nickelback>Britney,Jessica, Lindsey. But with the broad variety of music out there, why not listen to music that isn't Nickelback or Britney or Jessica.

- haterrade, on 02/19/2008, -3/+6there's nothing wrong with liking the music that you like, if they were marketed differently and played on different radio stations (or none at all) i don't think people would hate on them here, but it's cool to hate them so what can you do
- Jaliyl, on 02/19/2008, -6/+3A few of their songs are all right but if I hear any of them more than three times I start to hate them too
- sunkist22, on 02/19/2008, -5/+6No, I like several of their songs. Some people are just jumping on the nickleback-hate bandwagon because they dont want to be ridiculed by their own friends... its the new fad for people who dont have lives of theirown

- surKaz, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3When I first heard them.. I liked them.. But heard 2-3 of their songs and realized they aren't that good.. Now I am one of those that approaches each Nickelback sound very cautiously.. If in the first 20 seconds (That might still be too long) I don't hear anything good. .I'm discarding that song... But on occasion to be fair, I listen to the full song or album (no matter how annoyed/irritated etc.. I get) before I take the CD and burn it.. I try to be objective..
But neway.. Yeah, Nickelback isn't that good..- sunkist22, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3At least you take a mature approach to it. You try the songs out, and don't like them - fair enough. Not everyone is going to like every style of music out there.

- PresidentSoup, on 02/19/2008, -4/+62I went to a Nickelback show once. I got there after they were done playing on purpose.
Also, Nickelback's name comes quite literally from receiving a nickel back as change. The band was trying to think of a name and they got a nickel back when they bought something. - saxreturns, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7"but i find their music kind of catchy when it plays on the radio"
It's meant to be simple and catchy, that's the only reason people buy it. Just like house music...- makkaveli19, on 02/19/2008, -0/+2i dugg you up, but i disagree with your opinion. not that there is anything wrong with your opinion. no on buys house music, atleast here in north america. for god's sake they only had two categories in the grammies and it didn't even show them. the rhythm in house and trance ect is nothing like other musics. it has actually be proven(don't remember the study) that rhythms, also found in electronic music, relax the mind and release endorphins. but i digress. you cannot dance and party with nickle back like you can with house music:)
- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4House and electronic music can be good and I listen to a lot of electronic music, but I can't imagine listening to *only* those genres. It's been shown that there is something to inaccuracy of human musicians compared to electronic music. For example, a human drummer who is off by a very small fraction of a second sounds better than electronic drums that are perfectly on time. Of course that inaccuracy could be emulated in electronic music.
Definitely you can produce rhythms and sounds electronically that just can't be done otherwise, so there's definitely something to appreciate there. And also, some bands are mixing non-electronic and electronic music to produce some pretty amazing music.- makkaveli19, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1you do know that they sample most of their sounds from instruments right? unless your a bedroom producer using fuity loops or something

- saxreturns, on 02/19/2008, -1/+31. What awards have they won then? The panel(s) of judges must have been sub-mental. Oh, and grammies don't count because they're an absolute joke. Any band or 'artist' that gets famous enough can win a ***** grammy regardless of how ***** their music is.
2. Who gives music away for free? People who care more about making fans happy and enabling others to enjoy their art than making ***** of cash by writing half-baked ***** and selling out to the first major label that comes along. Music existed long before money ever did, and as far as I'm concerned if people want to give their music away then more power to them. Obviously it's good if as a musician you can make a living from it, but that shouldn't be the priority in my opinion. - idesign562, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7troll.

- meells, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Rush, Neil, yes....Celine....Hmmm. I throw in a nod to Despised Icon. Surely some Diggers are into them. Right?
- unorginalityftw, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1No, no... he actually has a point guys. I mean, we DID create Celine Dion as well. =|
- manicmailman, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0MATTHEW GOOD!!!
i know thats only one... otherwise you win.. you always do... - wiesnertroy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Canada actually has some good music if you're not listening to pop radio. Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Feist, The New Pornographers, Wolf Parade, etc.
- uziko, on 02/19/2008, -17/+4Compared to most of the garbage out there, they are like gods. You want real crap look up 50 cent, eminem, usher, etc. Or you can look up britney spears, celine dion, for more craptacular music. Nickelback isn't that bad.
- RAEP, on 02/19/2008, -7/+1lol k. at least fiddy can make beats.
- aaronandwine, on 02/19/2008, -8/+1Dude no, Nickelback is pretty bad. A lot worse than 50 and eminem.

someone likes Nickleback
*recess bell rings, runs back to class- 1timeuser, on 02/19/2008, -1/+3You better copyright those lyrics before nickleback turns it into a repetitive song....
- saxreturns, on 02/19/2008, -4/+1Explain how Nickelback are any better? The only difference I can see is that Nickelback are a group who play all the instruments rather than a solo singer/rapper, but that doesn't mean their music is any less soulless and crap than the others. As a student of music, I'm afraid I must tell you that you've been had if you think Nickelback are in any way musically superior to anyone else you mentioned.
- idesign562, on 02/19/2008, -3/+2oh yeah, Usher has talent. I'm not into RnB, but he's good.
- mattmy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1yes they really really are that bad
- BTConan, on 02/19/2008, -2/+3I would like to think that my grandma knows not to buy me a Nickelback CD even if she didn't know what kind of music I listened to.
- idesign562, on 02/19/2008, -1/+6my grandma would rather make me some food.
- dr.tchock, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5thank you for turning me onto this webcomic. a great bunch of absurd humor.
- cmoyniha, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5The lead singer from Hinder was asked what he thought now that he had been deemed a "sellout" band that had made number one on the charts. He replied. "I asked myself that same question, then I thought to myself, some good bands have to sell out or we'd all be sitting around listening to nickelback" makes me warm and fuzzy inside
- B3000, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3Except that Hinder sucks every bit as bad - if not worse - than Nickelback. That's honestly like having the guys from O-Town call out N'Sync for being a ***** boy band.
You are not part of the *****-music solution - you are part of the problem.

Pop (Britney Spears, Jessica, ..),
American Idol (the king of crap music),
Winehouse (O.D. so we don't have to hear you anymore)
Blame:
- Music Industry
- Clear Channel
- Copy cat bands
- American Idol- elscorcho717, on 02/19/2008, -8/+6Say what you want about 50 Cent but I wouldn't say he's fake. ***** got shot in the face seven times.
- Rustymetal, on 02/19/2008, -3/+2Yeah, some rappers are fake, some arnt. But rap has disappoints me lately, all they talk about is money, cars, clothes, hoes, ect. Some of the old ***** was good.
My boy bobby d, his lyrics would kill anything 50,TI,Jim jones, ect could come up with. myspace.com/diazbobby thats that real *****- blasian, on 02/19/2008, -2/+0myspace.com/therealdamiennoir
- Rheic, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Mainstream rap is ***** like the mainstream of anything is *****. Let me know if you ever hear Aesop Rock or El-P rapping about cars and ho's.
- 1timeuser, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1Chuck D is the only real high profile rapper left imo.
- KingGorilla, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5Does that make James Blunt even realer? He has been shot at more times than 50 cent.
- Rustymetal, on 02/19/2008, -3/+2Yeah, some rappers are fake, some arnt. But rap has disappoints me lately, all they talk about is money, cars, clothes, hoes, ect. Some of the old ***** was good.
- bjs3171, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4he did not get shot in the face 50 times. and honestly i really would not group eminem in with pop-hop like 50 cent. i'm pretty sure the man has down syndrome.
- twollamalove, on 02/19/2008, -8/+2yes, eminem is ***** terrible; he DEFINITELY belongs on this list; Marshal Mathers and Slim Shady are two of the worst rap records ever; and it's rap anyway, not even a real art form...
- explodingtree, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4You must not listen to much rap.
- twollamalove, on 02/19/2008, -4/+1sarcasm much?

- krische, on 02/19/2008, -1/+2How dare you throw eminem in with the ***** rappers. The man actually has talent and a VOCABULARY! The new fad it rap seems to try and use as little words as possible. Listen to "Like This" by SIMS and you will know what I mean.
- worthone, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Amy Winehouse sounds like a good singer, plus her album isn't altogether that bad (I could come up with much worse artists than Winehouse). You have listened to her album before making an educated insult, right? Or are you one of those people who base their opinion on hits that you hear on radio and MTV?
- elscorcho717, on 02/19/2008, -8/+6Say what you want about 50 Cent but I wouldn't say he's fake. ***** got shot in the face seven times.
- dvntrsnsltd, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7I think everyone is entitled to guilty pleasures, but it bothers me when someone goes "I love rock music" and proceeds to name Nickelback as an example.

I don’t like to admit it
is a Celine Dion song
from the movie Titanic. - PJBovoNox, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Nickelback ***** suck beyond all belief, but they surely are classed as 'rock music', no?
- Tetraca, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1I believe they could be classified as "pop rock", so you are technically correct, but people that are really into the rock genre probably think the category is a joke anyway.
- twollamalove, on 02/19/2008, -1/+2My favorite song *****
- HumanRecall, on 02/19/2008, -18/+8Yes Nickelback is real ***** - WTF ever ! Don't be hating on a great Canadian Band like that !!
They top on the Canadian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. This makes them the second Canadian band to accomplish this, the first being The Guess Who with "American Woman" Thast right bitches !! a Canadian band sang one of Americana's Favorite songs !!
All the Right Reasons has already sold over 6.5 million albums in the United States and over 9 million albums worldwide
Just because they have beaten out almost every band world wide in Canada the U.S and everywhere else since 2003 to be hating BITCHES !!!
Idiots like you praise 50 cent's crap !! And worship messes like Lloyd banks !- VeganG, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9"Idiots like you praise 50 cent's crap !!"
Ugg, give us some credit. It's not Digg users that make 50 Cent best-selling and make Soldier Boy the most-downloaded single of all time.
If you want a real Canadian band, get The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site- manicmailman, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0weakerthans reference... finally something other than a bryan adams plug.... i would add matt good to the list of good canadian artists... you have to dig around to find them... but they are out there....
- AntzNZ, on 02/19/2008, -3/+4No, just ***** off. Nickelback and 50 cent both suck major ass. Album sales? Yeah, what a great thing to base good music on (not).
- TheInfamousOne, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1Instead we should base it on what AntzNZ says is good, cause everyone must like the exact same type and flavor of music.
- AntzNZ, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Correct.

- mustang460, on 02/19/2008, -1/+5if people see any kind of art that they don't like, and find it to be more popular than there own favorites then they will make up any nonsense to slander it
nickelback is not my cup of tea, neither is rap music, but there is no reason to say either one is bad, when obviously they are popular.
I suppose everyone likes to think they are more "enlightened" than the average folk, reminds me of how everyone in traffic is calling everyone else an idiot- ucg1, on 02/19/2008, -2/+1No, you don't understand, Nickelback really does suck. They have no talent, neither in songwriting nor performing. Acting like you are above judging art doesn't make you more "enlightened" than the critics.
- DeFex, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7so if something sells well it is good? mcdognads must make the best hamburgers in the world then.
eat *****, 1 billion flies cant be wrong!- TheInfamousOne, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3"Good" is a opinion, and as such, is subjective depending on who you ask. Good != best in the world either. I'm not a fan of nickelback, but I don't hate people who buy their music. Its what they like, good for them, wtf do i care?
- mattmy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1there are ALOT of great bands that come from canada they dont make it on the top of the charts cus they are good the top of those charts are filled with garbage some of which as you pointed out is made by nickleback

- IronGoldfish, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2I'd just like to say that Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Radiohead all come from UK (and they are exceptions to your statement if you bend the word 'popular' just a little. - freedomwv, on 02/19/2008, -5/+0That does happen a lot. Damn Wal-Mart market all that crap and the people who work there usually don`t know a thing about what good music is at all. That is what we get for allowing a Communist company to get way too large.
- lolinyerface, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Wow...That was an awesome comment. "a Communist company" So basically what you are saying is they spread their profit out equally among all employees? Or maybe they give away equal portions to all customers?
Oh, I see what you did there. Your definition is Communist = evil. I guess the American brainwashing has worked its magic on you.

Don't pay any attention to these children...their minds haven't matured yet.- sunkist22, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7There are a few hate groups on Facebook.
