- Edge00, on 08/31/2009, -8/+181WTF?
- chicagospur, on 08/31/2009, -1/+152It will be interesting to see what happens to the Marvel movie and theme park franchises. I think Sony still own the rights to the next Spiderman movie and Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando is primarily based on Marvel characters.
- Trooperof3, on 08/31/2009, -2/+145$4 Billion, damn.

Disney owns Miramax, which made everything from Kill Bill to No Country for Old Men. I think Marvel will do fine keeping its movies the way they want them. - Charlotte_Web, on 08/31/2009, -5/+90As the largest Disney shareholder, Steve Jobs now has access to all of that Marvel IP. Maybe they'll start selling comic book subscriptions through the upcoming Apple Tablet.
- MLBudToo, on 08/31/2009, -1/+83Warner Bros and Disney now own the comic book business. Well, *****.
- bilbravo, on 08/31/2009, -1/+81I read that the wrong way.
::shudder:: - Nightcrawler13, on 08/31/2009, -3/+82Marvel seemed to be functioning just fine. I realize that this gives them more capital but Marvel might have made some serious bank on the Iron Man 2 release.
Being a cog in the Disney machine doesn't sound great. - Awwzm, on 08/31/2009, -0/+71Will we still see Stan Lee cameos?
- MrCapo, on 08/31/2009, -3/+60Huey Dewey and Fin Fang Foooooey!!!!!!!
- Charlotte_Web, on 08/31/2009, -2/+55And don't forget about Marvel Animation. Might there be a Pixar/Marvel collaboration in the future?
Also, Disney seems to have the whole retail thing figured out... it would be cool to see them branch out and do the Marvel Store in malls across America. - MrCapo, on 08/31/2009, -3/+53Pluto vs Galactus! EPIC!
- AndrewDB, on 08/31/2009, -7/+49Adios Marvel. It was nice knowing you.

- theDashRendar, on 08/31/2009, -13/+50In related news, Marvel now sucks.
- eadnams, on 08/31/2009, -0/+37Seems to be going okay for Pixar...
- thebuggalo, on 08/31/2009, -1/+36Godspeed, spiderman.
- eadnams, on 08/31/2009, -4/+37hmm, Pixar has taken over Disney Animation Studio... so any animated Marvel film, may be handled by Pixar... That seems full of win, on paper at least. We shall see.
- ModernTenshi, on 08/31/2009, -2/+33For the record, Disney bought Miramax films back in 1993.
The following films have come out from Miramax since then:
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill vol. 1 and vol. 2
Gangs of New York
The Aviator
Clerks 1 and 2
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Chicago
Cold Mountain
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Finding Neverland
Cinderella Man
The Queen
Doubt
Those films are all highly critically acclaimed, and/or Oscar nominees/winners.
Disney buying Marvel Entertainment will not mean they'll interfere with the production of Marvel's movies. Actually, this could be seen as a vote of confidence in Marvel's films by Disney, so much so they want to financially back the studio so they can get some residuals.
I'd think more people would be happy, as this hopefully means Fox won't be able to get their hands on movies from now on, especially since Marvel should now be able to use Disney as a distributor of their films. - brainboy7777, on 08/31/2009, -1/+32Him and ***** Mickey Mouse.
- Mikey706, on 08/31/2009, -6/+36Get ready for the New Avengers movie brought to you by ***** Pixar....
- superflydugg, on 08/31/2009, -4/+33disney "owns" lots of stuff, touchstone, abc, your mom, but all that stuff remains okay and for kids. don't see disney as being just for kids, it's more like an all seeing all knowing god type corporation.
- centran, on 08/31/2009, -1/+30As soon as the license is up for renewal at Universal Islands of Adventure it will not get renewed. That is a no brainer.
I am a little worried about the movies. They will probably want to lighten up the darker bits of the movies. - ZenMojo, on 08/31/2009, -1/+29Gizmo Duck versus War Machine
- FutureGuy, on 08/31/2009, -1/+29Hopefully it won't be "only through the upcoming Apple Tablet".
- bjorna, on 08/31/2009, -1/+26DC ≠ Marvel
- ZenMojo, on 08/31/2009, -0/+24Warner Bros. gave us Batman: The Animated Series and the Duck Dodgers Crossover with Green Lantern. I can't complain too much...
- FTLJohnson, on 08/31/2009, -3/+27Actually, that would make for an AWESOME Super Smash Bros gamestyle...
- T8erT0T, on 08/31/2009, -1/+21The Punisher Kills The Disney Universe
gold baby, gold! - amp8587, on 08/31/2009, -7/+27Marvel with Kindgom Hearts would be awesome!
Nah its a smart move for Disney. It gives them new revenue, movie wise I feel might hurt the movies themselves, but people are still going to see them. I know Disney will try to keep the ownership quiet to help revenues with the pictures though, giving the rights still to Sony, might cost them more now though.
With regards to Universal Studios, I see this really working out for them, technically they now take in revenues from their main theme park competition. - biotch, on 08/31/2009, -0/+20seriously man.... BOOOOO!!!
This just about destroys any hope of mine that Marvel would start dabbling in R rated movies. - arhseven, on 08/31/2009, -2/+22Seriously, who cares? We're talking about a company that gave the go-ahead for Spider-man on Broadway.
- inkubusfan, on 08/31/2009, -11/+30I actually dont think that would be a good idea.
- pandorazboxx, on 08/31/2009, -0/+19The Superhero Island is only part of the Islands of Adventures, but it is a big part IMO. Hulk coaster, spiderman ride, Dr. Doom's fear fall. I'm sure they could retheme it but it would cost a lot of money. I wonder what will happen there.
- L0NER, on 08/31/2009, -2/+21So will marvel comics be drawn by disney artists now?
independent comics will be more important than ever now. - valetudomexican, on 08/31/2009, -0/+18No, think of how bad it is loosing to a 10 year old on Xbox Live, now imagine he's playing as Daisy Duck.
- speedygonzalez, on 08/31/2009, -4/+22i'm really torn with this decision. on one hand, the possibilities are amazing. Pixar has availability to use these characters now, they could build a whole new "super hero island" theme park to appeal to an older audience and probably do it with amazing detail, as disney is known to do with their themes...
on the other hand they could really ***** up the great marvel properties that have been coming out... amazing material like iron man, the incredible hulk, and the upcoming avengers... if disney follows the decision making processes that they've practiced in recent years, we're going to be seeing a lot of bad decisions (quickly) to make some money back from this $4 billion investment, like having spider-man and all his marvel buddies walking around the parks, and just really messing with the theme that we know in the parks right now. not to mention the affect that disney will have in the making of the marvel movies... they always manage to mess up properties by creating 18 sequels to every movie and squeezing every penny out of it... what does this mean for the Universal's theme park that already has The Hulk coaster, Spider-Man 3d attraction?
it's going to be interesting to see what comes from this deal... -
