- Splintuh, on 07/20/2009, -2/+25As long as Ben Affleck is not in them, I'm good.
- spookyttws, on 07/20/2009, -0/+19Although it's obviously not going to happen, but it would be amusing if everyone stopped going to see Superhero Movies. It feels a lot like the stock market where one company has one really successful project, they think that's what the world wants so they dump their entire budget into dozens of the same type of project, only to see it all blowup in there face.
Dark Knight didn't make 100's of millions because it was a DC comic, it made millions because Christopher Nolan is an amazing filmmaker. - i23Photography, on 07/20/2009, -0/+17The Losers??? Jonah Hex??? Human Target??? Red???
What about Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Martian Manhunter? Or how about another Batman or Superman movie... or maybe so the highly anticipated Batman Superman movie (like we were teased with in I am Legend)... I'd even be happy with Batman Beyond. DC needs to stop farting around. - whatthefu, on 07/20/2009, -0/+14It's Batman. A lot of people would see any decent-looking Batman movie.
- kitsua, on 07/20/2009, -2/+15Wow, that's a lot of comic book movies.
Other than Bizarro Superman, they all look doomed to the inevitable hackery we've come to expect.
Probably still watch The Flash though. Wake me up when Y: The Last Man and Transmetropolitan get made. - username7410, on 07/20/2009, -2/+14Doesn't seem very huge?
- kinseyincanada, on 07/20/2009, -0/+11Spiderman 3 made a metric *****-ton of money and it was ***** horrible.
- gutistg, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9I'm tired of idiots not getting sarcasm.
- Wreckage, on 07/20/2009, -1/+9They need to pay us back for that awful, awful Superman Returns. There is only one way I can think of....
Give us "Kingdom Come"
As a Marvel fan that series gave me a new found respect for DC. - busterbros, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7That's what she said?
- pootpoot, on 07/20/2009, -1/+8@solid12345
Ledger's death obviously had a huge impact on TDK's box office, but that's not what made the movie successful. If it were a lackluster movie or performance by Ledger, the movie would have never ended up with $600 million. The curiosity factor really only has an influence on box office receipts in the first few weeks of the movie's release. After that, staying power relies on how good the movie is and word of mouth. - NinjAlt, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7I want a Deadpool movie to make up for what they did to us Deadpool fans with that Wolverine movie. For god sakes don't forget to include the doorknobs. Much love for the Merc with a Mouth.
- ZebraApocalypse, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Green Hornet
- khoa1708, on 07/20/2009, -2/+8DC always has the simplest superhero names: superman, batman, wonder woman, aquaman, etc...
n thanks to their great marketing, most people think there is only 1 bad guy in the entire superman series, lex luthor - empath, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Interesting, still no Sandman movie in the works. I guess after Watchmen fizzled, there's not a lot of interest in the Vertigo stuff. Just as well, I can't imagine a Sandman movie being any good.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Ryan Reynolds is going to be playing Marvel's Deadpool character AND Green Lantern? One of those movies needs to fire their casting director.
- lolwatermelon, on 07/20/2009, -4/+10It's like Batman said:
"The last time you really inspired anyone . . . was when you were dead."
Superman is a ***** character simply because his villains are lame and he's able to shrug off just about everything. - spookyttws, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Umm, there's also a second page.
- lolwatermelon, on 07/20/2009, -2/+7Clearly those are AAA titles. Marvel should be running scared.
- CoreyTamas, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6Don't forget he was in Blade 3... another movie based on a comic book.
- TugOSpiegel, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5The reason why I love Sandman is because all of it's individual stories, separate and interconnected at the same time You can't put just one of those stories into a movie and expect people to like or even understand it. As it was for Watchmen, Sandman was made for comics and comics alone.
- TugOSpiegel, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5I don't know about Jonah Hex, but The Losers, Human Target, and Red are all pretty awesome comics. It looks like DC is making sure that it isn't going for purely fantasy superhero movies. Bravo, I say.
- sharkydog, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5I agree. If they were to bring Darkseid, Doomsday or Brainiac in and give Supes a run for his money, then that could go a long way towards rejuvenating the franchise. I mean, Lex Luthor is cool, but he's kinda played out, having been in the LAST FIVE MOVIES!!!
- Elranzer, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Batman has the BEST villains. What the hell are you smoking?
- CleoQKazoo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4How amazing would it be if Reynolds was Flash? Iknow it can't hapen now but I like to imagine it. So perfect.
- antdude, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5Make the movies dark as in violence. Rated R if needed. We don't like kiddish.
- kitsua, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4They'll be pumping out Batman and Superman films for decades yet, don't worry about that.
The Flash and Green Lantern? Sure, they'll probably be cheesy but I grew up reading them so I'll go along.
Wonder Woman and Aquaman? I'm facepalming already.
Everyone else - who? - Pxtl, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Page 2 included Green Arrow and Flash.
- Pxtl, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Bizarro from the makers of Galaxy Quest could be farking epic.
But yeah, the rest sound uninteresting. Green Lantern could be good, but it will probably another forgettable popcorn flick - passable, but not another Iron Man or Dark Knight.
There is no possible way that Jonah Hex won't suck. - markperia, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5The Sandman can never work as a movie. It's too complicated. Plus it'd be very long.
- GaryChalmers, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3"The studio is taking pitches on sci-fi hero Adam Strange and the underwater-breathing hero "Aquaman," to be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way shingle"
Aquaman? Whose going to star in that one - Vincent Chase? - solid12345, on 07/20/2009, -2/+5Soon he will even be playing Stan Lee's cameos.
- muzzynat, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I think you're getting dugg down because he was only rumored for the flash role, and his picking up the green lantern role pretty much ends his chances of also being the flash (because it would make a justice league movie impossible).
- solid12345, on 07/20/2009, -5/+8It made a billion dollars because people were morbidly curious to see Heath Ledger's last performance, otherwise it would have been a successful movie like Batman Begins but not a pop culture phenomenon by any stretch.
- badtiki, on 07/20/2009, -3/+6ugh ! I think DC needs to focus on their prime properties like Marvel did. Get Superman right first, easy way to do this is turn "Smallville" to the big screen, Tom Welling is a great replacement for Reeve.
- Reebee52, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Why God, why are they backburning Superman? And making a Bizarro Superman movie? I'm going to kill myself... That's ridiculous.
Superman, if done right, could be one of the most awesome comic-book movies to date. Give him a bad ass villain, have them fight in a high stakes, dramatic, but FUN and Entertaining situation. Show that he ISN'T too powerful, since his villains are often MORE powerful. Show that he isn't one dimensional, and that he is more relatable than people believe.
And for those that doubt this, go watch "Itsjustsomerandomguy" on youtube. He does one of the best Comic book stories I've seen, and does Superman very very well (and it's all with ***** action figures)... Or read some of the better Superman graphic novels. Or watch the early Smallville Years (up to season 6ish, skipping season 4), or watch TAS. Superman can, and has been done right. WB is stalling like idiots. It's not that flipping difficult. - JigoroKano, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Wow kid, do you even know how Alan Moore is?
- pootpoot, on 07/20/2009, -3/+6@lolwatermelon
You obviously haven't read too many Superman books. Obviously, it's hard to write a good/compelling Superman story because of his powers. But when a writer is able to accomplish that, it's absolute gold. Superman is not a one dimensional character. I hate this new "I HATE SUPERMAN" fad. I understand the whole "but he's too strong" argument, but his powers don't define him. - edjenkins234, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3And the movie going public snores loudly.
I guess with the amount of money required to make a big budget movie and the fact that people now have less money to spend on these things makes taking a chance on a new story idea a much bigger risk, a la the video game industry.
I guess we have a few more years of these god awful video game sequels, "superhero" movies, and reality television. I feel so out of touch with what it seems "mainstream america" wants its pretty scary. - kitsua, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Watchmen was about as good an adaptation as you could hope from Hollywood and there's lots to like about it, regardless of it's faults.
Sandman, however, will never work (unless, maybe, as some weird animation experiment). I really, really hope they leave it alone. I know Neil Gaiman wouldn't let them screw it up anyway. - hipnerd, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Never say never. I used to think the same thing about Watchmen. The movie wasn't perfect, but it was a good take on the source material. They don't have to do the entire Sandman series, just one arc.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3I agree. Enough is enough.
- harrison5394, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Green Ranger
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Red starting Bruce Willis could be awesome
- Dorian822, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2That was my hope, Reynolds seemed to fit Flash like a glove but as the GL? Hal Jordan? No way. I don't see it at all. Its another Superman Returns with poor casting killing the momentum before it began.
- Elranzer, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Except it wasn't Ledger's last performance. That title goes to Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
- kitsua, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2I completely agree. Leave Sandman alone thankyouverymuch.
- theonlybradever, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2batman doesn't kill moron.
- ViscidGobs, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Serious and dark doesn't sell in terms of longevity or endurance. If anything the script writers need to add some fun. The recent Star Trek movie is a classic example of adding some fun and humour to an otherwise dire story. The first four Star Wars movies were fun. The last two just took themselves too seriously, too dark. If the world is going to blow up, which it will eventually do, can't we enjoy the ride a little? They could have a lot of fun with the Flash. I'd like to see a SuperFriends movie, but I'm a sap.
- Elranzer, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2solid12345: DC has Batman. He trumps all of Marvel's characters in terms of household names.
