- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+15Bring Deslok back. So love this show when I was a kid.
- ironhide, on 06/06/2009, -0/+14This made me dig out my Star Blazers DVDs.
- pingpants, on 06/06/2009, -1/+14Damn you, Pinto. Now I want to go hug my Miyazaki soot sprites.
- digitalcole, on 06/06/2009, -0/+12Despite what the blog person said on about the trailer...
THAT WAS F@#$ing COOL!
Yamato! LIFT OFF! - michaelpinto, on 06/06/2009, -0/+9Miyazaki worked on the Lupin III in the 80s (he directed some of the best episodes IMHO) - can you imagine if Nishizaki hired him to direct this film? Hell at this point I'd even settle for a Hollywood reboot...
- AgeofMastery, on 06/06/2009, -0/+9My son will love this like I loved the original.
- Thumper13, on 06/06/2009, -0/+7I don't love the CGI, but when Yamato was taking off and the music kicked in, I got all giddy inside.

- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+6I sed to draw the ships in school for at class. I watched this everyday.. I can not wait..
- ihavebeenseen, on 06/06/2009, -0/+6We're off to outer space...
- blacklilyninja, on 06/06/2009, -0/+6in spite of the guys harsh review, I have been waiting 30 years for this remake. It looks amazing.
- Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -1/+6The way the article is written just sounds like sour grapes. What else did he expect from a Star Blazers movie? Wild Star looks too clean cut? He never had facial hair, and his hair is still long and messy. Suit redesign? It's not redesigned much. The story was always about the Yamato saving the day, using the wave motion gun to destroy the enemy. I don't want a soap opera between Wild Star and Nova with some mild fighting cut in. I think this is going to be good.

- Thumper13, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5You lost your fun somewhere along the way. You should try to find it.
I feel sad for you. - Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5Searching for a distant star
- Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5which, if you saw the cartoon, the real one became the space one.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5I agree, the author must be some ultra purist, who doesn't like any change to his beloved show. I too think it looks great, the CGI Argo/Yamato looks ***** amazing! All the original Yamato music is there too. Hope it comes out subtitled here.
- Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+5We're leaving Mother Earth
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Dr Sane and IQ9 were the best. Always thought it was funny that in the American adaptation, Sane was always said to be drinking "spring water" when in fact he was crocked all the time in the original.
- EtherGnat, on 06/06/2009, -1/+5Who knows what dangers we'll find?
- pingpants, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Could he? Or is Miyazaki exclusive to Studio Ghibli? (Watching: http://is.gd/PQZU)
- dougd3345, on 06/06/2009, -1/+5to saaaave the human race!
- xt0ph3r, on 06/06/2009, -1/+5Welcome to Digg. Enjoy your stay.

- marmotjmarmot, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Our Star Blazers!
- Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4But here in the US we didn't get it until around 79 IIRC...and it was pretty big here until around 82/83, if memory serves.
- ironhide, on 06/06/2009, -0/+4Heading off to Iscandar
- dmm219, on 06/06/2009, -1/+4Horrible plot line? SB, had, by far, one of the better plots for its time. The voice acting is cheesy, and some of the short plots are lame...but the overall lot didn't dumb down to pokemon, power ranger levels of dumbness...they actually address stuff like death, world destruction, love and other very adult themes. Buried for being an incredibly stupid comment with no evidence at all to support it...
- ViscidGobs, on 06/07/2009, -0/+3Holy ***** I can't believe that anyone else watched this show. "Our Star Blazers, through the fire and the smoke we will never give up hope in our Star Blazers." Doesn't Benderspink still have the rights to the show?
- IronChef75, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3Our Star Brazers!
Engrish Fail. - fuckingusername, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3the 80's just rocked
- shipwreck58, on 06/06/2009, -0/+3OMG OMG OMG! I think I just stained my pants!
- TonyCubed, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Anyone else think Star Destroyer when they seen this picture? http://www.fanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/y ...
- dmm219, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Not a fan at all of having this be a CGI film. Years and years ago they almost made a live action film (Sean Connery was slated to play caption avatar)...now THAT would have been awesome.
I think Starblazers would work the best with a BSG type remake treatment... - graemee, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Drunken Doctor and Pervert robot are also win.
- Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Subtitled, and hopefully with some english V/O by the original V/O actors, if they can still do it.
- jedinate, on 06/07/2009, -0/+2Agreed. I used to watch it on UHF, every day after school.
- omnithought, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2And here I thought I was the only one...this is total nostalgia.
- michaelpinto, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2As the former head of the Star Blazers Fan Club (that was back in 1979) I wanted Matsumoto to be involved! If you looked at the original Matsumoto manga the characters were much more cartoony — these character designs feel almost generic looking at this point. They feel even more stiff than usual — and there's no excuse for this!
- Spinducky08, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I, as well, would like to see more of a "live action" movie made of this. The current CGI rendition of the "Argo" (which is the name I knew the ship as) looks great! If only someone could just create a good storyline and find a producer that won't totally innialate the spirit of the show (ie, make it a COMEDY), I think they'd have a winner here.
Is Lucas busy, by any chance? - Kronos6948, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2If we don't, in just one year
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Unfortunately many of the voice actors used in the early English adaptations are either unknown or have passed away. A few of them, such as the ones who voiced Desslok and Nova are known, but I don't know about the others.
- omnithought, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I wanna see the monkey-lookin' doctor guy!!
- EtherGnat, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2Mother Earth will disappear
- smacksaw, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Yeah I just stopped right there before I became really disappointed and disillusioned with perfectly happy Yamato memories.
- Duamerthrax, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Well more in the Japanese version than the American version, very uncut for it's time it still omitted much of the onscreen death.
A few examples I remember was were Sandor wearing the wrong color uniform piloting a fighter for a recon mission gets blown away. The next scene he pips about how close of a call it was.
Another was when Lysis brings his ship up underneath the Argo to attach a bomb and then you see the video of his approach get played in reverse to show his retreat.
And last is the funeral episode completely omitted.
ps: I using the US name to give context, I know the Japanese names. - Ellipsys, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Where the hell is Isao Sasaki's magnificently voiced theme? The instrumental version is what is playing during the Yamato's launch scene, but I hope the vocal one is included in the film.
- babyheadout, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1I once played the theme song to a high school teacher. He thought it sounded like a They Might Be Giants song. I could see why he thought so.
