- Ryuuken117, on 10/21/2009, -2/+24I didn't see Asterix as being a symbol of French superiority. Asterix and Obelix never had trouble befriending people on their way across pre-Christian Europe.
- blitzkriegpunk, on 10/21/2009, -2/+18I ***** LOVED THIS COMIC!!!
- patch6, on 10/21/2009, -1/+16rhubarbrhubarbrhubarb...
- EarlOfLade, on 10/21/2009, -1/+13Exactly!
One of my favorite Asterix & Obelix stories is when they bring tea to Britain, who prior had only been drinking hot water with sugar and lemon. Priceless story!
Or the even better one with Cleopatra!
(Asterix and Obelix lover since kid days) - Hu99, on 10/21/2009, -1/+11I grew up with Asterix and Obelix. Loved their books and the artwork was superior to any English comic book. I always wanted to get some of that magic potion that made the Gauls invincible, perhaps it was an allegorical symbol for French pride but at my tender age it went right over my head.
Vive l'Goscinny et Underzo (the writer and artist respectively) - warp25, on 10/21/2009, -0/+8Ah.. Asterix and Obelix. You can appreciate it both as a child and an adult. Jokes are timeless. So glad a new one is being released.
- ScaryUK, on 10/21/2009, -0/+6I was a big Asterix fan as a kid but then as I got old I realised the second meanings behind all the character names. One thing I've never understood is how the names worked so well in English even though that was the translated version. I assume the punny names are similar in French and all the other languages?
- protodon, on 10/21/2009, -1/+7I remember as child, I used to have an Asterix book in italian. None of my friends knew what it was when I talked about it.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/21/2009, -0/+6The details in the artwork is just boondoggling, you always discover new stuff you have never seen before.
And how can you not love Obelix? Esp when he is in love?

These Romans are crazy! - tryptonaut, on 10/21/2009, -2/+7*͜ * <( Je suis Asterix!)
- TwwIX, on 10/21/2009, -0/+5Ahh, good ol' Asterix and Obelix. The cartoon equivalent of Bud Spencer & Terence Hill.
My favorite childhood heroes. Lucky Luke too, of course. - PopcornDave, on 10/21/2009, -0/+5Which is odd given their fascination with the wild west and the Lucky Luke comic that was popular in France in the 60's and 70's too. Not sure if it's even still around or not though.
- haxninja, on 10/21/2009, -1/+5Asterix makes me remember the old times together with Spike and Suzy (for the dutch and belgian people: Suske en Wiske).
Great comics! - Hu99, on 10/21/2009, -1/+5The Belgians had their own comic book hero in Tintin.
- burzikak, on 10/21/2009, -0/+4and the Asterix theme park is pretty cool too.
- MeloniusThunk, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3I loved the names, but I agree they went over my head as a kid.
Cacophonix the bard
Unhygenix the fishmonger
Geriatrix the old man
etc... - asgardshill, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3I discovered Asterix and Obelix about 20 years ago, but had no idea they were intended to be Gallic cultural warriors. I thought they were just painstakingly-detailed and hilarious characters that nobody in the US had ever heard of before. Go figure.
(At least now I know how wrong it was of me to enjoy a copy of Asterix and the Secret Weapon while scarfing a Big Mac...) - anixmander, on 10/21/2009, -0/+2Damn, hard to believe they are that old! I think my only gripe about them has been the pricetag, I never seem to have enough cash to buy all the ones I am missing!
Personally, I think they are easily the best drawn series created, bar none. And the stories never fail to draw a laugh.
Time to go break my copies out and re-read them! - JiGMeister, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2* same!
- acdcfanbill, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2I think they are actually working on a Lucky Luke live action movie right now.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Yeah, you can ride Obelix's goatse.

All i get is a ad - SifuMoKung, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1I grew up in Italy as a young lad and was very disappointed to not find anything that smart for me when I came to America. Even in school, everyone seemed a year or two behind in what they were studying. I felt like I came to a dumber country. Years later ... The United States elected G.W. Bush.
Seriously, we need to elevate the quality of what kids read before they elect the Geico gecko to office. - sonnybobiche, on 10/21/2009, -2/+3It's the first time a Frenchman has conquered anything since the Norman invasion.
- molochi, on 10/21/2009, -1/+2I always noticed Asterix stuff placed noticeably in comic book stores, sometimes even newsstands, but I've never met anyone that read it that I know of. It seemed like it was concerned with a Frankish/Gaulish sensibility... French inside jokes? Meh. Sounds like a niche market, like shrimping.
- jebus123, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Also, in Quebec, the play the old Asterix cartoons on TV around christmas every year (ciné cadeau). Astérix et Cléopatre is my favorite. I still watch them.
- rrwest, on 10/21/2009, -0/+1Was it true that at one time in the 1990s the Asterix park was more popular than Eurodisney?
On another note, I have been told that the puns are so well translated from the French that readers will get the jokes in many languages that the books are published in. - Mangeof, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Vooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuiii
- Meilhaus, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1HAPPY BIRTHDAY Asterix und Obelix
- vstg005, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Should Asterix retire? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8319196.stm
- kefutiwi, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1I love asterix and obelix
- duniyadnd, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1As long as it's not as painful as the last comic (with the aliens). The rest were awesome!
- PopcornDave, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1@acdcfanbill - why not? They've pretty much ***** on everything else from most people's childhood. And they'll probably cast Danny DeVito as the leader of the gang of 4 brother outlaws as well.
- itsdelightful, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1oh memories of being a kid!
they're huge in switzerland, and most of central europe for that matter. not so much in the states. - xfoo, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1Always fun to go back and read the books just to see how blatantly racist they are.
- darklights, on 10/21/2009, -3/+2Gauls = french
Romans = Anglicisation / Americanization.
Those french, they dont like the encroachment of UK / US culture over their own. Fair enough too, they have a lovely place, I'd hate it to see it ruined by the consumer culture like the UK has been. - anixmander, on 10/21/2009, -4/+2Hard to believe your spelling has actually gotten worse.
- LongLiveRock2, on 10/21/2009, -17/+1For a minute I thought it said "Anthrax at 50"
- syntaxgs, on 10/21/2009, -30/+4buryed,,, -,;; never haeard of tjhe comic name Asteris at fivty,, cant conker the world,,
