- kitsua, on 07/15/2009, -6/+519Capitalism got Huxley, Communism got Orwell.
Both came true. - mikbunn, on 07/15/2009, -3/+306It's a pretty biased comparison, considering that 1984 is represented by images from the book, whereas BNW is given real-world examples.
What kitsua said is true, but you could also show warrantless wiretapping, torture (waterboarding and basically everything else in Gitmo), the demonization of wide swaths of land and cultures ("Axis of Evil", the middle east in general,) going to war under false pretenses, disregard of the fourth amendment within 100 miles of shoreline, blatant support of political entities by the media through punditry, etc. in support of a 1984-style oppression in the USA.
It's really a combination of the two. - nolson8, on 07/14/2009, -8/+308True and profound. But it wasn't Huxley who first predicted it; it was Nietzsche, with his description of the slow suicide of a nation of last-men suffocated by banal pleasures.
- gdo01, on 07/15/2009, -5/+251This has never been submitted before.

- theysayjump, on 07/15/2009, -7/+212C'mon MrBabyMan.
The fact that you uploaded it to Imageshack shows that you knew it was a dupe since you couldn't link to the original image:

http://www.recombinantrecords.net/docs/2009-05-Amu ... - DiggityDugged, on 07/15/2009, -5/+180Great comic, but I think this is worth saying:
It's 2009 and humans still can't be ecstatic about the simple fact that we're alive and, for the most part, can do whatever we want. The social constructs serve great purposes, and it's definitely worth partaking in plenty of them, but come on people. We're alive. We can think. We can act. We have won.
Yes, life has become incredibly complex, but it's still very very simple, and always will be: we're alive. Enjoy it. What other species on this planet can do what we can do? The list of things I can and do in a single day would probably be more than all of Digg's daily bandwith.
I get that we're hardwired to always want more, and philosophically we'll never be truly happy, but that doesn't mean you can't take even just 10 minutes every day to sit and relax and say "***** yeah! I'm alive. How ***** cool is that?!" You don't need a God for that, and you don't need a reason for it either. Just try to be aware of it a little more and always remember that no matter what happens, we've all already won.
Come on guys, group hug. Seriously. High fives all around for being one of the most fortunate living organisms in the universe. - popzero, on 07/15/2009, -5/+133Do I bemoan the decline and death of humanity by digging and commenting on this, or does digging and commenting on this contribute further to the decline and death of humanity? The Save Comment button beckons to me... EDIT: Alas!
- DetpackJump, on 07/15/2009, -5/+112Is this one of those threads where everyone tries to force at least one fancy word into their post? Oh, and facetious.
- IDroppedMyBeer, on 07/15/2009, -0/+101::Looks over to Most Dugg column to see "The smallest dog in the world?" :::
- Strongo, on 07/15/2009, -8/+88whatever, Harry Potter is out today WOOHOOO!!!!
- GunWraith, on 07/15/2009, -0/+75I find your comment shallow and pedantic.
- MWeather, on 07/15/2009, -1/+67I think it was Juvenal in Satire X around 200 BC
"Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses" - tamano, on 07/15/2009, -7/+70We live in hybrid of both. Fox Network has happy Huxley Channel and Orwell Channel. Hate Week and Prolefeed never stops, even finding way into our mobile devices. God help us all.....
Got to go, "American Idol" is on. - HowardRapp, on 07/15/2009, -2/+60Reading this makes me thirst for more soma.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/16/2009, -0/+56I am rich and in shape.
- azaraa09, on 07/15/2009, -3/+59Truth in action:
The only reason this made the front page is because it's a (COMIC). - wefarrell, on 07/15/2009, -2/+56I'd choose to live in a brave new world over 1984 any day.
- kaminariko, on 07/15/2009, -4/+55It's nice to see High School English AP students getting their hard work noticed. I wonder if he got an A.
- flossdaily, on 07/15/2009, -4/+52Can't digg it, because he's not giving Orwell the credit due. Our government and news organizations have absolutely adopted an Orwellian method of communicating with us.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -7/+53both have proven very insightful. Humanity is deeply flawed and our refusal to admit that will eventually destroy us.
- fjeirsou, on 07/15/2009, -0/+42Yes, I agree. Now please excuse me while I watch 80 different videos of dudes getting kicked in the nuts.
- anexanhume, on 07/15/2009, -2/+34Make it sliced bread, and you got me on board.
- BryanTravers, on 07/15/2009, -0/+30That's a very cromulant observation.
- TheBigBrother, on 07/15/2009, -1/+30Reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jETv3NURwLc
- Dougman82, on 07/15/2009, -1/+28Inaccurate. American Idol is not currently airing...
- OldManLever, on 07/15/2009, -6/+32Buried for typical MrBabyMan douchebaggery. Why is it so important for you to be on the front page?
- m0laria, on 07/16/2009, -2/+28We've always been submitting this.
- Xaevier, on 07/15/2009, -6/+32I think they were both just a bit too paranoid.
Now if you will excuse me I need to check on my facebook, twitter, lotto numbers and see what Fox News says I should be worrying about today. - Dodobutt222, on 07/16/2009, -0/+25Yea, why would we care if we were being "controlled" if we were having a great time?
- MooseOfReason, on 07/15/2009, -1/+26I wholeheartledly believe that.
- kitsua, on 07/15/2009, -1/+24I like this.
- tallguyg, on 07/15/2009, -1/+24irony has never been so funny.
- snagglefoof, on 07/15/2009, -1/+23I approve of this. I especially like your way of thinking about it - "we've already won"
- psiphre, on 07/15/2009, -2/+23your *****'s all retarded and you talk like a fag.
- addysonclark, on 07/15/2009, -0/+20DEBAUCHERY
- sildude, on 07/15/2009, -1/+20Never seen trolls like this before. My god! Are they evolving?
- AlwaysTurning, on 07/15/2009, -1/+20That's right in the U.S. we don't want any insightful thoughts until you have been fully trained how/what to think.
- rambomcfly, on 07/15/2009, -3/+22Humans are a resilient bunch. We are not doomed. Everyone relax.
- binnis, on 07/15/2009, -0/+17Nah I think it's more ostentatious.
- specialK16, on 07/15/2009, -3/+20Dumbledore dies!
- Pirate42, on 07/16/2009, -0/+17We've always been at war with mr.babyman.
- NJank, on 07/15/2009, -2/+19I like Krispy Kreme.
- acehorne, on 07/15/2009, -0/+16If only I had a nickel for everytime I read the phrase "Sounds depress in the ass to me"...
- MWeather, on 07/15/2009, -3/+18Yep, just sit back, stop worrying, eat some bread and go to the circuses.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -1/+15So I went to Diggs' frontpage and saw that I had "already" checked out the image that was submitted. Hmm.
- Hetman, on 07/15/2009, -2/+16I have read it. I disagree with the eugenics used in the book. I personally have no problem with people wanting to sit around and do drugs though. That is your choice. If you do not choose to better yoursefl that is your problem no one elses.
- addysonclark, on 07/15/2009, -0/+13Always will be.
- eyepennies, on 07/15/2009, -1/+14art.
- xxmjumpman23xx, on 07/15/2009, -0/+13Got to go, "America's Got Talent" is on.
