- alarion, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9Love him or hate him, he was extremely influential in comics in the late 80's/early 90's.

- Equinox2O12, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6John Buscema? The "Rembrandt" of Comics. He brought true to life anatomical correctness to comics. While Jack "King" Kirby was brilliant and dynamic, he could no draw the human form correctly and often hid it with dynamic ink work. (I was told this by Jim Shooter himself at a comic con.) John Buscema also illustrated "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way"... the No. 1 book on superhero drawing and a book that inspires millions to this very day. Although I have my own style I owe a lot to the old guard of comics especially Buscema & Chan of Savage Sword of Conan
- kingmanic, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6pg 2.
- gondee, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6ROB LIEFELD? Seriously? I think that list just invalidated itself.
- Eldorian, on 07/20/2009, -4/+9WHERE IS <INSERT ARTIST NAME HERE>!!!!!!??????
- itanshi, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5I agree with half of this maybe, but all Americans? I'm afraid CLAMP deserves some praise amongst others.
- mmurdock77, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Greg Land?
- ivanmarsh, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4No Frank Miller? Seriously? The guy that revived Daredevil and Batman? and made Wolverine a household name... and then went on to the mundane comics like Sin City and 300?
- JoeParanoid, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Greg Land? You've got to be kidding me. A list without Eduardo Rizzo is not worth contemplating.
- JoeHague, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4My personal favorite is Steve Dillon- He hasn't done much to change mainstream comics- but today's artist could and should take a lesson from him.
- SolitaireRose, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5He was busy playing Final Fantasy. Just like he has been most of his career.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3WHERE IS MY ***** COPY OF BATTLECHASERS! WHAT THE FLAMING ***** JOE MAD?
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3no jim steranko? oh, and greg land is a disgrace. Quesada should fire that hack douchebag.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I think it was John Bryne who once said of Rob Liefeld: "If Liefeld can make it as a professional artist, then I feel safe saying that literally ANYONE can."
- EnjoyFailure, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Greg Land traces porn.
- robinthehood, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4Good list, but where's Frank Miller? Of course, I'm sure everyone else will spout artists that deserver to be on this list.
Equinox2012 - with you 100% on John Buscema. - tamahome2, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Frank Miller is a serious omission.
I like Brian Hitch personally... - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Both Miller and Hitch are better artists than a good 50% of the guys on that list, but remember, it's not about the BEST artists, it's about the most influential artists. Liefeld is one of the worst "artists" (if that term can be used with him) in the history of comics, yet there's no way to deny how influential he was during the 90's.
- atm259, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3You're on track to getting your first dugg comment.
=P,,,,LOL - RobotKeaton, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I can't stand the guy.

That's supposed to be the same person. - skinturtle, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Where is everyone????
- zblackjack, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Of course King Kirby was exc, and hey remember the times, he was exciting but lets not forget about Jim Steranko who was unique and a hot artist! I am still waiting for Talon to come out.
- serials, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Rob Liefeld????
:-P - JeSTeRSeVeN, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Jim Gaffigan? Brian Regan?
Oh wait, different type of comic. - hellengineer, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3 Seriously David Gibbons?
- kitsua, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Letterer: Todd Klein.
- exspasticcomics, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2lol- where's R. Crumb?
- Bic823, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Best. Comment. Ever.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2The title of the article is "21 Artists who Changed Mainstream Comics", not "The 21 Best Artists". Buscema was undoubtedly one of the all-time Greats, but he in no way changed comics to the extent that Kirby did. Hell, I don't even LIKE Kirby- I despised the blunt-featured, square-fingered, yellow-skinned, angular style of his work. But the fact remains that Kirby pretty much defined what modern comics look like. Try looking at samples of Silver Age comics BEFORE Kirby re-invented the genre. Love him or hate him, Kirby did more than any other single artist to create the modern comic style.
For the record, the list in this article leaves off several of my personal favorites: Gil Kane, John and Sal Buscema, Brian Hitch, Jae Lee, Barry Windsor Smith, and a host of others. It also includes several guys that I absolutely hate, just as Rob Liefeld and George Tuska. Still, I understand why Liefeld is there, and Hitch isn't, even though Hitch is about ten billion times better than Liefeld ever dreamed of being. - digitalArtform, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Maybe David Letterman should take a cue from this list and start off his top 10 with the number one answer. Way to build suspense.
:/ - tnvwboy, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Am I the only one who enjoyed Art Adams?
http://www.artadamsart.com/ - ChromaVita, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Burried for lack of Steven Gimaccio. Worthless.
- Mujokan, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1I was thinking of UK and European comics, actually.
- Charlotte_Web, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1I would add John Byrne to the list... it was the combination of Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin who really shaped the New X-Men and made them so wildly popular. Byrne came on board almost a year and a half after the introduction of the new lineup.
- Mujokan, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2Interesting, though they should say "American comics" maybe. Good choices though.
- malex, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Over in Underground Comics. This list is about the mainstream.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Seriously, wtf were they thinking?
- ZenMojo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Um...where the ***** is the Cho!? Frank Cho is heads above almost all of this list but he's conveniently ignored?
Granted, he probably beats off to his own work an hour a day, but if you had hands that could make art like that you would spend most of your time doing only two things with them. - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1That's a shot out of nowhere at Brian Hitch. ;)
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Eh. Cho's obviously a technical master, he's a little too obsessed with asses. He feels about asses the way Liefeld feels about pouches: There can never be enough of them, and they're the focal point of every panel he draws. I suppose if he were drawing Vampirella, it'd be fine, but when he's drawing the Avengers, it tends to be a little distracting.
- crowbarred, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1where is Brian Bolland???? or any artist from 2000ad [pre 2000] and where is GILES?
- imkidred, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Buried. No John Byrne?!?!? No Frank Miller?!?! And Adam Hughes is a worthy mention.
- imkidred, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1I got my Levis.
