- achinda99, on 08/22/2008, -8/+487Ah, linksys, the savior of the unconnected!
And the feeling of disappointment when a linksys network is actually protected! - EmitStop, on 08/22/2008, -12/+390Nice title.
- DownloadThis, on 08/22/2008, -10/+322yep.
http://i35.tinypic.com/2woghnt.gif - jmas9, on 08/22/2008, -1/+183The girl above me keeps her wi-fi open. Saves me about $50 a month in internet bills! I don't abuse it downloading movies and stuff. I just use it to check e-mail, news, minor things like that. Theres times when her router needs to be cycled, so I do that for her. If I didnt do that, she would probably call Comcast for support or just leave it, so Im doing a service!
- rawheadrex, on 08/22/2008, -9/+179Yeah, and nothing pleases us more than seeing a plain ol' "LINKSYS" or "NETGEAR" in our list of available WiFi networks.
Also great to know are default passwords to those routers; you know, when you have to do a little tweaking here and there to optimize your internet experience ;-)
http://www.cirt.net/passwords - DivisibleByZero, on 08/22/2008, -4/+167On Monday, I'm going to post a really old XKCD comic to Digg really early just to see if everybody instinctively diggs that one up.
- Charlatan22, on 08/22/2008, -7/+134I'd like to dedicate this post to my neighbors, who since yesterday, when I moved into my new house, have left their Wi-Fi unencrypted and unintentionally available to me until I get mine set up this weekend. Without you, this post would not be possible.
- JlmAWP, on 08/22/2008, -5/+108I would send the neighbors a range extender as an anonymous gift.
- zdrawingmaster, on 08/22/2008, -10/+102just wait til they realize its the classhole's wireless
(Mootar) morons.
(Mootar) these people who live in my apartment complex are connected to my wireless
(Mootar) they must think they're super-cool hackers by breaking into my completely unsecure network
(Mootar) unfortunatly, the connection works both ways
(Mootar) long story short, they now have loads of horse porn on their computer
bash.org - LordPhilMil, on 08/22/2008, -1/+87Why didnt you connect to the belkin54g, it has much better strength and is unsecured?
- phantom_mullet, on 08/22/2008, -1/+87He must have been in a hurry. You know, if you wait too long after midnight, someone else might get the front page. Then you're basically committing Digg suicide.
- tsunami643, on 08/22/2008, -10/+952WIRE### networks are the bane of my existence.
- virtualonliner, on 08/22/2008, -12/+91"We need a special holiday to honor countless souls with unsecured network with name 'linksys'."
I second that. - Krissam, on 08/22/2008, -1/+78I keep my network open.
I see it as a service to people in need of wifi, ofc i'm monitoring it to some extent, but it is open nevertheless. - ChaseDCox, on 08/22/2008, -4/+74Just had a friend of a friend move in. The kid is 18 and is a recent transplant student from China. He does not speak any English other than "hello" and "ok", but he did find the one square foot of the apartment that we could hop on an unsecure wireless network. So even with the language, culture, age barrier, we have been able to come together over our mutual love of free internet.
Dugg because this one hit home. - Merendino, on 08/22/2008, -1/+71Uhm, you don't live in Johnson City do you? Because you just described EXACTLY what my downstairs neighbor did to me.
- zooto68, on 08/22/2008, -0/+58No doubt that will work surprisingly well.
- ed54, on 08/22/2008, -7/+61as i am typing this, i'm camping outside in a tent where i can get a good unsecure wifi connection from my neighbors named "netgear." we really need that holiday.
- endlessoul, on 08/22/2008, -3/+56Even better, submit this very same one.
It's a flawless plan. Just ask MrBabyMan. - JlmAWP, on 08/22/2008, -0/+51Pretty low signal....you should buy some Pringles. I hear the pizza flavored cans conduct the best.
- phantom_mullet, on 08/22/2008, -22/+72I gotta admit, I actually chuckled at this one. One of the few funny XKCDs in recent memory.
- Jeffler, on 08/22/2008, -0/+49He was probably connected to it before but he wanted to be hip to the digg crowd so changed connections for a few seconds
- tibbon, on 08/22/2008, -2/+50I'm kinda waiting for him to make one about Digg users refreshing XKCD nonstop to submit it first to Digg.
- d1sturbdapeace, on 08/22/2008, -1/+45Allotted bandwidth? Where the ***** do you live, 1996?
- epstephen, on 08/22/2008, -3/+45I don't know about you guys, but I'm a horrible hypocrite on this matter: I secure my own network, but love others' unsecured access when I need it.
- LordPhilMil, on 08/22/2008, -0/+40circa exactly don't go together.
its like saying
"oh my god, this was me about exactly..." or "around exactly" - ChstrCopperpot, on 08/22/2008, -0/+39It could be worth the risk to leave it open if you're a big software/media pirate. The RIAA has dropped cases because of individuals claiming their network was being used for downloading without their knowledge.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+39Do you know how much pain and frustration you've caused me?
- Merendino, on 08/22/2008, -18/+56***** all you XKCD haters, that was funny, because its true. Hence funny, because its so true.
- ani625, on 08/22/2008, -0/+37The pleasure of connecting to an unsecured stray network!
- Mr.Gone, on 08/22/2008, -6/+42I make sure to keep my wireless Linksys unsecured, then unplug it every 15 minutes to piss off all the people that are trying to piggy back hee hee.
- willbb123, on 08/22/2008, -2/+36stick people
- xtroutzx, on 08/22/2008, -0/+32whats fugazi.zip
- hypodermia, on 08/22/2008, -10/+42oh my god. this was me circa exactly one week ago.
i moved into my apartment this month and spent the next several days trying to crack the WEP on one of the networks around me. i finally got into one, only to have it disappear a week later. eventually i had to run upstairs and beg my neighbors to share theirs. which is what i'm using now.
good times. my neighbors are really nice people, and it feels great to have met them, have new friends, etc. - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -4/+36it just needs to say xkcd and everyone will know it's the latest one
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+32The question is, Why GIF over PNG?
PNGs are quite small. - megatj21, on 08/22/2008, -0/+26George W. Bush: Well let me ask you something, Kumar, do you like giving hand jobs?
Kumar Patel: No sir.
George W. Bush: Do you like gettin' hand jobs?
Kumar Patel: [smirking] Heh, yeah. - requiem3, on 08/22/2008, -0/+26If you have no doubt how is it surprising...
- bakagaigin, on 08/22/2008, -0/+26The only post-hardcore band that matters.
- BradOFarrell, on 08/22/2008, -12/+36Print it out jesus ***** christ.
- recalcitrantid, on 08/22/2008, -3/+27the way to second something is just to digg it, not to repost
- alperea, on 08/22/2008, -0/+22I leave mine open as well. I feel for people who don't have internet. I even named it "Free Internet". I monitor it, and of course changed the admin password, and ip address. By the way if you're afraid of them using bittorrent, you can regulate those protocols. Make sure to have DD-WRT firmware: http://www.dd-wrt.com.
- Naglifar, on 08/22/2008, -1/+22azn's are so powerful at internet
- TheKillDoctor, on 08/22/2008, -1/+22I leave mine open and name the ssid 'virus infected'.
- lukas88, on 08/22/2008, -1/+19Disappointment?
http://aircrack-ng.org/ - breezytrees, on 08/22/2008, -0/+18http://xkcd.com/207/
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -5/+23So true. Can't tell you how many times I tapped into my neighbours wifi until I finally got my own.
Coincidentally enough....it was a linksys.... :D - kb9vgr, on 08/22/2008, -0/+16i found a low signal on my porch and setup my Linksys as a repeater and wrapped it in a bag (raincoat) so my wife could use internet for 5 days till Comcast came
- BLOODSUCKER, on 08/22/2008, -1/+17Its a .gif, they only go to 256 colors :)
- virtualball, on 08/22/2008, -0/+16God bless you.
