- ahawks, on 10/10/2007, -8/+67Odd that he's upset about the taunting Ringtones option, and not the fact that EVERY SONG YOU HAVE is a ringtone. It's a digital audio file, on a device that plays digital audio files.
And they want to charge you $.99 extra for the right to play a *segment* of a song you already own, as a ringtone.
If you want to use a different segment, cough up another $.99.
(It may not be 99 cents, I really don't remember or care about that detail, it's still an outrageous concept) - turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29http://becomearobot.com/port/Picture%201.png problem
http://becomearobot.com/port/Picture%202.png problem solved. - mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21The point is that there's the big "RINGTONES" thing in the app when you're not able to get the phone that the ringtones go onto, not the cost of the ringtones.
Which kind of makes it like they're teasing you. - mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22The *point* is that I can't legitimately get the phone to put the ringtones on. So what good are they?
- nitroburn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Just import a iPhone and unlock it. I use it here in BC on Rogers. Canada won't be getting the iPhone until Rogers, or another carrier who enters the gsm market, lower the data prices in Canada and offer some sort of unlimited package. Too many people get $1000 Wireless bills for not knowing the rates and thinking it was ok to surf. I've already heard stories of people doing that with imported iPhones.
$100 for 200MB with $5/MB overage charges is insane.
500MB of usage would net you a bill of $1600 in Canada and what... $40 in the USA? I am desperately waiting for this to change and check at least 2 times a month to see if they are offering any special offers yet. FIDO offered unlimited and then Rogers bought them up and cut that off as fast as they could. Way to kill health competition. Not to say the meger didn't benifit fido users with extra coverage. - Conway, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11This was very funny. Only 29 diggs and on the homepage, but I'm laughing!
"Fix it Jobs! Fix it!" - n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12"You're all like 'Hey oooh, I'm apple' come and... JERK!"
- JerodSlay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8lol "If user.country=iphone.country, then show ringtones, otherwise don't taunt me!"
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Preferences>Show: Uncheck Ringtones... done!
- kriminalintent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I would respond but i feel weird talking to a puppet.
- FXPooky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Anything tech-related sucks in Canada.
There are just too many monopolies here. Rogers' prices are just part of the prolem... the only home internet provider that has decent (7MBits) speed here has fricking BANDWIDTH LIMITS. This mens I can't download more than 50GB per month, if I pay for the most advanced plan which is 65 frickin $ a month.
If american companies came here they would WIPE THE FLOOR with the competition... come on... please? - nitroburn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Apple has said NO to a CDMA version and Rogers is Canada's ONLY GSM Carrier So, Apples only choice, short of a new startup, is Rogers.
The talk (what i've read) was that Apple wanted users of the phone to not worry about those data charges and pretty much required carriers to give an affordable unlimited option.

- geoman2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5that went from amusing to funny to annoying to stupid to sorta funny again
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Disturbingly awesome?
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That's what canadians look like? I better ease up on maple syrup.
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I was aiming for 20.
- Schmidtopolis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3John Candy.... Nuff said.
- Luigi239, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Haha, funny video with a point. To add to that, why do I need a bunch of crap in iTunes about ringtones, when I don't even have an iPhone, nor plan on buying one?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3kids in the hall, dude.
- todcreative, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think everyone's missing the point about the 99 cent ringtones. Apple HAS to do it, legally. This is another case of the Music Industry forcing their case on Apple. In order for you to legally broadcast that snippit of music in any fashion you have to pay for the rights to. It's just how music licensing works. In fact, as a cover band, you cannot, legally, play other band's music live without paying royalties. It's not strictly enforced but bands have been known to get fined for it.
- staticdrifter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He's pissed because he can't even get pissed about that.
- xpose, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Thats weird. I have no problem sending full free mp3 ringtones to my phone using BitPim
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I hate Rogers. I mean wtf. I go to Google on my phone and it's 5 bucks just for that. I don't even want to get into searching for things with it.
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Testify!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Pretty funny.
Still, the ringtone situation sucks when you do have an iPhone too. You can't make ringtones from most songs on the store, you can't make them from your own music, and you can't make them from your own stuff (like your son laughing). - goffy59, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I know all you apple fan boys will go ballistic, but I really dont like Itunes. I dont like how it runs as a service in windows and I dont like how it looks. I think it looks ugly compared to windows media player or winamp. I know shocking right? I personally use winamp and the movie player in ubuntu. Itunes layout is annoying also. I've tried using it, but i had a crappy experience using it. And the Iphone sucks a dick. My phone has more features and does more then the Iphone. Its an LGx8600. I can import mp3's and i can splice them up and make my own ring tones out of any file. I use bitpim with it as well.
- slimdizzy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Amen brotha
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The key there was "legitimate." And the price of the data is, definitely, freakin' NUTS.
- thefinger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I feel that the price of ringtones is way too low. Up the price to $20 per... that could discourage the average user from implementing the damn things. I'm guessing /hoping that people who can make their own (not actually BUY them) are going to reconsider adding anymore ringtones to an already polluted atmosphere.
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's a rollercoaster of emotions.
- tomis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because apple is shoving everything except OSX into itunes. Hell they even ported a good chunk of the cocoa API to windows just for itunes and safari.
- amenon89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Let me get this straight: you're on Digg and you're telling somebody to get a life.
hmmmmmmmmmmm - slimdizzy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1its not the syrup its our weed that does it
- markwilcox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No. They do however have humour.
- sinembarg0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ha. When I read puppet in the description, I thought you were using it as an analog, such as the commonly used sheep, and this story was about a person getting mad about the price of ringtones on iTunes.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Frustrated lil idiot. Get a life.
- razmig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1a puppet at that.
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Red Dwarf is British.
- a0me, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Same in Japan, no ringtones option even in the latest iTunes version.
- CosmicJustice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1*****. I'm on my third phone that let's me use any sound file for a ring tone.
- Gella321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1just go to the states and buy one already. it's even cheaper now with the currency exchange rate.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3It likely will be Rogers, being the largest, but not the only, GSM carrier in Canada.
There's also Fido: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fido_Solutions
Yes, I know they're a subsidiary of Rogers...but they appear as a separate carrier from a consumer's perspective... - hamdevguru, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My iTunes is 7.4.1.2 and doesn't show ringtones and I'm in the UK.
- JzLosman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you have a PC - use iBrickr to put ringtones on your iPhone. No charge, no hassle. Pick a song and it puts it on the phone as a ringtone. Also, you can use iBrickr to install apps directly on the phone (only bother with installer.app because it can then download all the newest apps from the iphone without having to connect to your comp).
- mrhogg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That was my original title, but I figured more people would notice if I put the word "Apple" and "iTunes" in the title.
- janformanek, on 12/07/2008, -0/+1Spotify
Hey guys, listen to your fav songs on spotify. It's a new application that streams music of your choice down to your computer. With an invite it's free, without invite it costs about 14 usd per month for an "all the music you can take" account Go to:
https://www.spotify.com/en/
Can't wait for the 3G-version for my iPhone :-P - tc2004txst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If that was the title it would be just as wrong, since his complaints are about the availability in which to purchase the phone along with the taunting seen in iTunes.
- CornStarch, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Should be labeled "high voiced Canadian puppet bitches about over priced phone"
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1not sure why you're getting dugg down. Not on my (latest version) iTunes either -- i'm in australia.
Not even in the preferences. -
